Paris, France on 21st December 2015.
• The state of Melaka has been accepted officially as

a member of ICLEI on 17th November 2014.
• The submission of these inventory reports will be

carried out in two phases:
– Phase 1 involves the Melaka State Inventory.
– Phase 2 involves the 4 Local Council.
• A Special Committee for the Melaka Carbon

Inventory was set up on 18th January 2014.
MELAKA WORLD SOLAR VALLEY
• Melaka World Solar Valley (MWSV)
situated in Rembia sets to be a sustainable
city and the catalyst for solar industry.
• Gazetted area of 7,248.43 hectares which
comprises of various solar development
sectors.
• Being gazette under national MPFN in
2012 by JBPD.
• Key projects are:
– AUO Sunpower Solar manufacturing
facility (completed)
– KMB 5MW Solar Farm (completed)
– RDIC Center (planning)
– Solar Mosque (planning)

NETWORK
• First charging station outside KL,

launched on 11 Oct 2013
• A network of 2 electric charging
stations around Melaka city at
Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh and
Hatten Square, Bandar Hilir.
• To establish Melaka as the centre
of the electric car connectivity
between KL and Singapore.
• Melaka river is becoming a
benchmark for river rehabilitation
and beautification projects in
Malaysia
• The effort taken by Melaka
Government to beautify the Melaka
river has not only managed to turn
the river as commodity for tourism
but also help mitigate flood issue.

embedded to local council regulatory.
• Focus on UBBL and Malaysia Energy
Efficiency standards ; MS1525
• To be install in Melaka by 1 January

• Voluntarily to whole Melaka until 2018

NEWTON UNGKU OMAR: PROJECT ON BIG DATA
• The project will be linked to support the

implementation of three national initiatives as
follow :
• National Smart Communities Program (by
MIGHT) through the 1st Demonstration
City in Melaka, Malaysia.
• National initiative on Big Data Analytics
(BDA) by MAMPU and MDEC.
• Online city indicator, MURNInets which is
currently operationalised by JPBD.
• The project will address open data policies

and capacity building gap of the Melaka city
authorities and introducing them to unlock the
value and impact of big data in selected
critical areas to improve city policies and
services to the communities, through
collaboration with industry.

2 + 1 MUNICIPAL WASTE COLLECTION SYSTEM
• Introduction of 2 + 1 Municipal
Waste collection system from
previous 3 times a week
• Introduced in Sept 2013 by
PPSPPA and SWM
• 2+1 System means the
organic and unrecyclable
waste collected twice a week.
Recyclable waste such as
plastic, paper , etc are
collected once a week.

NO PLASTIC BAG DAY PROGRAM
• Melaka has implemented No Plastic Day on

Saturday since 1 Jan 2011.
• Objectives:
– To promote bringing own bag from home
– To ensure the shopping complex no
supplying plastic bag during No Plastic Bag
Day alternatively to sell only non-plastic bag
wrapper
• Melaka will add additional day for No Plastic Day
Program as follows
– Friday & Saturday (1 April 2014)
– Friday, Satuday & Sunday (1 January 2015)
– Everyday (1 January 2016)
NO POLISTYREN USAGE FOR FOODS AND
DRINKS IN MELAKA
• Melaka has implemented no polystyrene usage

for foods and drinks in Melaka starting 15 May to
all government own cafeteria and premises
• In 1st September 2015 no polystyrene for foods
and drinks will be implemented for the whole
state of Melaka
• The objectives of this program are;
– 500 years to decompose
– Hot foods and liquids actually start a partial
breakdown of the Styrofoam, causing some toxins to
be absorbed into our bloodstream and tissue.
– Burning polystyrene on bonfires releases

• Melaka will imposing
immediate compounds of RM5
to RM10 on litter bugs to
preserve the cleanliness of the
state.
• The offenders has to pay
immediately when they get
caught by the authority,
• Local authorities in the state to
take the necessary steps to
implement the enforcement of
the compound.

THE WAY FORWARD
• Increase training and awareness programs of green

technology among members of the government and
citizen.
• We believe in indicators to measure the
performance of green.
• Support from inter-government agencies,
international, GLC’s, private investment companies
are needed to formulate and implement the green
initiatives plan in order to benefit Melaka and
Malaysia.
