REASON: The Pressure Regulating Shut Off Valves (PRSOV-1’s and PRSOV-2’s) have
been modified and upgraded to eliminate several issues experienced on
previous iterations of the PRSOV’s and to improve operational reliability.
Additionally, the interface between the Muscle Line has changed on the
PRSOV-1’s, allowing for the increase of clearance between the Muscle Line
and the Thrust Reverser.

DESCRIPTION: This Service Bulletin provides instructions for the recommended replacement

with upgrade versions. Instructions for both On-Wing and Workshop
replacements are provided.

B. Concurrent Requirements
The incorporation of this present Service Bulletin cancels the need of Service Bulletin
No. BD70CR30-002.

C. Reason
(1) Objective
The accomplishment of this Service Bulletin will replace previous iterations of the
Pressure Regulating Shut Off Valves (PRSOV-1’s and PRSOV-2’s) for upgraded
versions with introduced product improvements.

(2) Problem
Previous iterations of the Pressure Regulating Shut Off Valves were experiencing
several technical problems resulting in severe operational reliability issues.
Additionally, the muscle line connecting the PRSOV-1 and PRSOV-2 had a low
clearance to the thrust reverser.

(3) Cause
Butterfly Valve and Shaft: The splined interface of the Butterfly Valve (Disk) and
Shaft accumulated damage associated to fretting wear from relative motion. This
damage leads to the valves being unable to regulate pressure.
Heat Shield/Cooling Tube Interface: Broken Cooling Tubes and cracking damage on
the surface of the Heat shield has been discovered resulting from vibration.
Inhibit Pin Assembly: The clearance between the Inhibit Pin and storage hole allows
for relative motion associated with vibration, resulting in wear within the storage hole
and loss of retention capabilities of the pin.
Actuator Piston Linkage: The interface of the Piston Link-Arm and Spacer has been
subject to galling and adhesive wear during valve actuation cycles.
Muscle Line: There is low clearance between the Thrust Reverser and the Muscle
Line, which has the potential to cause damage to the adjacent fire blankets.

(4) Maintenance Consequences

None

D. Description
This Service Bulletin provides instructions for the recommended replacement of the Air
Intake Cowl Anti-Ice Protection Pressure Regulating Shut Off Valves for upgraded versions.
The PRSOV-1’s and PRSOV-2’s are being upgraded to implement several improvements,
including: a Butterfly Valve and Shaft change to eliminate fretting wear from relative motion,
a design change to the Heat Shield and Cooling Tube interface to eliminate cracking
damage, replacement of the Inhibit Pin with a bolt to reduce wear and improve retention
capabilities, and tolerance/material changes to the Actuator Piston Linkage to reduce wear.
Additionally, the interface between the Muscle Line has changed on the PRSOV-1’s,
allowing for the increase of clearance between the Muscle Line and the Thrust Reverser.

(1) Labor

A labor credit allowance of the stated man hours listed in section 1.G. may be submitted for
each Engine Build Up modified per the effectivity of this Service Bulletin.

Claim for labor will be accepted upon receipt of the implementation report of this Service
Bulletin, and the engine serial number upon which it has been implemented. This claim will be
accepted within 90 days after the accomplishment of this Service Bulletin.

Warranty: Claims will only be considered within the first two years starting from the SB initial
issue date (excluding any revision issues).

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

A. General

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER

THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT
FOR A LONG TIME AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH HOT PARTS WITHOUT APPLICABLE GLOVES. HOT
PARTS CAN CAUSE AN INJURY. IF YOU GET AN INJURY, PUT IT IN
COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES AND GET MEDICAL AID.

CAUTION: DURING EACH OPERATION, BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO

THE SURROUNDING STRUCTURES.
CAUTION: INSTALL A TEMPORARY PROTECTION AROUND THE WORK AREA.

B. On-Wing

(1) Safety Precautions

(a) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
1. Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
2. Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch is in the OFF position not
less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
3. Put a warning notice(s) in position to tell persons not to operate the:
- ENG/MODE selector switch
- ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch
(b) On the ENG section of the maintenance panel 50VU:
1. Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton is off.
2. Put a warning notice(s) in position to tell persons not to engage FADEC 1(2).

(2) Gain Access

(a) Open the fan cowl doors. (Refer to AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803-A)
(b) Put an access platform 1m (3ft) in position.

(c) Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Engine Maintenance

WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO
WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN
OPERATE ACCIDENTLY AND CAUSE INJURYAND/OR DAMAGE.
1. Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance. (Refer
to AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809-A)
(d) Open the thrust reverser cowl doors. (Refer to AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806-A)
(e) Put an access platform in position under the left thrust reverser cowl door.
(3) Remove the AFT Air Intake Anti-Ice Valve (PRSOV-1) (ER8762P01 or 612C9500-005)
per AMM TASK 30-21-51-000-804-A.
(4) Remove the FWD Air Intake Anti-Ice Valve (PRSOV-2) (ER8763P01 or 612C9501-005)
per AMM TASK 30-21-51-000-805-A.
(5) Install a replacement AFT Air Intake Anti-Ice Valve (PRSOV-1), part number
612C9500-007, with a new Muscle Line, part Number ER9181P01, per AMM TASK
30-21-51-400-804-A.
(a) TRIPLE-TORQUE the aft connector of the new Muscle Line to the new PRSOV-1 to
between 1.51 and 1.77 m.daN (11.14 and 13.05 lbf.ft).
(6) Install a replacement FWD Air Intake Anti-Ice Valve (PRSOV-2), part number
612C9501-007, per AMM TASK 30-21-51-400-805-A.
(a) TRIPLE-TORQUE the fwd connector of the new Muscle Line to the new PRSOV-2 to
between 1.51 and 1.77 m.daN (11.14 and 13.05 lbf.ft).
(7) Close the thrust reverser cowl doors. (Refer to AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-806-A)
(8) Fill in the attached completion report and send it to the address stated in report.
(9) Write in the Aircraft Log Book and/or other applicable documents that Service Bulletin
No. BD70CR30-017 has been applied.
(10) Do the reactivation of the thrust reverser system after nacelle maintenance. (Refer to
AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-809-A).

(11) Close Up
(a) Make sure that the work area is clear of tools and other items.
(b) Remove the access platform.
(c) Close the fan cowl doors. (Refer to AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803-A).
(d) Remove the warning notice(s).

C. In Workshop

NOTE: This procedure is to be done for QEC kits installed on a spare Engine.
(1) Remove the FWD (PRSOV-2) and AFT (PRSOV-1) valves per PPBUM
71-00-00-040-827-A01.
(2) Install the replacement FWD (PRSOV-2) and AFT (PRSOV-1) valves, part numbers
612C9501-007 and 612C9500-007 respectively, with new Muscle Line, part number
ER9181P01, per PPBUM 71-00-00-440-833-A01.
(a) TRIPLE-TORQUE the aft connector of the new Muscle Line to the new PRSOV-1 to
between 1.51 and 1.77 m.daN (11.14 and 13.05 lbf.ft).
(3) Fill in the attached completion report and send it to the address stated in report.
(4) Make sure that the work area is clear of tools and other items.
