a. What is the transmission system and enlist the major parts of transmission system?
b. Write down the purpose of gear box.
c. Write down the firing order of four cylinders and six cylinders.
d. Enlist the type of clutches.
e. What is automatic transmission?
f. What is final drive?
g. What is function of universal joint in transmission system?
h. What is caster angle and camber angle.
i. What is torsion bar and tubeless tyre?
j. Why does a battery discharge?

2. What is need of a clutch in transmission system? Write down the requirement of good clutch. What is the need of
independent suspension system? How is it achieved in front wheel system?
3. Write down short notes on the following:
(i) Tractive effort (ii) Gradeability of a car (iii) Taxable horsepower of a vehicle.
Name various type of resistance encountered by a moving vehicle. How can these residences be minimised?
4. What do you meant by gear ratio? What is significance of low and high gear ratios? Explain the working of
sliding mesh gear box.
5. What are the basic requirements of an automobile clutch? How are these fulfilled in a diaphragm clutch?
6. Sketch and explain the construction and working of torque converter and freewheel.
7. Enlist the components and working of an overdrive and freewheel unit.
8. What is the need of using a differential assembly? Why is it essential to employ a final drive?
Describe the working of any one type of differential used in automobile.
9. Analyse the weight transfer of automobile when:
(i) Brakes applied on front wheels only (ii) brakes applied on rear wheels only (iii) brakes applied on the four
wheels.

10. (a) What is the function of generator regulator in case of electrical system of automobile? Describe with the help
of a neat sketch, the working of a three-unit regulator used in an automobile.
(b) Explain the working of bendix drive.
11. What is the difference between air injection and solid injection? Explain the working of common rail and
individual pump injection system with neat sketch. Discuss their relative merits and demerits.
12. (a) Write the names of various types of maintenance. Explain about preventive maintenance.
(b) Explain about breakdown maintenance.
