Post preparation

1. After reviewing the radiograph to assess the condition of the endodontic treatment and the condition of the canal, we can begin
removal of the gutta percha. goal is to extend the post two-thirds of the way into the root, while leaving a minimum of 4 mm of gutta
percha in the apical third of the tooth.

2. We begin the process of removing the gutta percha using gates glidden (1-5) or the drills in the metal post kit (gray) or fiber post
kit (white).

3. He will either use the ENDO RING to measure his depth or use H-files (15-20), usually 1-3 sizes he will request so no need to
open all sizes, just prepare it to be sure.

4. As the reamer progresses into the canal he might suddenly ask to take radiograph to verify the reamer's position but if not, it will
either be build up with core or post impression, please be aware that he will never prepare a NON-RCT tooth, so make sure that
before the procedure starts, all the teeth in the treatment plan has already finished with endo.

Prefabricated Post Build up (fiber or metal)

1. After the coronal portion of the root reveals that the coronal gutta percha has been removed completely, he will ask you to bring
the fiber post (white box) or metal post (gray box). In the event that he will ask the metal post, then make sure to prepare the wire
cutter (please see instrument guide) with zinc phosphate cement ready to be mixed upon his request. However, prepare the
flowable & luxacore composite (shade blue for second premolar & all molars; A3 for anterior & first premolar) for fiber post.

2. The posts in the Endo Post System (white or gray) kit are color coded to match the drills, so he will use a post that matches the
color of the drill in his low hand piece. If the desire colored is not available then he will do trimming to the bigger post so make sure
to prepare the DAMAGE burs because he will use it. Note: there are different burs in the damage set, show him options before you
open, he usually asks thin tapered diamond size 12 but there are cases he will ask for damage carbide, so let him choose if you
can't decide what to give.

3. After choosing the post (either fiber or metal) he will proceed to cementation, make sure to prepare paper points before handing
him any cements. As I mentioned above (step 1) zinc phosphate is for prefabricated metal post while composite flow ( any shade)
for prefabricated fiber post. HE USES ONLY those 2 as cement for SPECIFIC post; don't interchange it or don’t try giving him other
cement aside from those 2 unless he asks for it.

3.1 for fiber post cementation, make sure to prepare etching gel (10-15 secs for condor, 10 secs for Bisco) and bonding (20 secs
for 3M and 30 secs for dentsply) LUXACORE 30-40secs (blue & A3) note: he always use 10 SECS curing time but make sure to
at least cure the luxacore 2 times or it will break when he start preparing the tooth. Remember these specific SETTING time so you
can answer him when he asks about it, he is very concerned about the setting time for cements so it is a must to know.

3.2 for metal post cementation, paper points first & he will immediately using small amount of zinc phosphate cement. Setting time
is 8-10 minutes. Then he will usually build it with amalgam (especially for molars or second premolar) and composite or core
composite (luxacore A3) if anterior. Note: same process of build up if he use core (step 3.1)

4. He always uses tapered size 16, 24 for preparation in the 6 anterior. And flame diamond size 34 in premolar & molars. And rare
cases of round diamond in the molars. Note: if he is doing preparation and he says give me round bur, ask round diamond doc?
Before trying to give him carbide. He may really ask for carbide if he accidentally remove a lot of tooth, and when he does ask
carbide, then be prepared to do restoration.

5. He will either do a temporary crown or do final impression (for crowns) so prepare any of it according to his instructions.

Post & Core Impression

• Using 3M Light body((5 mins for regular & 1:30 mins for Fast) he will lubricate canal and plastic “speedy post” (orange post)
extends to full depth of post space

• he will add “speedy post” inside the canal and put light body over it, then immediately put the 3M STD putty using specific
impression trays (anterior, quadrant or full arch) 5 mins for regular/orange & 1:30 mins for Fast/green or 3:30 mins for monophase

• make sure to write the request CORRECTLY(Metal, non-precious Butt 180 degrees or Zirconia)
