    ARVIND 100% HANDMADE JEANS

    Arvind is one of the largest textile and apparel manufacturers in


    the world. It is also one of the founding members of the Sustainable Apparel. Arvind
    is the only mill in the world that offers 100% handmade denim (KHADI), produced in
    collaboration with small artisans.

    These denims/jeans are made by human hands only as no sewing machines


    are used in production.

    From beginning, the cotton is cleaned by hands manually by traditional


    methods. Then yarn is spun on Charkha (manual spinning device). It was used by
    Gandhi Ji to spun yarn and promote ‘KHADI’. So it is very much related to indian
    culture and background.

    Khadi term is used for a fabric which is totally hand made from start to end
    process by human hands only.

    After spinning yarn, fabric is weaved manually on traditional looms in


    Ahmedabad by weavers of Gujarat. Arvind has also trained a very few weavers to
    weave the fabric to that quality which meets standards of Arvind.

    After weaving, the fabric is dyed in its specific blue colour of denims in Boilers
    by natural dyes. Fabric is dyed by natural Indigo dye. No machines are used in dyeing
    process.

    When full prepared fabric is received, it is stiched to made Denim Jeans/pants.


    One of the most special thing is that ‘There is no sewing machine used in sewing
    process.’ Yes, it is done manually by hands. Every stich either it is lock stich or chain
    stich, It is done by hands by skilled workers. Mostly these workers are women.

    This initiative by Arvind is providind employment to large number of people


    from rural area.
    Q. What is the need of manufacturing denims in this way?
    A. Main aspect is to provide something different to the
    customer.
    Q. Why would customer will choose to buy these denims
    instead of Normal denims of better quality ?
    A. As we know these denims are made up by hands from start
    to end, so it is connected to the emotions and feelings of every
    worker that worked on it. It was passed from a number of
    workers. Every worker has done a process on garment by
    his/her own hands. So these garments will make a relation
    between cutomer and workers.
    Q. Why would customer buy this garment on high price of
    normal jeans present in market?
    A. Actually the price of these jeans are not very much high by
    normal jeans present in market. These have almost same price.
    But as u know it is totaly handmade, so it has an upper hand.
    UV PROTECTION
    Raw cotton without finishing is better to protect from UV
    rays than a finished product. There may be some chemicals that
    can protect us from harmful UV rays but on otherside these
    chemicals have some harmful effects to body/skin also.
    UV rays are harmful for every living organism on earth and
    due to depletion in ozone layer, this danger has been increased.
    Reasearches are going on to protect UV rays by clothing by
    using some chemicals. But these chemicals can be harmful for
    us on other ways too.
