It is with great pleasure that I recommend Michael McCormick for employment at your institution. I
have known Michael for two years. Michael served as my assistant conductor for the Westminster
Community Chorus in 2017, and as my student teacher for the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Choral
program in 2018.
Michael is an exceptional teacher, singer, pianist, and administrator. He is highly knowledgeable about
his craft and is passionate about sharing that knowledge with students. Michael is highly motivated to find
success in this field, and has the skill set to make that vision a reality. I have seen Michael work in a
variety of situations. In the spring of 2017, I interviewed Michael for the assistant conductor position for
the Westminster Community Chorus, an adult choir of about 50 voices in residence at Westminster Choir
College. I was impressed with his sense of organization, his musicianship, and intelligence. Michael was
an absolute delight to work with. The choir clearly enjoyed his rehearsal technique, his wit, and his
manner of teaching about the voice. After the season concluded, Michael asked if I would be his
cooperating teacher for his student teaching experience, and I eagerly consented, knowing that he would
make a tremendous impact on my students. At Bridgewater-Raritan High School, Michael consistently
demonstrated a level of mastery that someone would expect from a teacher with years of experience. Mr.
McCormick demonstrated that he can engage a group of students in a rehearsal, can differentiate his
instruction to meet a variety of learning needs, and can inspire young people with his thoughts about
music. Michael also developed a warm and professional rapport with the students of the BRHS Choir
program which contributed to an environment of mutual respect during rehearsals.
Michael has wonderful piano skills and can accompany his choirs with artistry. He is a wonderful singer,
and will be a wonderful vocal model for his students. Michael has understanding of current educational
practices and philosophies, and can easily align his lessons with that of his school district.
Michael has made such a valuable contribution to our district that I attempted to create an additional
position in the choral program so we could keep him on board. With cuts made to our budget, this became
an impossibility. I share this with you in hopes of communicating how much I value Michael
McCormick. Please accept my highest possible recommendation. Should you like to further discuss his
qualifications, do not hesitate to contact me.
