TDCL’s Lenten Retreat 2019 in Tarlac, a success

Over a thousand members of lay organizations in Tarlac City flocked at the Kanlahi Hall of the
Diwa ng Tarlac on March 23, 2019 for the Lenten Recollection organized by the Tarlac Diocesan
Council of the Laity (TDCL) in coordination with the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas and the
Diocese of Tarlac.

The recollection speaker came all the way from the Diocese of Kalookan. The knowledge,
expertise, insights and charisma of the Most Rev. Pablo Virgilio “Ambo” S. David enlightened
and inspired many Catholic faithful over the years. Bishop David did philosophy studies at the
Ateneo de Manila University, theology course at the Loyola School of Theology, Licentiate and
Doctorate in Sacred Theology at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.

The retreat proper was held after the general assembly of TDCL and the concelebration of the
Holy Mass at 8:00 in the morning. Bishop David presided the solemn Eucharistic celebration
with the Bishop of the Diocese of Tarlac, Most Rev. Enrique V. Macaraeg, and other diocesan
priests.

The aim of the recollection was to strengthen and encourage lay participation in the evangelical
and ecclesial apostolate. Its theme “Essential Role of the Laity within the Diversity of Ministries
but Oneness in Mission towards Social Transformation” is timely since the laity is in the
frontline of reminding men and women of diverse cultures and backgrounds about the Word of
God while faced with various moral issues today.

Bishop David, recipient of the Ka Pepe Diokno Award, admitted to be a victim of unjust and
violent threats just because he showed concern to pressing national dilemmas. Yet, this does not
deter him to continue his mission as a shepherd of his flock. He asked the same with the lay
people-- to strive to embody the teachings of the Church and to share the gift of the Catholic
faith.

The fruitful event ended with the participants expressing their admiration to the Bishop of the
Diocese of Kalookan and wishing for more activities similar to the Lenten Recollection. (TDCL)
