The lesson aims to help students identify possible distractions during the listening section and improve their predicting skills using contextual clues. The teacher discusses common distractions like being misled by initial incorrect information from speakers.

Students may get distracted by things unrelated to the audio like noises in the testing room or their own thoughts. The content could mention irrelevant details that take their focus away. Their attention could wander to things mentioned earlier in the passage.

The teacher says speakers often intentionally provide wrong information at first, then correct themselves to provide the right answer. This is meant to misdirect students who rely only on the initial information given.

It is a very common situation on IELTS
Listening when a speaker gives some wrong 1 mins
information, then corrects himself and gives
right information. This little trick is called
distraction. You can get distracted by the
information you hear the first time, thinking
that it is correct. And that’s where a lot of
IELTS candidates get caught! The speaker will
then correct what he/she said, and give new
information, which will be the right answer.

distractions and answer the question
individually using the worksheets.
