Timing Belt Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the timing belt lower cover. Refer to Timing Belt Lower Cover Replacement .
2. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the notch in the crankshaft sprocket (2) aligns with the mark in the oil pump
housing (1).

3. Fix the camshaft pulley as shown (1) by installing a M6x1.25 bolt (2).
4. Fix the fuel pump drive pulley by installing a M6x1.25 bolt (1).
5. Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt (1).
6. Rotate the timing belt tensioner pulley (3) 90° anticlockwise (2). Use a hexagon socket (4).
7. Tighten the timing belt tensioner bolt.

8. Remove the timing belt (1).

Installation Procedure
1. The notch in the crankshaft sprocket (2) and the mark (1) in the oil pump housing must align.

Note: Examine that the camshaft sprocket and the fuel pump drive pulley are fixed by a M6x1.25 bolt (6) and
(7).
Install the timing belt in the following order
• crankshaft sprocket (5)
• oil pump gear (4)
• fuel pump drive sprocket (2)
• camshaft sprocket (1)

• timing belt tensioner pulley (3)


Note: Examine that the timing belt is pretensioned at the driving side.
2. Loosen the timing belt tensioner until the timing belt is tensioned.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .

3. Tighten the timing belt tensioner bolt to 49 N·m (36 lb ft) .


4. Remove the M6x1.25 bolts from camshaft sprocket and fuel pump drive sprocket.
5. Rotate the engine 720° clockwise and check the timing position.
6. The notch in the crankshaft pulley has to align with the mark in the oil pump housing.
7. Install the M6x1.25 bolt to the camshaft sprocket.

Note: If the M6x1.25 bolt can not be installed repeat the installation procedure!
8. Remove the M6x1.25 bolt from the camshaft sprocket.
9. Install the timing belt lower cover. Refer to Timing Belt Lower Cover Replacement .
