Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is there a way that you can hide other people's usernames in the game slither.io? Perhaps a
mod or a setting that can be changed.

Ans: No, there isn't a setting that allows you to hide other people's names in slither.io. Though you could
find a mod, I don't think there is actually a way to do it.

2. In Slither.io, whenever I run into another snake head on, I seem to lose the exchange and die
while my opponent lives on. It's most apparent when there is a fresh kill and we're both racing
(boosting) from opposite ends of the former snake until we inevitably meet in the middle. I'm
sure this is just a bit of confirmation bias, but when two snakes run into each other head on,
how does the game determine which one survives and which one becomes snake food?

Ans: For the most part, head on collisions seem to be random. For many occurrences, the boosting
snake seems to have the advantage. The mechanics of deciding who wins in a head on collision have not
been fully figured out yet, but the mass definitely had nothing to do with it. When you are boosting the
game predicts where you will be next, so you could be going a different way but you still die when they
did not run in front of you. This is one of the flaws of the game, so if you are boosting the game will
assume when you’re in contact, you've already past them, so they will be killed. If you are both
boosting, it would end out the same as if neither of you are boosting, resulting it as random.

3. Slither.io belongs to my favourite browser games, even though I'm not a very good player of it. I
tend to get eaten just when I get more mass and it's getting annoying for me, getting after 1/2
hours getting killed with 5000+ mass.
What's a good strategy to gain mass fast and then surviving for some time while big? That is,
getting mass fast and not getting orbizized (killed)? All answers will be apreciated.

Ans: Slither.io is largely a game based on risk and reward. You constantly ask yourself: what is the risk if I
do this and what is the potential reward I get?

A few general rules:

Look at the minimap in the bottom right corner. You see your current position, and the general position
of all other snakes. Most snakes are in the middle. There is more to gain there, especially for a smaller
snake, but it might get crowded.

Remember that blocking a larger snake while being small has a much larger reward than trying to kill a
smaller snake while being large. Unless you are confident that you can circle a snake, or a couple of
snakes, and get a decent amount of mass out if it, don't take the risk.
Remember that as the larger snake, you have trouble turning. You can cross over yourself, so if you get
surrounded, just claim a large-ish amount of space and stay in that place for a bit. Always turn towards
your snake if in doubt what to do, as you are more likely to survive that.

As a larger snake, don't speed much to collect bubbles. Of course, using speed you can collect more of
them, collecting more mass, but as a larger snake you are less agile. You are more likely to end up dieing
by bumping into a snake that came speeding from the other side. When going a normal pace you have
all the time in the world to turn.

Remember that the easiest way to kill other snakes is by surprising them. If a strategy didn't work out,
don't try that strategy again on that snake. It won't work, and people will quickly adapt and kill you
instead as they figure out what your next move will be.

If smaller snakes bother you, don't feel discouraged to boost for a short period to get clear of those
smaller snakes. Keep smaller snakes at least 2 of their lengths behind the head of your snake. If smaller
snakes are persistent, remember that you can always block their path by going very close to an other
snake, then going in a direction that is now blocked off.

When surrounding other snakes, keep a large area occupied. You kill an other snake by making a few
turns, then let the edges of your snake creep inward. If you circle around a lot on a small area, even
much smaller snakes than you can surround you, causing all kinds of problems for you. If you see that an
other snake might be trying to surround you, abandon your prey. It is not worth the risk.

4. In slither.io, there are these little moving balls that glow. If you eat them, you grow more than
just eating a regular food pellet. One thing about them that's kinda weird, is that if you move
toward them they will dodge you.

For reference, here are some screenshots of them.

The purple on here:

What are these things? Are the controlled by other players? Do they have a name?
What are some strategies for them?
Ans: They give more mass than other bits of food, which is why they are harder to catch.

Fun fact: Dashing causes the glowing food to magnetize to you if you get close enough.

5. I've been playing slither.io lately and I've been wondering if my size matters. I can't see the
impact of size in the game, except the leaderboards.

Does size of my snake matter?

Ans: Length is beneficial, girth is a hindrance. They both scale together though.

Length allows you to encircle and kill smaller snakes by forcing them into a small space they cannot
escape from.

Girth reduces your 'turning circle'. Although you can turn just as quickly as other snakes, your freedom
of movement is restricted - a common way for larger snakes to die is if they have two snakes either side
of their head, leaving them no way to turn out of danger.

If you want to stay safe in the late-game (20k+ in size), the only way to reliably do so is to move in a
large circle, following your own tail, so you always have one side of you clear to turn into if someone
tries to attack you. Your rate of growth is relatively slow, you can only eat what you happen to go past in
your big circular route, and you can't stray out too far from your own path without getting into danger,
but if you are conservative in your risk-taking you can grow to essentially any size if you're careful with
this strategy.

6. I don't have any hard evidence of this, but I feel sometimes I grow in different ways, sometimes
getting fatter faster, whilst sometimes growing longer and thinner. Is there anything that affects
this (e.g., eating large orbs/shiny orbs vs normal orbs), or does all food make me grow in the
same way?

Ans: The food will, in the end, make you the same width, no matter which orb type you eat. However,
you do gain more points eating the larger orbs than eating the smaller orbs.

The smallest, most basic orbs each give you one point.

Medium-sized orbs each supply the snake with two points. (these are the default medium-sized orbs
that come from the field, not another player)

The largest default orbs will give you 3 points

Finally, user-generated orbs vary in points due to the size of the snake.comes from trial and error (to
figure out how much each orb was worth)

Introduction

Slither.io is a popular game that upgrades the snake game that many of us
played on calculators, early phones and computers and turns it into an
online multiplayer version of the game like agar.io.
We’ve updated this with more Slither.io tips and tricks, new Slither.io skins
on iPhone, new in app purchases and important details about Slither.io
hacks and cheats.
You can download Slither.io for your iPhone, iPad and Android to get in on
the fun. Gamers can also play slither.io on the web in a browser.
We’ll walk through the things you need to know about this popular
multiplayer snake app from usernames and where to download to tips and
tricks to grow and survive in Slither.io.

The Slither.io game is fun and you have a good chance even when you start
out as a small snake.

Slither.io is an online version of Snake. You play against other players online
in a shared room with orbs that you need to eat to grow.

You can play Slither.io on iPhone, iPad and Android devices for free. There
are ads in the game, but only between rounds. There is also an online
version for you browser or computer at Slither.io.
Slither.io is a game with many players, but it comes from humble beginnings
and it is still owned by a one man development team unlike many of the
top iPhone and Android apps. Steven Howse developed Slither.io and is on a
mission to keep the game running with more than 67 million daily players.

With the Slither.io app you can play against others in a more colorful and
free-flowing version of Snake.
How to Play Slither.io

The basic premise is to pilot your snake around the map and pick up glowing
orbs to grow. Tap on a spot on your screen to change direction, or slide your
finger around the screen. You cannot pause Slither.io unless you are playing
against AI.

Pick up as many orbs as you can without letting the head of your snake hit
another snake. If you hit another snake, you will die. You can cross over
your own snake without any problems.

If you take out another snake by having them hit you, you can collect
glowing orbs that help you grow faster.
You can double tap on the screen to speed boost. This is helpful for getting
in front of a slower snake to take them out. Using this will make you smaller.
You can follow a boosting snake to pick up the orbs they drop.

The goal is to grow and grow without hitting another snake. If you are the
top snake at the end of the day you can share a victory message.

Slither.io Usernames

You cannot reserve a Slither.io username to keep as your own forever. When
you start a game you will need to choose a name for your snake. After you
die someone else could start with that username and if you are in the same
world you may not be able to use it.

If you enter any profanity the game will remove it and replace it with a less
vulgar version. We didn’t test every word, but it is good at removing
common curses.
Slither.io for Kids

Slither.io is rated 4+ on iTunes and E for Everyone on Google Play. As we

mentioned the game removes many curse words from usernames. While you
play online against others there is no text or voice communication so there is
no real way to talk to the other players.

Slither.io Ads & In App Purchases

While playing Slither.io you will see ads. Most of these are for other mobile
games and all the ads we’ve seen so far are age appropriate for the rating.
The ads only appear in between the games. There are video ads that will
prompt you to install another game.

There are now in-app purchases in Slither.io that allow you to remove all
ads. This is a one-time purchase of $3.99. You can restore this purchase if
you need to on a new iPhone or iPad.

Slither.io Skins
You can now use Slither.io skins that change the color and look of
your snake. Originally only on a computer you can now access these in the
iPhone app.

On PC, you need to share on Facebook or Twitter from the main Slither.io
screen to unlock these. If you want to get the Slither.io skins without
actually sharing you can click to share and then cancel the share.

On iPhone or Android you choose your Slither.io skin from the main screen
with no need to share to unlock the feature.

There are a lot of skins you can cycle through including flags, patterns,
mascots from websites and much more.
Slither.io Cheats and Hacks

It’s easy to find websites offering Slither.io cheats that include god mode,
speed boosts and much more.

If you try to use these you will see messages like the Slither.io cheat is
hacking the system, but then, you’ll need to prove you are a human.

How will you do this you ask? All you need to do is sign up for some free
offers and give your information to a company that will spam you and call
you non stop. Given the fact that you cannot buy any powerups or virtual
currency and these tools claim they can hack the system with any name you
enter, it is unlikely that you will find one that works.

Don’t use any Slither.io hack or cheat that asks you to share your personal
information or sign up for any service.
Slither.io Tips & Tricks

If you are big enough you should circle around an opponent to kill them. if
you do this, cross over yourself and get the orbs before someone else does.

When you are in a tough spot, make a circle and keep your head inside the
circle as long as possible. This allows you to stay alive and may even score a
big takedown.

Use the boost wisely. You can boost in front of a big snake, but if you boost
in front of a small snake, you may end up boosting past it too fast. While
you are playing, look for opportunities to follow a big snake. When they get
a kill, swoop in and steal the orbs. If you time this right you can also score a
kill since they will likely be distracted by picking up the orbs themselves.
Slither.io Lag

If you are playing the game and run into Slither.io lag you may need to
change your Internet connection. This is a game that you play online, so
playing on your cellular connection may sometimes be problematic.

If you are on public WiFi it may also be a problem. Try a different connection
to see if that helps. When you use this game on a network with a lot of other
traffic it could also cause a slowdown.

You can now play Slither.io agains AI, which may help with some of the lag.
While there are a variety of reasons including your own connection, the
number of players online can impact your connection. The game’s creator
tells The Wall Street Journal that he is spending $15,000 a month to keep
the game online and he is working to add servers in areas that need it.
The Ultimate Guide to Slither.IO

Do you want to climb up the leaderboard? Or do you want to learn more

about tactics and strategy? Then this is the right place for you!

Does the following sound familiar? A new game is on the market and it
becomes very popular. Everybody wants to play it but nobody knows how it
really works. You spent a lot of time to understand the basic gameplay and
the game mechanic. When you finally understood it, you start slowly
developing a strategy. It takes a while until you get it and can play it
properly. This process occupies much time. And this is the reason why we
made this site. We want to save you the trouble and summarized our
experience here.

We collected in this guide the best tips and tricks for slither.io. Step by step
we slowly start with the basics, understandable for everyone (even if you
have never played it before) and then continue digging deeper and covering
more complicated topics.

If you are not an addicted slither.io gamer who spends 12 hours a day
playing it, you should start here. Let's start with the basics to help you
understand the basics and the technical terms. This means, we will talk
about boost, controls, lags and more.
WHAT IS SLITHER.IO?

slither.io is a new game released in March 2016. It can be described as a

mix of Agar.io and the old Snake. It takes the casuality and multiplayer from
agar.io and combines it with the fast gameplay of Snake. The result is just
amazing. A casual multiplayer game with a lot of action and a dynamic
gameplay.

This game can be played in the browser and is also available as an app
for iOS and Android.
BASIC GAMEPLAY

First you have to enter a name for your snake. This is the name other will
see when you move around and which will be in the leaderboard if you will
get long enough.

After you have entered a name for your snake you start as a small snake.
Other snakes around you are larger than you. But don't worry, all you have
to do first is to avoid other snakes and eat the glowing balls which are
placed all over the map. The larger the ball, the larger the amount you will
grow.

Be careful and don't crash into the other snakes. This will make you die and
you have to start again from beginning.

Your goal is to be the longest snake to reach the leaderboard. And you are
not the only one who wants to be the first.

You can activate the boost by double tapping the screen on the smartphone
and by clicking the left mouse button on the PC. Your boost makes you
slowly shorter, so use it wisely.
FIX LAGS

A lot of players complain about having lags. This lags could have various
reasons like a slow internet connection, problems with the server, too old
hardware, etc.. And it's not always possible to fix them. But give it a try.

Sometimes the servers are overloaded because of the amount of players.

You can't do anything against it. But in the most of cases there are other
reasons for lags.

One of the most reasons for lagging will be your own internet connection. It
is a very fast and dynamic game which requires a low ping and a stable
internet connection. The approach here is very easy: The less you run in the
background, the better.

If you experience lags, try the following steps:

Multiple tabs in Chromium

1. Close all programs which require an active internet connection. For

example instant messenger like Skype. Even if you don't use them,
just turn them off.
2. If you want to hear music, avoid online streaming like Spotify or
YouTube. It's better to have your music locally on the pc.
3. Close all other browsers and tabs, so the game is the only thing you
have open. Because a lot of websites make use of AJAX requests
(asynchron requests which are done in the background). And this
could also cause lags or instability in your connection.

If you followed these steps and it's still lagging, it's maybe not your internet
connection, but the PC itself. Let's look at this.

Maybe your hardware is getting old and your PC is not able to handle all the
fancy graphics of slither.io anymore. And this is not meant to be ironic.
Sure, it doesn't look as graphics-hungry as other pc-games nowadays, but
you should not forget the fact, that the browser is an additional layer
between the game. So it's very important to reduce the load on your
computer. And here you should have the same approach: less is better.

1. Switch the graphic quality to low. I think you tried it because it's kinda
like obvious, but anyway, switch it to low.
2. Close other programs which you don't need now. And with ALL I mean
ALL. Your messenger, your email client, your programs which are
running in the background, everything.
3. Try to use a different browser. Some people are getting a better
experience with less lagging only by switching the browser. Switch
between Firefox, Chrome and Safari (only on Mac!) and find out which
runs more fluent on your PC.
BOOST

The only action you can do in slither.io is boosting. On Android and iOS you
have to tap twice on the screen and keep holding to boost. On PC you can
either click the mouse button or use the space bar to do so. I prefer the
spacebar, so that you can put all your concentration into aiming while
boosting with the other hand on the spacebar.

Let's look at some basic tips for boosting.

BOOSTING MAKES YOU SHORTER

Too short to boost

Although you can boost a long time, you can't do it forever. Boosting will
make you slowly shorter. It isn't recommended to boost in the first 100
length-points if you don't have to.

While boosting your snake will also loose mass which other players can
collect. Therefore sometimes it's really useful to follow large snakes.
KILL AND BEING KILLED

It is obvious but since this is the tutorial I will mention it anyway. You should
almost always use the boost while you are trying to kill someone but it's
more important to foresee when someone is going to kill you. If someone is
following you all the time, or suddenly is making a circle around you (wrap-
around), warning bells should ring in your head. This is the moment where
you have to say goodbye to the snake, maybe it's your last chance.

COLLECTING MASS OF DEAD SNAKES

Some people are saying it isn't worth to use your boost for collecting the
mass of dead snakes because it's too dangerous due to other snakes coming
in front of you and using more boost than you collect. They're wrong! It will
give in the most cases bring a return. The only thing you have to consider is,
that in this moment while you are collecting the mass, there is always one
snake boost right in front of and at you!

But this isn't a problem. You just have to do one simple trick: Behave like
you're drunk and move in wavy lines! Other snakes will rush into you frontal
while you are moving sideways. Another positive side-effect is that you can
react fast to unclear situation and turn around.
OPTIMAL SETTINGS FOR SLITHERING

If you wonder how other snakes could see you faster than you them, or if
you have some issues with the game, your settings may be not correct.
Read this tutorial to find out the optimal settings for you.

PLAY ON PC

slither.io was available almost immediately on both - pc and smartphones.

To play on your smartphone or tablet while you are somewhere else and
don't have access to a PC is really cool and fun too. But playing on PC will
almost always be better because it will run more fluent and especially the
controls are easier there. Having to double-tap to boost is often a loss of
time in dangerous situations. And navigating with your finger is slower too
and has the disadvantage, that you are covering a part of the screen all the
time.

Play on PC when you have the possibility!

TRY A DIFFERENT BROWSER

Different browsers
If you noticed that your game is running like in slow motion, the reason
could be your browser. I tried different browser to find out which one is
better for a fluent game experience and I saw a really strange thing. One
browser did slow down the game. I don't talk about network-lags or fps-
drops but rather about playing like it was slow motion. My snake and other
were moving slower and all input was kind of delayed. Only in this one
browser.

It's not easy to detect if your game is slowed down when you are playing all
the time in the same browser. So just try using another one, of course with
the latest updates and find out which one is running the most fluent on your
pc.

DEACTIVATE OTHER MONITORS

Having multiple monitors is not a big deal, it is the opposite, very handy.
Especially if you are coding or writing a lot. But if you are playing a browser
game in which your mouse is the only controller and a fast reaction is a
must-have, things become difficult. I'm sure you were in the risky situation
when suddenly of nowhere another snake is coming at you trying to kill you.
The only thing you do is to over-react and throw your mouse cursor to the
other side of your table and then lose your cursor. While you were locating
your cursor, you crashed, cried a lot and realized, that your cursor was on
the other monitor.

So just turn off the second or even third monitor to have the best gaming
experience. This will save your life very often. In Windows you can press
"Windows Key + P" to switch between monitors or turn them off.

OPTIMAL WINDOW SIZE

Resizing window
The most computer monitors nowadays have a 16:9 resolution which is a
little bit counterproductive for slither.io. Playing with this resolution and
fullscreen browser will cut off your top and bottom sight, so you will see your
opponents much later than they you. They will be trying to dodge or to kill
you while you are not even seeing them. When I discovered that, I
wondered why didn't I think of that earlier. So one of the tips I want suggest
you in this tutorial is to set your browser window resolution to 1:1. Just
make your browser window squared and you should see your opponents
earlier. This will give you also an advantage to other players who are still
using 16:9.

LISTEN TO MUSIC

A lot of people claim that you shouldn't listen to music while playing because
it distracts you too much. On the one side this is true, you will be distracted
by the music itself and also by fast-forwarding or changing the volume. But
on the other side, music will help you to have a relaxed gameplay. I noticed
some people raging after a crash and making due to this a lot of mistakes
which lead to dying again and again and rage quitting as the final result.

If you are playing relaxed and don't over-react to crashing, the game will be
more fun and you will have more success. Take it easy and listen to music!
DIFFERENT MASS TYPES

When playing slither.io you have probably noticed, that not every mass-ball
looks the same. There are different types and colors. We will discuss them
and compare with each other.

COLOR

Depending on the skin of the snake which died, the color varies. The color
will match to the skin-color of the dead snake, so you can tell which snake is
gone now.

But the color is not as important as other characteristics of the mass, it's
just for the looks. Let's look on the other aspects.

SIZE

Mass of another player

The next aspect is the size of the mass. It is the most important one when
collecting mass, because it depends on the size, how much your length will
increase. And like you probably already noticed it's better to collect large
balls. The larger the ball the larger your length will increase.

In the most cases the mass of another dead snake will be larger than the
mass spread around the map. So go for it if you have the choice.

TYPE

The last aspect we will discuss here is the type of the mass-ball which you
can find in slither.io.

The first are the standard mass-balls which are spread everywhere on the
whole map. This is the most common mass but also the one which will
provide the less growth for you.

Floating mass
Another type is the mass which stays behind when another player crashed.
Every player, it doesn't matter how small he is, is leaving mass after his
death. And this type will give you the most points. The larger the snake the
larger are their balls... Here I mean mass-balls of course! But they are also
the most dangerous. Because when a snake bursts into a lot of colorful
mass, it means that this snake crashed into another snake. So there is
always someone who wants to collect this mass. And everyone who is close
to it will rush to get as much as possibe.

The last type is the floating mass or floating orb. They are floating on
random places on the map and will make you grow for about 100 mass
points. This means they're not as effective as the mass of another player but
still more effective than the standard type. But you should also be careful
here. Some snakes are wasting much more boost and length with rushing
behind the orbs than they will get back by collecting it. Because it feels like
the orbs are moving in the opposite direction when you activate the boost.
And another problem here is that you could easily crash into another player
while boosting behind the floating ball. You should think twice before you go
for them. And do it only when you're close to them.

Strategy
AVOID DANGEROUS PLACES

Spending time in dangerous places is a risky thing in slither.io. But the real
problem is, that the most people doesn't notice when the situation is
dangerous. Let's have a look which places are should be avoided.

EDGE OF THE MAP

Edge of the map

The first place is the edge of the map. Since the map is quite large, some
people have never seen it. But there is nothing special to see, on the
contrary you should avoid this place.

Having one side less to escape is a big disadvantage in this game. You could
easily get killed. Try to avoid it.

DEAD SNAKES

Dead snakes are very seductive - I mean, who doesn't want booty for free?
And this makes these places so dangerous. A lot of people are also using the
boost here to collect as much mass as possible and are rushing without even
looking. If you are on the opposite side rushing too - oh well, the chance is
50% to come out alive.

BETWEEN SNAKES

Being between two snakes

A lot of people like to sneak around large snakes to look how long they are
or just because they are feeling safe there. But this is wrong! Here we a
have a similar situation like on the edge of the map. You have one direction
less to escape a potential attack.
DO THE "WRAP-AROUND"

The "wrap-around" is a strategy in which you completely wrap around your

opponent to kill him. The differnce to other techniques is, that instead of
making your opponent crash into you by making sharp turns, you try a
different approach and wrap completely around his body.

ADVANTAGES

Let's have look at the advantages of this technique.

IT'S SAVE - AT LEAST FOR YOU

The most time you are moving on your own body and have a lower risk to
crash into the opponent. Sure, you could touch his body too if you are not
attentive for a second, but your opponent is struggle’s to not crash into your
snake and simultaneously keep the circle as large as possible.
ESCAPING IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE

It's all yours

Due to the large map of slither.io, you have no problem to move away from
an opponent. Just move in the other direction and say good bye. But
escaping from a wrap-around is almost impossible. The only opportunity for
your opponent is that you are not attentive and crash into him.

But if you have collected a little bit experience with this strategy, your
opponents only hope is that you get bored and start hunting for something
better.

THE BOOTY IS ALL YOURS

After your opponent is dead, you don't have to worry that someone will steal
your booty or even worse that you will crash into another snake while
collecting it. Here you can take your time and collect it.

Some people get triggered by seeing so much booty and will crash into you
at the attempt to steal it.

DISADVANTAGES

This technique doesn't have only advantages but also disadvantages.

THE "WRAP-AROUND-CEPTION"

While you are doing the wrap-around, you are moving over your own body.
This means, that you are using as less space as possible and you become an
easy target for other snakes - even for the smaller ones.

You also have the perfect shape, so this makes it even easier for them to
wrap around you. Killing two snakes at a single stroke is also very attractive
and they will think twice before moving away. And In this situations it
happens - the "wrap-around-caption".

IT'S TIME-INTENSIVE

Doing the wrap-around is in the most cases very time-intensive. You are
curving and curving around making the circle every round smaller and
smaller. It takes up a lot of time to kill someone with this method.

Some people do realize their hopelessness very fast while being catches and
kill themselves. But the majority is trying to live as long as possible.

Maybe it would be better to use this time to collect more mass.

YOU HAVE TO BE MINIMALISTIC

Be minimalistic!

In the most cases you simply can't kill another snake which has the same
length as you (except if they are squeezed). It's physically not possible and
also takes too long to wrap around a large snake. Everyone is moving, so no
one will stand still and wait until you are fully wrapped around him.

CONCLUSION
It's a very common tactic and not difficult to apply. But it doesn't fit in every
situation. It's up to you to understand where to use this strategy and where
to follow another approach.
NEVER GO STRAIGHT

A lot of people are doing the mistake of moving all the time straight in one
direction without having some "backup space" to turn around if there is a
dangerous situation. This backup space is very important - it will often save
your snake.

While you are a small snake, there is no problem with turning, but when you
get larger, dodging other snakes will become a lot harder and slower. Here
are a few tips to how you could optimize your curves and how to create
some backup space for dangerous situations.

RANDOM CURVY LINES

Doing a knot
Your snake should be permanent curvy, and with curvy I mean it should look
like you were continuous drinking the last few days. To have a better image
you could really just drink a lit... Wait, no! Don't drink! This will have to
much side-effects and is not really helpful in slither.io. What I really want to
say is, don't move in repetitive curves, but try to be a little bit random
instead and switch directions more often.

This will make it difficult for hater who tries at all cost to kill you. They will
also keep distance - nobody wants to mess with a drunk snake as well as it
will prevent you from crashing into both, baby-snakes and suicidal snakes.

TRAFFIC CIRCLES FOR THE WIN

Collecting mass while doing a circle

What you should also not forget when you're aiming on the leaderboard is
doing circles. I don't mean behaving like a donut by making one large circle
but doing directional changes like you're driving through multiple traffic
circles and forgot where you actually wanted to drive to. This backup space
will often help you escaping a situation where all your hater from slither.io
team up and try to kick you from your throne.

Here you should follow the same strategy like in the section above, try to be
random! Don't do circles of the same size, same angle or same direction. Be
more random! What you should be doing too is moving in circles when
nobody is nearby you due to the fact that it's always the same small snake
coming out of nowhere and interrupting your killing spree.

Consider that you mustn’t exaggerate with the circles since you become an
easy target for a wrap-around when you're getting to small.

COLLECTING MASS
Tasty mass

When you see one of the leadboard snakes ending up in a galaxy of tasty
mass, there is always this one question you will ask (nice rhyme, huh?):
Should I go for it, boost through the mass and end up like the snake you are
boosting through? Or should I move slowly and careful through the mass
enjoying it, but unfortunately not having collected enough mass to be really
enjoying it?

The answer is: Do both! Which both? Collecting few mass and end up
crashing? No! Rush through the mass and enjoy it! Combine the tips and
tricks you read above and follow this steps when a large amount of mass is
waiting for you:

Dodging while collecting mass

1. Immediately activate boost and move towards the direction of the

dead snake.
2. When arriving the mass, activate your boost.
3. Most important: Don't go straight! Drive along the mass in curvy lines.
4. When suddenly facing another opponent, this could happen:
o He will crash into you. Then you should follow step 1-4.
o He will dodge you. Then you should continue with step 5.
5. Turn around and collect the mass you did not manage to collect
because of doing the curvy lines.

All in all, you should do more curvy lines, drive in circles and try to be more
random! Never go straight!
MAIN REASON FOR CRASHING

What is the main reason for crashing in slither.io when you are very large?
It's not other snakes trying to kill you, it's not the lack of mobility of a large
snake. The reason is a whole lot easier - it's your own greed.

GREED KILLS YOU

My trail after dying

Maybe it's just me, but I noticed that when a large snake becomes a large
field of mass, it escalates quickly to a chain-reaction collision of multiple
snakes. Everyone wants a piece of the cake, uhh I mean snake. And this
leads to a clearing up of the leaderboard. Especially if one of the
leaderboard-snakes died. Due to their largeness they can be seen by a high
amount of snakes. Their greed kills them.

I don't know if I should call this a strategy, it's just too easy and too obvious
for being a strategy. I can't name it a tutorial, too. It's just a part of the
guide here. So I decided to just post it here and to add a little piece of
strategy at the bottom. Because this is one of the most important tips for
slither.io, even though it's so simple.

BEING GREEDY IS OK SOMETIMES

Greedy collecting mass

What? I just told you not to be greedy and now it's okay? Whats wrong with
me? Nothing - what I just want to say is that being greedy in some
situations is okay. It only depends upon some circumstances.

MASS YOU CAN COLLECT

You should decide fast if the amount of mass is worth the risk of crashing
yourself. If there crashed a one-inch-snake, you shouldn't rush to get the
mass here. Only if there is no one around and there are no other dangers
you should go for it. But if there is floating a large amount of mass you
should see that you collect as much as possible. But be careful, be not too
greedy and turn around if you see danger.

YOUR LENGTH

The main factor it depends on is your own length. If you are a small snake,
larger snakes will avoid a head-on-head situation with you because they
know you have nothing to lose. And that's right! You are small and if you
crash your snake you won't go and cry in corner, you would just start again.

But if you get larger and eventually reach the leaderboard you would cry like
a baby if it ends through a small worm. Not that I have a lot of experience
here. I mean I reached the leaderboard very often but I never cried like a
baby when losing. No. Never. Uhm...I just know someone who knows
someone who cried once. It's not me; it's just someone I met once... yep.
Okay, it doesn't matter.

What I wanted to say is, that it depends on your length if you should be
greedy or not. If you are small - you could afford it. If you are on the
leaderboard - just don't go for risky booty!

WRAP AROUND THE MASS

Now this is the strategy part. Instead of going greedy for as much mass as
possible you should go for secure mass. Don't follow the trail of the dead
snake because there are already 10 other people rushing at you. You should
either do the wrap-around or take the curvy-way here.

WRAP-AROUND

Doing a secure wrap-around

I did a whole article about the wrap-around here in the strategy category. It
is really helpful to know,. The strategy is to don't move along the mass-trail
but making a large circle around it. Your circle should be as large as
possible. Unfortunately you can wrap around a specified amount of mass and
you will miss a part of it but after you finished your circle you can collect it
slowly without any risk. Maybe you could even catch another snake in your
circle.

CURVY WAY

Doing it the curvy way means that you do move along the mass trail but in
curvy lines, so if someone is rushing at you he would rather die than you.
This way allows you to collect a larger amount of mass than the wrap-
around but it's also more risky. You should decide yourself which approach is
the best in the specific situation. Good luck and remember our tips!
SKINS

Skins are beside of the username the only way to customize your snake.
They are locked by default and must be unlocked first to be playable. But
unlocking them is very easy. The only thing you have to do is to click on one
of the share buttons on the bottom left. You don't even have to share them.
After clicking on the button you can make use of the back-button of your
browser to return to the game. And voila! They are unlocked.
MOD

WHAT IS A MOD?

This is a modification for a video game to make it behave different from its
original version. They are mostly allowed and wanted by the developers of
the game. They are legal. The game developer creates APIs for other
programmers so they can develop and distribute own modifications.

Don't confuse mods with cheats, bots or hacks.

ARE THERE MODS FOR SLITHER.IO?

No! There are currently no mods for this game. And I don't think there will
ever be because they are modifying game files on which a normal user will
have no access.

Please don't click on websites with titles like "mods, cheats, hacks, download
now!". They are ALL fakes!
CHEAT

WHAT IS A CHEAT?

This is nowadays a code which you can enter to gain advantages in a video
game. It's not a program which you can download; it should be already in
the game implemented. Although you gain some advantages, cheats are
official and legal because they were implemented by the programmers of the
game.

The most games don't allow them in the multiplayer only in single player.

Don't confuse cheats with hacks, mods or bots.

ARE THERE CHEATS FOR SLITHER.IO?

No! At this moment there are no cheats for this game. And I think they will
never exist for this game!

Don't trust suspicious sites claiming to have cheats for you. They are ALL
fakes!
HACK

WHAT ARE HACKS?

These are programs which modify a game to get an advantage there. They
are in the most cases illegal and not wanted by the game developers.

Don't confuse them with mods, cheats or bots.

ARE THERE HACKS FOR SLITHER.IO?

Yes, hacks for slither.io do exist. We think it's nice to be well up in this topic,
so that you know what type of hack the opponents are able to use.

ZOOM OUT

One of the popular one circulating in the web is the zoom out. It makes you
possible to see more of your environment, so it's easier to dodge other
snakes coming at you. But this is not as useful as you think, because the
game isn't always loading the full map with all the opponents and mass out
there. That would be a total waste of network and other resources.

It loads your environment to a predetermined limit and this limit is not much
larger than you can see without modifications. This means, even with a hack
you would never be able to see the full map or a much greater radius.

RANDOM TELEPORT

This enables you to teleport to a random place on the map. If you are in a
dangerous situation, you could press a button to get teleported to a random
place on the map. This makes you immune to wrap-arounds in which you
have enough time to teleport away or other dangerous situations.

Sure, this is maybe useful but imagines if everybody would use this. This
game would be as unplayable as once Counter Strike in its "hacker stage".

CUSTOM GRAPHICS
You don't like the default slither.io graphic? With a hack you could easily
change it. I think this is harmless in comparison to others since you have no
advantages. Having a custom graphic is maybe nice but the actual graphics
are in my opinion good enough - no need for it.

CUSTOM BACKGROUND

This is similar to the "Custom graphics". It lets you define a custom

background or just simply remove the old one. I don't know why this is
necessary but it exists.

CONNECT TO A SPECIFIC SERVER

It is a nice game to play but there is this one feature that I miss. In agar.io
it was the same. What if you want to play with your friends? You can't
connect easily to the same server. In agar.io we just refreshed the page till
we had the same leaderboard and then we played together.

Such a program exists. You can type the IP address of the server and
connect to it.

But I know why this feature must be hacked and is not part of the standard
version: This game is not meant for playing with your friends on the same
server. I remember days in agar.io where the whole leaderboard was filled
with one clan-tag. And this ruined the game. You just had no chance on such
servers and it was terribly to play.

I think it would be really unfair too if you connect to the same server with 10
pro's and just screw the game of the other 500 people playing there.

BE CAREFUL

We can't prevent you from hacking but we can suggest you to be careful.
There are a lot of fakes on the internet which promise you infinite length,
immortality or other fancy things. The most of them are fakes and viruses!
And some are even worse! Some of them force you to sign some dubious
contracts. And that's it - nothing else for you, but a contract with will cost
you money.

Just spend more time and learn how this game works, read our guide here
and don't use hacks!

An Aggressor’s Strategy to Slither.io

“Even a worm turns against the foot that crushes it.”

As it is not my intention to lure you into playing as much as it is to explain to

you my current strategy for getting to the top of the leaderboard—at least for
a moment, as every worm must turn to stardust in time—I’m going to gloss
over the mechanics of game itself and presume you already know the basics.
Sometimes I will call the characters worms and sometimes I will call them
snakes. Whatever!

Instead, I will try to describe my maneuvers relative to size+points, as the

tactics change as you grow.
0–100: Scavenging

Eat orbs. Avoid death. This is the only time where the point cost to using the
up arrow to boost is worth being mindful of, as it’s very easy to boost
yourself all the way back down to zero again.

What you’re aiming to do here is get enough length that you can 1) dash in
front of other worms if the opportunity presents itself, and 2) stockpile
enough extra length that you can burn it off for a quick escape if necessary.

Remember also a central tenant of Slither.io: no one is ever your friend. Get
used to curling out of the way of oncoming traffic, expecting that the little
worm that has been going perfectly straight for a few seconds will suddenly
lunge for your head, or for the lumbering giant to slowly encircle you until
you find yourself in a coil of doom.

My first move is typically to head towards the center of the map, ostensibly
where the most action is, until I cross paths with a worm large enough to
throw off some excess orbs. I tend to be in “scavenger mode” until at least
around 1,000 points, unless a particularly dumb snake gives me an easy,
isolated kill that I cannot resist. With a little bit of poking around, it’s not
hard to get up to around 1,000 points just by eating the leftovers of a larger
snake’s kill.

Actually, let me take a moment to expand on these basic guidelines:

 Trust no snake, especially if they have a cute name.

 Always eat what’s on your plate—better to get 500 points by curling
around a few errant orbs in safety than 5,000 points by rushing headlong
into a feeding frenzy.

 Boosting is scary but manageable, and essential to getting to the

Aggressor’s Strategy, so get comfortable with it as soon as possible.

 Snakes grow from the tail. Never travel across the anticipated end of a
snake’s path before it is truly non occupying the space, as it could be
feeding, which will mean the end you think you’re just going to sneak by
will actually stay in place for a few seconds longer.

 Keyboard controls are better than mouse.

 Commit to your turns. There is no time for second guessing in Slither.io.

 Always have an exit path. It’s better to retreat than to be caught with no
exit.

1,000–5,000

Around this length, I start to segue out of scavenging from the outside of
larger snakes into a hybrid hunting-scavening mode. What you’re looking for
are what I call “feeding frenzies,” which typically occur when a larger snake
explodes and all the smaller snakes dash into the orbs, colliding and fighting
and generally making a mess. By curling around the outside of these
frenzies, keeping a nice coiled space of your own body available for retreat
when possible, you can both slurp off the excess orbs from the outside of the
frenzy in relative safety, as well as swoop in once all the more aggressive
snakes have finished killing themselves.
As you approach a length of 5,000, you’ll have enough length to perform
what I consider to be the most important move of the game: the cross.

The cross is the most important pattern to be able to spot and execute in
Slither.io. Most people don’t do it at all; I confess it took me almost a week
to realize its utility.

Simply, when you see another snake explode, instead of rushing towards its
orbs, cut across its orb path as your first move. This does a couple of things:
1) it keeps the likelihood of colliding with other oncoming snakes to a
minimum, 2) it increases the chance that other snakes that are unwisely
careening down the orb path will collide with you, exploding them into more
tasty orbs, and 3) it usually sends you back into a more open space where, in
the brief second you have before making a curving return, will let you assess
whether you’re going to be able to coil around a clump of orbs safely or if the
more prudent move will be to let the other snakes duke it out.
Even if you can’t coil around a nice orb dinner after you perform the cross,
it’s usually possible to turn 180 degrees and travel back down your path,
giving you at least a few morsels on the way back down.

The main tension in Slither.io is whether or not to take the risk to get orbs.
The cross allows you to stake a claim on an area in the safest way possible,
which also gives you a chance for escape. It’s not guaranteed to be safe—but
it is the best tactic I have discovered.

I typically perform the cross by boosting across the path, then going back to
normal speed to assess the situation, then boosting or cruising as seems
best.

Typically performing one or two crosses—depending on the size of the orb

clouds—will take me well past 5,000 in thousand-orb jumps.

5,000–15,0000

Now the true hunting begins.

Once you have enough length, your turning radius will increase, making it
harder to dart in front of other worms. Fortunately, you are also big enough
now to have effectively unlimited boost, which will now become your main
weapon—second only to deviousness.

Smaller worms will now see you as a big score; many will trail after you like
remora, snapping at your head when they see a chance. Don’t give them that
chance. Coil in on yourself when you need to take a breather, leaving a
generous space inside for your own manuevers. (Think lasso, not spiral.)
As you grow to be around 10,000-points long, you can start slowly encircling
other snakes as they battle or feed. It is ridiculously evil, and so much fun.
They’ll see you as a big, gentle giant, and you’ll slowly turn and maneuver
away from their little squabbles, but what you’re actually doing is making a
long, lazy arc around the whole mess. I’ve encircled three or four snakes at
once, watched them duke it out internally, then giggled as the final snake
can’t resist slurping up all the remaining orbs, dooming himself as he makes
himself longer inside my coil.

At this point you should be big enough to approach the leaderboard; tenth
place is usually around 15,000 to 20,000. There’s no particular difference in
play style once you’re in the top ten. Your tempo should remain the same:
lazy, internally coiling moves punctuated by crazy bursts of speed to either
perform crosses or to spook smaller worms. Nothing is scarier than being
next to a 15,000+ snake that is boosting and boosting, and it tends to shake
off some of the smaller harriers.

Even at such a large size, you can and will find yourself surprised by being
inside a chaotic frenzy without warming. Curl back on yourself, find a path
out of the mess, and boost toward the edges until you feel ready to head
back into the scrum.

Using these tactics I can get over 5,000 almost every time I play within 1–2
minutes, regularly crest 10,000, and have touched the top of the leaderboard
at least once a day. Of course, I die a lot with only 100 points, too, because
of a bad turn or bad luck. The constant looming fear of death is what makes
Slither.io a great respite from life’s worries.
