The box chopper amplifier is used to drive inductive loads like servo valves according to an analog input signal. It generates a dither signal to control servo valves.

The box chopper amplifier has a power supply of 24V DC, an output current range of -300mA to +300mA that can be adjusted via potentiometers, and accepts various input signal types like voltage and current signals.

Box chopper amplifier

Description
The box chopper amplifier is a Pulse-Wide-Modulated (PWM) H-Bridge for to drive inductive loads in
according to a analogue input. A adjustment for servo valves with different rated current and different input
signals are available. With the high chopper frequency of 40 kHz it is specially useful for dynamic servo
valves. The dither signal, which is necessary for servo valves, is generated in the box and can be adjusted
with Potis. The box is in an electronic housing and can be mounting on DIN rails

Technical hints
connection cable
cable for input signal and for servo valve current could be a shielded cable and the end of the cable should be
grounded
rated valve current adjustment:
check with 10 volt input (rated input current in case of current type) the voltage drop on testpoints and adjust with
poti P3 (center clockwise = more current) adduction on test point output 5 Volt = 1000mA. Otherwise check the
current with a current meter in the line to the servo valve.
test point:
Test points are 2 mm jacks
valve direction:
The servo valve direction can be changed by changing the wire on pin 4 and pin 5
dither frequency and dither amplitude
The dither must be adjusted to the adjusment requirements for the servo valve or for the application.
adjustment range for frequency: 40 Hz up to 500 Hz
adjustment range for amplitide: 0 ... 10% of rated current
factory setting: 200Hz and 2,5 %
In most cases it is sufficient, to adapt only the amplitude at the use, the frequency could remain on the preset value.

Examples: test-signal for 200mA rated current with 2,.5% dither
