To whom it may concern,

Having known Frank since the beginning of his journey in the M. Ed. program, I have

seen his voice grow over the semesters. This is evident in his reflection, as he has internalized all

of the models, theories, and material from his courses into a construct of his own design,

incorporating what he has learned into a new way of understanding both higher education and

himself. As Frank discusses the most impactful lessons and experiences of this program in his

reflection, I can see from my own interactions with Frank where these teachings have

materialized through discussions in class and in course assignments. Having partnered with

Frank on a few group projects, I can attest to his developed and substantial grasp on assessment

methods, or his passion for social justice, or his goals of student success through advocacy and

use of newfound agency.

In his reflection, Frank has demonstrated a commitment to using the knowledge and

experience of this program not only in future endeavors, but in his current position at Loyola

University Chicago. His reflection is replete with examples where he mentions specific methods

of utilizing lessons learned from courses to change how he interacts with students on a daily

basis, or how he can utilize assessment to continually improve the office where he works, or how

he can be more effective in his position from both a personal and professional perspective. His

reflection not only looks back to his time in the program, but he also shares how this program

has changed his perception of his own childhood, and how this will influence his role as a father

to his son. It is clear from Frank’s reflection that this program has had a substantial impact in

how he perceives himself and his role as a student affairs professional, both now and

in the future.

Frank’s reflection narrates a story of development. Through his time in this program, he

has shown a profound commitment to social justice, an enhancement of communication skills,

finely-developed analytical inquiry, and a strong ability to research and conduct assessment.

Each of these items are development outcomes of the program, and I believe that Frank has met-

and exceeded- each of these as discussed in his reflection. The last program outcome- reflective

leadership- was not explicitly discussed in his reflection, but I believe that Frank has made it

clear throughout his statement that he intends to use his passion, his knowledge, and his drive to

be a leader, now and beyond as he graduates the program. I am convinced from his reflection

that he is destined to reflect great credit upon himself, the M. Ed. program, the School of

Education, and the highest ideals of Loyola University Chicago.

Sincerely,
