SERVER CONFIGURATION PROCESS

1. INSTALL WIDOWS SERVER


 Insert bootable USB
 Turn on PC
 Press indicated key to enter boot menu (Example: F12, F2, delete, and so on)
 Select a boot first drive, press enter
 Press any key to boot from USB
 There is a pop-up window indicating “Windows Set-up”,
 Click “next”
 Click “install now”
 On the pop-up window, “Windows Set-up” , select the operating system that you
want to install
 This time, choose “Windows Server 2008 Enterprise” , highlight
 Click “next”
 Click “I accept the license terms”
 click “next”
 Click “Custom: Install Windows Only (Advanced .. .)”
 The pop-up window will show the HDD partition
 Format by deleting the existing partition and create a new partition as the case may
be
 To create new partition,
 click the unallocated space, check the total space in (GB)
 Indicate the size of your preferred partition
 click apply
 on the pop-up window, click “ok”
 note that you have created a new partition. note that if there is still an
unallocated space, then create new until there is no remaining
unallocated space
 Click “next”
 now windows is installing...
 wait for the computer to finish
 computer restarts, wait...
 until there is a pop-up window , then click “begin Install”
 The user’s password was required to be changed before logging on for the first time.
 Enter your new password
 You are now logged on.
 Then you see a pop-up window “Initial Configuration Task”
 You may now eject your Windows Installer
2. Install Windows 7 or Windows 10

 The installation could be done simultaneously with the Windows server, as the case
my be
 Follow the process of installation (somewhat similar to Windows server)
3. INSTALL DRIVERS
 note that Drivers should be installed in both server PC and client PC
 Insert USB containing Driver Packs
 click the file that contains the driver
 start installing the drivers
 close
4. PERFORM WINDOWS SERVER INITIAL CONFIGURATION TASK
 After installation of drivers, perform Windows Server Configuration Task
A. Activate Windows (if it is not activated
 to activate, use Microsoft Toolkit
 open files of Microsoft Toolkit
 On the pop-up window, click the right most windows button
 On the next pop-up window, click the “activation” button
 Select Tool: AutoKMS
 Click the “EZ-Activator ” button
 Click “Activate”
 Close the Microsoft Toolkit
 Check on the Initial Configuration Task Window if Windows is now
activated
B. Set the Time Zone
 On the Initial Configuration Task Window, click “Set Time Zone”
 Click “Change Time Zone Button” to change it into “Taipei”
 click “ok”
 Set the time, you may click the calendar for date setting
 After setting up, click “ok”
 Click “ok”
C. Click Configure networking
 On the Initial Configuration Task Window, Click configure
networking
 On the pop-up window, right click the icon for Local Area
Connection
 Click properties
 Unclick the “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)”
 Highlight by clicking “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
 The the “Properties ” button below
 On the pop-up window, click “Use the following IP address” (In here
you provide IP address of your preference, Example: 192.168.15.1)
 Click subnet mask to show entries
 Click “ok”

 Close the “Local Area Connection Properties ” window


D. Provide computer name and domain
 On the initial Configuration Task Window, Click “Provide Computer
name and domain”
 On the pop-up window, click “Change”
 Change the entry in “Computer name: (Example: ServerPC)
 click “ok”
 There is a pop-up window indicating a computer restart
 click “ok”
 Click “restart now” to restart the computer
5. ADD ROLES (ADDS, DNS, FILE SERVICES, DHCP)
 To automatically install ADDS, DNS and FILE SERVICES, Go to Start
 type “dcpromo” on the search area
 There is a pop-up window for installation wizard
 Click “Advanced mode installation”
 Click ‘next’
 click ‘next’
 click “automatically........”
 click ‘next’
 click “Create a new domain in a new forest”
 click ‘next’
 In the portion “FQDN of the forest new domain: (type domain of your preference,
Example: cpsc.local)
 click ‘next’
 click ‘next’
 For the “Forest Functional Level” click arrow down to choose
 Choose by clicking “Windows Server 2008 R2”
 Click ‘next’
 click ‘next’
 On the pop-up window, click “yes”
 Click ‘next’
 You may now enter your preferred password.
Example: Enter password: Tsummer2018
Confirm password: Tsummer2018
 click ‘next’
 click ‘next’
 On the pop-up window, click “Reboot on Completion”
 Wait and then computer restarts
 Open” network and sharing center”
 To ensure that changes will be saved, go to start menu, type services, click it
open, configure the properties of SSDP Discovery and UPnP to automatic
 click “local area connection”

 Click properties (follow same process for networking)


 click “Change Advance Sharing Settings”
 Click ‘turn on’ to all required setting to possible users
 click “save changes”
 On the Initial Configuration window, click “add roles” to install DHCP
 On the pop-up window installation wizard, click ‘next’
 Select DHCP Server
 click ‘next’
 click ‘next’
 click ‘next’
 On the generated preferred DNs Server IPv4 address, click “validate”
 click ‘next’
 Add scopes by clicking the “add” button
 Scope name: (Any of your Preference) Example: tesda
 Starting IP Address: (Example: 192.168.15.2)
 Ending IP Address: (Example: 192.168.15.15)
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘next’
 click “Disable DHCPv6 stateless mode for this server”
 click ‘next’
 click ‘next’
 click ‘ok’

6. CREATE USER DOMAIN


 Go to Server Manager
 Click Roles
 Click ADDS
 Click Active Directory Users
 Click cpsc.local
 right click ‘cpsc.local’
 click 'new’
 click ‘organizational unit’
 On the pop-up window, create GPO, type cpsctesda
 click ‘ok’
 right click ‘cpsctesda’
 click ‘new’
 click ‘organizational unit’
 on the pop-up window, create GPO, type ‘computer’
 click ‘ok’
 right click again ‘cpsctesda’
 click ‘new’
 On the pop-up window Create GPO, type ‘users’

 Right click the newly created folder ‘user’


 click ‘new’
 click ‘users’
 On the pop-up window, type users’ first name, initials, last name & users’
log on name
 click ‘next’
 On the pop-up window, type your desired password for the user
 Then click options:
user must change password
user cannot change password
password never expires
account is disabled
 click ‘next’
 click ‘finished’
 Do the same process as the previous to create another user

7. LOG-IN CLIENT TO DOMAIN (Go to client’s PC)


 Configure network settings using the same process. Use IP Address different frm the
IP address of server
 Go to My Computer/This PC
 Right click ‘My Computer/This PC’
 Click ‘properties’
 On the pop-up window, click ‘change setting’ button
 click ‘change’
 Change computer name: (select a name of user.) Example: badette
 click ‘domain’
 type ‘cpsc.local’ (this is your predetermined domain name)
 click ‘ok’
 On the pop-up window, type:
user name: Administrator
Password: (assigned user password) Example: Tsummer2018
 click ‘ok’
 There is a pop-up window “welcome to cpsc.local domain”
 click ‘ok’
 another pop-up window indicating restart
 close other pop-up windows
 click ‘restart now’
 Login to user
 click ‘network and sharing center’
 to ensure that all changes are saved, go to start menu
 type ‘services’

 open ‘services’
 check the status of SSDP and UPnP
 Make sure to set them into automatic
 click ‘change advance sharing setting’
 Turn on the required settings for networking for the different network
profiles (just click the arrow downs on each profiles
 click ‘save changes’ button
 Go to ‘network and sharing center’.
 Use the same process in networking but make sure to change the IP address by
clicking ‘obtain’
 Go to start menu, type ‘cmd’ on the search bar
 type ”ipconfig /release” in the command prompt
 type again “ipconfig /renew”
8. CREATE FOLDER FOR REDIRECTION AND DRIVE MAP (back to server PC)
 Go to My Computer/This PC
 Click ‘Local Disk D’
 Create a new folder and name it “REDIRECTION”
 Create another new folder and name it “DRIVE MAP”
 Share folder “REDIRECTION”
 Right click REDIRECTION” folder
 click ‘properties’
 click ‘sharing’
 click ‘advanced sharing’
 click ‘share this folder’
 click ‘permissions’
 click ‘Add’
 Add ‘everyone’
 click ‘check name’
 click ‘ok’
 Under permission click ‘full control’ for everyone
 click ‘apply’
 click ‘ok’
 Click again ‘Add’
 Add ‘administrator’
 click ‘check name’
 click ‘ok’, click ‘ok’
 under permission click ‘full control” for administrator
 click ‘apply’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘share’
 click the arrow down
 click add

 click permission level, click ‘read/write


 click ‘share’
 click ‘done’
 close window
 Share DRIVE MAPPING folder
 Right click “DRIVE MAPPING” folder
 click ‘properties’
 click ‘sharing’
 click ‘advanced sharing’
 click ‘share this folder’
 click ‘permissions’
 click ‘Add’
 Add ‘everyone’
 click ‘check name’
 click ‘ok’
 Under permission click ‘full control’ for everyone
 click ‘apply’
 click ‘ok’
 Click again ‘Add’
 Add ‘administrator’
 click ‘check name’
 click ‘ok’, click ‘ok’
 under permission click ‘full control” for administrator
 click ‘apply’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘share’
 click the arrow down
 click add
 click permission level, click ‘read/write
 click ‘share’
 click ‘done’
 close window
NOTE: In case the drive map can’t be seen in client’s PC,
 go to My computer, type in the bar ‘IP Address of Server’ Example: 192.168.15.1
 Click the folder Drive Map
 Right click the folder Drive map
 click Map network drive
 Select any letter of your preference.

9. CREATE GROUP POLICY FOR REDIRECTION AND DRIVE MAP


USE GPUPDATE TO UPDATE REDIRECTION AND DRIVE MAP POLICY
 Go to Server Manager

 Click Features
 Click Group Management policy
 Click Forest: cpsc.local
 Click Domains
 Click cpsc.local
 To create policy for Redirection

 right click ‘cpsc.local’


 click ‘create GPO in this domain, type ‘Redirection’
 click ‘ok’
 right click ‘Redirection’
 click ‘edit’
 on the pop-up window Group policy Management Editor,
Click policies , under the User Configuration category
 Click Windows Settings
 Click Folder Redirection
 right click the folder ‘Desktop’
 click ‘properties’
 On the pop-up window, in Setting: click down arrow to select
 Select ‘Basic-Redirect everyone ‘s folder to the same location
 Under the Target folder location, enter root path
 to find root path, go to My computer
 click ‘local disk drive D’
 On the pop-up window, right click the folder REDIRECTION’
 click ‘properties’
 click ‘sharing’ menu on top
 highlight the network path, right click and select ‘copy’
 Go back to Desktop Properties pop-up window
 right click the box on Root Path, click ‘paste’
 click ‘apply’
 On the pop-up warning, click ‘yes’
 click ‘ok’
 Go back to Server Manager
 right click ‘Redirection’
 click ‘enforced’
 Go to start menu
 type ‘cmd’ on the search bar
 press enter
 on the command prompt, type gpupdate /force
 press enter
 type ‘y’
 press enter

 computer then log off


 Go and transfer to Client’s PC
 On the start menu, type ‘cmd’
 press enter
 On the command prompt, type ‘gpupdate /force’
 type ‘y’
 computer then log off

 To create policy for Drive Map


 right click ‘cpsc.local’
 click ‘create GPO in this domain, type ‘Drive Mapping’
 click ‘ok’
 right click ‘Drive Mapping’
 click ‘edit’
 on the pop-up window Group policy Management Editor,
Click Preferences, under the User Configuration category
 Click Windows Settings
 right click the folder ‘Drive Map’
 click ‘new’
 click ’mapped drive’
 On the pop-up window, in General menu,
Action: ______click down arrow to select
 Select ‘create...’
 Under location, enter root path
 to find root path, go to My computer
 click ‘local disk drive D’
 On the pop-up window, right click the folder ‘DRIVE MAPPING’
 click ‘properties’
 click ‘sharing’ menu on top
 highlight the network path, right click and select ‘copy’
 Go back to New Drive Properties pop-up window
 right click the box on Location, click ‘paste’
 under Drive Letter, click ‘use first available, starting at’
 click ‘use:_____’
 click arrow down,
 select any letter of your preference: Example: A
 click ‘show this drive’
 click ‘show all drives’
 click ‘apply’
 click ‘ok’
 Go back to Server Manager
 right click ‘Drive Mapping’ folder

 click ‘enforced’
 Go to start menu
 type ‘cmd’ on the search bar
 press enter
 on the command prompt, type gpupdate /force
 press enter
 type ‘y’
 press enter

 computer then log off


 Go and transfer to Client’s PC
 On the start menu, type ‘cmd’
 press enter
 On the command prompt, type ‘gpupdate /force’
 type ‘y’
 computer then log off

10. REMOTE SERVER/CLIENT


 To Remote Server
 Go to start menu
 type ‘oobe’ on search bar
 On the Initial Configuration Task Window, click ‘Enable Remote Desktop’
 On the pop-up window “System Properties’, click “Allow connections from
computers running any version of Remote desktop”
 On the pop-up window, click ‘ok’
 click ‘select users’
 On the pop-up window ‘ Remote Desktop Users’, click ‘Add’
 Type name:
“Enter the object name to select:”
 Type ‘administrator’
 click ‘check name’
 click ‘ok’
 Add another user : Example: badette
 click ‘check name’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘apply’
 click ‘ok’
 Go to start menu
 type remote desktop connection
 press enter to open
 On the pop-up window, click ‘show options’

 Enter the name of remote computer


Example: Computer : 192.168.15.2 (IP address of client)
User name: badette (client PC user name)
 click ‘Allow me to save credentials
 On the top menu, click ‘Experience’
 Click the arrow down to select connection
 Choose/select ‘LAN (10 Mbps or higher)’
 On the top menu, click ‘general’
 click ‘save as’

 click desktop folder


 Change filename to ‘Client Desktop’
 click ‘save’
 click connect’
 click ‘connect’
 To Remote Client
 Go to start My Computer
 right click
 click ‘properties’
 click ‘remote settings’
 Provide User name and password as required
 click ‘yes’
 click “Allow remote connections on their...........”
 click ‘select users’
 On the pop-up window ‘ Remote Desktop Users’, click ‘Add’
 Type name:
“Enter the object name to select:”
 Type ‘administrator’
 click ‘check name’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘Add’ to add another user : Example: badette
 click ‘check name’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘apply’
 click ‘ok’
 Go to start menu
 type remote desktop connection
 right click remote desktop connection
 click ‘run as administrator”
 press enter to open
 type user name & password as required
 On the pop-up window, click ‘show options’

 Enter the name of remote computer


Example: Computer : 192.168.15.1 (IP address of server)
User name: CPSC/Administrator (server user name)
 click ‘Allow me to save credentials’
 On the top menu, click ‘Experience’
 Click the arrow down to select connection
 Choose/select ‘LAN (10 Mbps or higher)’
 On the top menu, click ‘general’
 click ‘save as’
 click desktop folder

 Change filename to ‘Server Desktop’


 click ‘save’
 click connect’
 click ‘connect’
 provide administrator password
 click ‘ok’
 After Remote Server/Client,
 Go to local disk drive D
 open the folder REDIRECTION
 Open the folder named of the user in client PC
 open Desktop folder
 click ‘continue’
 Look for the word ‘security tap’ and click it
 click ‘continue’
 administrator
 click ‘apply’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘ok’
 click ‘ok’
 Go back to Desktop
 Create a new folder (name it as you prefer, note that this folder should be
seen iv the client’s desktop)

11. ADD ROLE (PRINT AND DOCUMENT SERVICES


 To add Role
 Go to Server Manager
 click ‘Add roles’
 on the pop-up window, click ‘next’
 Click ‘Print and Document Services’
 Click ‘next’
 click ‘next’

 click ‘next’
 click ‘install’
 click ‘close’
 Install a printer (Example: Epson L120 Series)
 Connect printer to PC
 Turn on printer
 insert printer installer
 open the installer
 double click the folder containing the printer installer
 Install printer by following the given process
 click ‘agree’

 click ‘ok’
 wait while the computer install the printer
 Share the Printer (Example: Epson L120 Series)
 Go to control panel
 Choose Hardware
 click ‘new devices and printers’
 right click the printer icon (Example: Epson L120 Series)
 click ‘Printer properties’
 click ‘sharing’ menu on top
 click share this printer
 click ‘apply’
 click ‘ok’
12. DEPLOY PRINTER
 To deploy printer, go to Server Manager
 Click Features
 Click Group Policy Management
 Click Forest cpsc.local
 Click Domains
 Click cpsc.local
 right click cpsc.local
 click ‘Create a GPO in this domain
 type ‘printer deployment’
 click ‘ok’
 right click ‘printer deployment’
 click ‘edit’
 on the pop-up window, click ‘Browse”
 on the top bar, Replace the word ‘network” with the IP address of the server
(Example: 192.168.15.1)
 click enter
 click printer icon
 click ‘select’

 on the pop-up window, click ‘add’


 click ‘ok’
 click ‘select’
 under user configuration,
 Click Policies
 Click Windows Settings
 right click ‘deploy printer’
 click ‘deploy printer’
 right click ‘printer deployment’
 click ‘enforced”
 Go to start menu
 type ‘cmd’ on search bar

 press enter
 on the command prompt, type gpupdate /force
 press enter
 Go and transfer to Client PC.
 Go to start menu
 type ‘cmd’ on the search bar
 right click and click ‘run as’ administrator’
 on the command prompt, type ‘gpupdate /force’
 press enter
 On the client’s PC, open notepad /word document
 type anything
 print it to test printing

13. NOW YOU’RE DONE.
