1.

GENERAL

1.1. The following specifications apply to all materials, equipment and labour necessary for the supply and
installation of an insulated aluminium cladding system.

1.2. Work Included

1.2.1. Design of the cladding system.

1.2.2. Prefinished aluminium cladding and liner sheets, insulation, sub-girts, closures, end channels, isolating tape,
corners and trim.

1.2.3. Connection hardware for attachment of cladding system to the building structure.

1.2.4. Sealants between cladding system components and between cladding system and adjoining construction;
sealants around penetrations in the cladding system including ducts and pipes.

1.2.5. Cutting for penetrations.

1.2.6. Aluminium flashings within cladding system and at penetrations, including piping, ducts and the like.

1.2.7. Drilling and tapping of structure as required for fastening of all work included in this Section.

1.2.8. Removal of grime and dirt from the panels as the material is erected.

1.3. Quality Assurance

1.3.1. The Contractor engaged in installation of the insulated aluminium cladding shall be approved by the cladding
manufacturer.

1.5. Submittals

1.5.1. Shop drawings of the insulated cladding system lay-out and construction details shall be submitted to owner
or his assigned representative for review before commencing fabrication. Show details of exterior cladding,
insulation, sub-girts, liner sheet, fastenings and fastener layouts; cladding joints and penetrations; flashings,
closures and sealants. Indicate gauges and thickness of all materials. Shop drawings shall be coordinated
with those of other trades to ensure correct interface details required to provide a watertight and weatherproof
installation.

1.5.2. Shop drawings shall bear the stamp of a Registered Professional Engineer registered in or licenced to
practice in the Province where the project is built.

1.5.3. Duplicate system colour samples of the exterior and liner sheets shall be submitted to the owner or his
assigned representative for final colour acceptance. Colour samples shall be at least 100 mm square each.

1.6. Delivery, Handling and Storage

1.6.1. Materials shall be delivered, handled and stored by methods approved by the manufacturer. Units shall be
stored at the Work Site on wood platforms raised above grade tilted sufficiently ensure no water remains on
the material, or stored in enclosures protected from the elements and corrosive materials.

1.6.2. Care shall be exercised in handling and placing the cladding panels to prevent damage likely to impair the
adequacy or appearance of the material in the finished structure.

1.7. Design Criteria

1.7.1. The cladding system shall be designed to provide a completely weatherproof covering of the applicable
interior spaces.

1.7.2. Structural design criteria shall conform to the National Building Code of Canada (latest edition) and the
Project Design Guidelines.

1.7.3. Wind pressure shall be assumed for a probability factor of being exceeded once in 30 years. For additional
modification factors see N.B.C. and the Project Design Guidelines.

1.7.4. The cladding system shall be designed and erected for expansion and contraction of component materials
without causing harmful buckling, failure of joint seals, undue stress on fasteners or other detrimental effects.

1.7.5. The cladding system fasteners and connections shall withstand positive and negative pressures resulting
from local wind loading as defined in the National Building Code and Climatic Information for Building Design
in Canada.

1.7.6. The cladding system must be designed to accommodate movement in the system and between the system
and the building structure, without permanent distortion, damage to infills, racking of joints, breakage of seals,
or water penetration.

1.7.7. Provide for positive drainage of condensation occurring within the wall to the exterior face of the wall in
accordance with "NRC Rain Screen Principles".

1.7.8. The cladding fabricator shall field check dimensions of structural steel and design the system to
accommodate the following erection tolerances:

1.7.8.1. Maximum variation from plane or location shown on approved shop drawings: 10 mm/10 m of length and up
to 20 mm/100 m.

1.7.8.2. Maximum offset from true alignment between two adjacent members abutting end to end, in line: 1 mm.

2. PRODUCTS

2.1. Materials

2.1.1. All aluminium cladding shall be fabricated from Aluminium Association Type AA 3102H14 alloy, plain mill
finish, or approved equal for cladding industrial buildings.

2.1.2. The field assembled, insulated, cladding system shall consist of:

2.1.2.1. Inner sheet shall be a V-rib liner with pre-caulk male/female joints, 0.8 mm (20 gauge) core thickness, or as
indicated on drawings.

2.1.2.2. Sub-girts, Z-bars type, shall be stainless steel Type 304, extruded aluminium or galvanized steel painted with
modified polyester or PVC plastisol. Obtain the Owner's or his representative's approval on the subgirt
selection before proceeding with the work.

2.1.2.3. Insulation shall be a semi-rigid glassfiber board, with a density of 17.6 kg/m , equal to "Fibreglas" AF110,
thickness as indicated on drawings, secured with fire resistant adhesive in a spot pattern.

2.1.2.4. Exterior sheet shall be ribbed profile 38 mm deep, 152 mm pitch and 0.8 mm (20 gauge) core thickness, or
as indicated on drawings.

2.1.2.5. Where concrete or concrete masonry is the inner surface, replace the inner sheet with a 6 mil polyethylene
sheet spot adhered with adhesive with joints lapped and sealed.

2.1.3. Exterior and liner panels shall be prefinished with thermosetting corrosion resistant polyester enamels, equal
to Alcan's Industrial Building Sheet Type 2, Super Alurite coating system for corrosive environments. Colour
as indicated on drawings.

2.1.4. Exposed sides of exterior and inner liner sheets shall be colour coated. Reverse sides shall be prime coated
with an epoxy modified polyester or as indicated on drawings.

2.1.5. Exposed edges of cladding, cut in the field, shall receive cladding manufacturer's recommended finish
coating to match colour of cladding.

2.1.6. Flashing and trims shall be fabricated from the same material and have the same finish as the cladding
sheets and shall have a minimum core thickness of 0.8 mm (20 gauge).

2.1.7. Fasteners and hidden clips shall be supplied in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation to meet
the load requirements specified and maintain a weather tight installation. Fasteners shall be as manufactured
by the Atlas Bolt and Screw Company or approved equal, as follows:

2.1.7.1. Structural fasteners shall be cadmium plated series 300 stainless steel #14, Type B self tapping screw with
stainless steel and bonded EPDM “Neo Bond" washer; complete with snap-on vinyl cap, colour to match
exterior of sheet.

2.1.7.2. Side lap and flashing fasteners shall be series 300 stainless steel, #14, Type AB screws with stainless steel
and bonded EPDM "Neo Bond" washer; complete with snap-on vinyl cap, colour to match exterior of sheet.

2.1.8. Closures shall be according to cladding manufacturer's standard; and they shall match the profile of the
formed sheet.

2.1.9. Joint sealant shall be non-staining, permanently elastic, one part acrylic polymer equal to "Mono" by Tremco
Manufacturing Co. Colour to match adjoining material.

2.1.10. Isolating tape shall be used to prevent contact between dissimilar materials. The tape shall be a
non-absorptive, self-adhesive, butyl or polysulphide tape, 1.5 mm thick and 50 mm wide.

2.1.11. Provide a thermal break between the subgirt and exterior sheet by applying insulating foam tape, 3 mm thick
and 25 mm wide 3M "Scotch Mount 4008" or equivalent.

3. EXECUTION

3.1. Examination

3.1.1. Previously executed work which may affect the work of this section shall be examined and dimensions
verified.

3.1.2. Any discovered discrepancies shall be reported to the Owner or his Assigned Representative so that
instructions may be given for the necessary remedial work.

3.2. Erection

3.2.1. Erection work shall be carried out by contractors having experience and acquired skills in this work, in
accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.

3.2.2. Before commencing work, the contractor shall verify that structural alignment and governing dimensions are
adequate for his work.

3.2.3. Sheets will be installed with corrugations vertical starting at either end of the wall and proceeding in horizontal
courses beginning with the lower course.

3.2.4. End and side laps shall be as per manufacturer's specifications for the intended design conditions. All end
laps to terminate over a girt.

3.2.5. Provision shall be made to accommodate longitudinal expansion and contraction of the wall system by means
of double sub-girt or other approved methods where long sheets are used.

3.2.6. The liner panel, sub-girt, and exterior panel shall be fastened as per manufacturer's specifications for the
intended design conditions. The following minimums apply: 3 screws per 600 mm of girt coverage for liner
panel and sub-girt assembly; exterior sheets fastened to the sub-girts at every valley at sheet terminations
and every second valley at intermediate locations.

3.2.7. Spacing for side lap and flashing fasteners shall be as per manufacturer's design specifications. The following
maximums shall not be exceeded: 450 mm for side lap fasteners and 300 mm for flashing fasteners except
at corners where it shall be 220 mm.

3.2.8. Fasteners shall be installed in true horizontal and vertical lines only; there shall be no staggered screw
patterns.

3.2.9. Openings shall be provided for pipes, mechanical and electrical ducts and as indicated on the drawings.
When field cutting is undertaken, care shall be exercised to ensure that cuttings do not remain on exposed
siding surfaces and exposed edges shall receive coating to match cladding.

3.2.10. Flashing, reinforcing and sealants for all wall openings shall be provided.

3.2.11. Closure strips shall be placed to prevent weather and insect penetration at exterior siding. Ensure continuity
of "pressure equalization" of rain screen principle.

3.2.12. Any minor abrasions at fasteners and lap joints shall be touched-up with matching paint.

3.2.13. Stained, damaged or defective material installed, shall be removed and replaced with undamaged material,
without cost to the owner.

3.2.14. Isolating tape shall be applied on each contact surface between dissimilar metals and between metals and
concrete, masonry or mortar.

3.2.15. Flashing shall be provided as required to make all metal cladding panels watertight.

3.3. Sealant Application

3.3.1. Application shall be done in accordance with joint preparation and sealant installation procedures of
manufacturer.

3.3.2. Sealant bead shall be continuous, 8 mm high x 15 mm wide, gun applied.

3.4. Clean-Up

3.4.1. Any marks on cladding panels shall be removed. Defects to the work of this section or to any other work
caused by the work of this section shall be repaired. Cladding shall be left clean and free of all grime and dirt
and excess sealant. Clippings and cuttings shall be removed.

3.4.2. At the completion of the work of this section, any excess material, debris and equipment associated with the
work of this section shall be removed from the work site.
