Engineering chemistry

Introduction
The Engineering Chemistry course for undergraduate students is designed to :

strengthen the fundamentals of chemistry and then build an interface of theoretical concepts

with their industrial/engineering applications.

This course highlights the role of chemistry in the field of engineering. The lucid
explanation of the topics will help students understand the fundamental concepts and apply
them to design engineering materials and solve problems related to them.

Course Objectives:

TO IMPART TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF MODERN CHEMISTRY.

TO LAY FOUNDATION FOR THE APPLICATION OF CHEMISTRY IN

ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY DISCIPLINES.

TO GIVE AN INSIGHT INTO ENGINEERING MATERIALS

TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF ANALYTICAL INSTRUMENTATION

FOR DIFFERENT CHEMICAL ANALYSIS.

Basic principles of various branches of chemistry.

Physical chemistry
Inorganic chemistry
Organic chemistry
Analytical chemistry
Surface chemistry
Fuels
Engineering materials
water treatment technology,
applications of polymers
corrosion and its control
 one very important application of chemistry to industrial engineering is in materials
science. this is an area of chemistry that seeks to develop new materials, with new
properties and improved characteristics. for example: if an process involves a sealant
of some sort, chemistry can work to make it stronger, more heat/water resistant, or
whatever property is needed most in its application. in materials science, chemists work
to make materials lighter, stronger, more durable as well as safer to the
consumer/environment.

To make an article

1)choice of material
2)designing it appropriately to meet the specific needs, and reduce corrosion etc
3)cost effective
4)environment friendly

A course in engineering chemistry covers almost all aspects

Conclude:
This syllabus can bridge the gap between application directed research serving the needs
of engineers and the more fundamental studies on new materials like nano-composites,
instrumentation and solar energy. In the long run, an effort should be taken to support
interdisciplinary links to biochemistry and life sciences.
