The Power of Corruption

Corruption within my Country of Belize

What does it means to be unreliable? Corruption is worse than prostitution. The latter

might endanger the morals of an individuals, the former invariably endangers the entire country.

(Gecko, 2018) The Corruption of our country can be define as a form of dishonest or unethical

conduct by a person entrusted with a position of authority, often to acquire their personal

satisfaction. (J.A, 2000) Belize consist of many corrupted such as thieves, destroying of places

and the affections of the country. For instance, Amandala reported that Grand corruption

destroying Belize is happening with the House of the Representative. (aranda, 2017) Therefore;

the corruption behavior would include three main points: fraud or swindling of money, use of

nepotism and dealing of private investors.

To start with, there are many reasons why corruption occurs in the country of Belize and

one major factor are our Ministers elected to represent the people. Corruption or better know as

wrongdoing, is among mission called fraud or swindle. To begin with, a report of Corozal Daily,

on Ambergris Caye, stated that the land department is performing a fraud or swindling of monies

with the lands given. (daily, 2013) According to the News Reporter, they have another word for

Land Department “hotbed” of corruption as it was stated by Hon. Prime Minister Dean Barrow.

(daily, 2013) I can presence to a situation with a family member, the land the person bought was

held official documentations but unfortunately was discovered that someone else had the same

land title. Officials of the land department were doing the fraud because the person hat made the

transaction of the title of the property was the same person claiming as the owner of the same lot

which was given to my family member. They just wanted to become rich by owning someone

else property. In addition, on the Corozal Daily news, it was said that Dean Barrow found out

that the village of Santa Familia were two person were holding the same title land even though

the land had been developed and cultivated by the rightful owner. (daily, 2013) As well Hon.

Gasper Vega has operated of Fraud landing. However, corruption has reached a peak that even

the people are standing for their rights. Clearly; as a result, Belize face many disappointments to

the country.

Therefore, corruption is a phenomenon which can occur in any form and in any country

in the world. The main characterize that occurs in Belize is called nepotism. In my opinion, I

think Belize goes through these situations because minister’s police officer, government workers,

and other cronies of ministers use their influence or leverage in order to become wealthier.

Significantly I can say that’s the reason nepotism exist in Belize. Firstly, ministers, police officer

along with others have a responsibility to make things better and keep people safe and the better

off the country. Therefore, when they become powerful and have a higher level of control, they

will master nepotism very well in order to be the master of their satisfaction. The importance of

their job wouldn’t matter because they become blind as the darkness in the night. For instance, in

breaking Belize News it was stated that a transparency international points to corruption and

nepotism (Staff, 2017) In the report was stated that in Belize, one of the Prime Minister son that

leads the National Telecommunication Company, whereby he was deported from the Untied

States in a connection with a shooting that occur in a club. (Staff, 2017) However, the Prime

Minister uses his power to cover his son mess in order his son doesn’t goes to jail and to make

people blind of the issue going on. As a fact, the influence of power and the greed of unethical

advancement can lead to corrupted people and trickle down to society until we have a country

filled with corruption and nepotism.

Moreover, political corruption such as leadership or un-leadership tends to perform an

economic crisis’s. The main focus that corruption in the politician occurs is by doing a thing

called Private investors. This how the politician operate their businesses in order for them to

become richer and leave the economics of the country into a catastrophe. In fact, there was an

article about Belize anti-corruption laws which stated by saying that Belize has an attorney

general that reports the financial system. The Reporter noted that the government’s financial

system doesn’t reflect a true and honestly fair position as how it should be. (Dapatment, 2016)

Whereby it was mention that the Auditor General expressed serious concerns how the

government bank statement wasn’t reconciled and that the budgets were spent in something else

without an approval of a National Assembly. (Dapatment, 2016) Clearly, this can show how the

politician demonstrates their ability of their job by investing the financial money of the country

into own personal packet.

In simple terms, no matter if the country is poor or prosperous, democratic or

authoritarian, big or small it will be avoid corruption. Corruption, being characterized as a

phenomenon of lacking disciplines, they would control the most important of their knowledge by

performing negotiable bribery, enforcement of strengthens, and legalizing of investments. I

believe that cronyism is nothing more than welfare for the rich and powerful, and should be

abolished. (koch, 2002) Moreover, fraud and bribery can take place in the private sector, often

can result a costly consequences, It is a societal cancer that ignites passion and anger, causing

deep harm in our country and plaguing our society.
