Resurrection-
Mosiah15: 20 But behold, the bands of death shall be broken, and the Son reigneth, and hath
power over the dead; therefore, he bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead.
Without the resurrection we can not obtain a perfect body. Through Christ the chains that
would hold us down are broken and we can live again in a perfect state.
Repentance-
Alma 42:13 Therefore, according to justice, the aplan of bredemption could not be brought
about, only on conditions of repentance of men in this probationary state, yea, this preparatory state;
for except it were for these conditions, mercy could not take effect except it should destroy the work of
justice. Now the work of justice could not be destroyed; if so, God would ccease to be God.
We must become perfect, without blemish, to return and live with our God in heaven but we
cannot do this without the atonement of Jesus Christ which in turns allows us to repent and become
clean.
Hope-
Ether 12:32 “Wherefore man must hope or he cannot receive an inheritance in the place which
thou has prepared.”
Hope is a level of faith that leads to action. Helamen had faith in the Lord during all the wars, which lead
to a hope of deliverance through Christ. Once he had this hope he took courage and it to lead to action.
Moroni 7:40-42
How can you have faith without hope? The most important thing to have hope in is the atonement of
Christ, in the power of the resurrection. Without faith though, there cannot be any hope. If you have no
hope in the plan or in Christ and his doctrine, then you will never progress. Hope is essential to action He
Faith –
The principle of faith is found all throughout the scriptures because it is at the center of the Atonement
of Jesus Christ. Faith is means by which we access the powers of heaven, and make ourselves available
to receive blessings. Every chapter in the Book of Mormon teaches the principle of faith.
Mormon 9:37; 3 Nephi 27:19- The Lord’s miracles are wrought by our faith. Faith is how miracles are
brought to pass.
Charity-
4 Nephi;5- There were great and marvelous works wrought by the disciples of Jesus, insomuch that they
did heal the sick, and raise the dead, and cause the lame to walk, and the blind to receive their sight,
and the deaf to hear; and all manners of miracles did they work among the children of men; and in
nothing did they work miracles save it were in the name of Jesus.
The Nephites and Lamanites were living in a time of peace during this scripture. Charity can
offer a way to share you happiness with others and build your testimony at the same time. Charity is a
powerful tool against Satan and can help up stay on the straight and narrow path. It can also bring peace
to our heart, and others too.
Grace
Grace is one of the most important doctrines in the Book of Mormon because of the imperfection of
man he could never be saved without grace. However, to attain this grace some work is required. We
must come unto Christ, we must love him as Moroni 10:32-33 counsels. Ether 12:26 promises that the
Lord’s grace is sufficient for all if they humble themselves before him. Nephi teaches that it is by grace
that we are saved after all we can do.
Because we are imperfect and will fal short the only way we will be able to return to live with
Heavenly Father and Christ again is by the divine and saving power of grace. Christ, through his
atonement makes up for what we lack.
Jusitce/Mercy
Justice is an attribute that God must possess or he would “cease to be God” (Alma 42:13), and all
mankind is fallen and in the grasp of justice and must rightfully be cast off. However, the entire point of
the Gospel is that as we have fallen, we may be redeemed, and as many as will. Thus mercy is needed to
come in between us and justice and there must be one to “satisfy the demands of justice” (Alma 42:15)
The Gospel is actually quite simple. It is not really about Relief Society and Potluck dinners and
BYU, or their rivalry with Utah. It is not about any of these things. It is that he that “findeth mercy and
endureth to the end the same shall be saved.” (Alma 32:13) That is the sum of it, and that is why there
had to be a savior and an infinite atonement which could satisfy the demands of justice and grant us
mercy. Everything else is just an appendage to these doctrines. Justice, Mercy and the Atonement.
(Alma 36:18)
Obedience
In Alma 57:21 the strippling warriors were the perfect example of obedience “they did obey and observe
to perform every word of command with exactness. ”they obeyed the words of God and their mothers
to perfection and so they were saved from the Lamanite armies. In Alma 58:39-40 it states that “even
one soul has not been slain…nevertheless they stand fast in liberty wherewith God has made them free”
This was in the “Book of Mormon” as an example for us so that we can see what happens when we are
obedient to the word of God. If we obey his teachings we will be saved like the 2,000 strippling
warriors.
