Forming Limit For STKM 11A

(1) The document provides material properties for the tube material STKM 11A including its initial yield strength, Young's modulus, strength coefficient K, and strain-hardening coefficient n. (2) It discusses forming limit stress diagrams (FLSDs) which are constructed using the local necking criterion to predict bursting failure in hydroforming processes with non-linear strain paths. (3) The FLSD is independent of strain path, unlike conventional forming limit diagrams (FLDs), and the forming limit stress increases with increases in the material's R-value and K-value.

FORMING LIMIT STRESS DIAGRAM (FLSD)
• Forming limit stress diagram (FLSD) is constructed by plotting the
calculated principal stresses based on the local necking criterion.
• Using the theoretical FLSD, we carry out the numerical prediction of
bursting failure in a hydroforming process, which usually has non-
linear strain path.
• Even though Forming limit diagrams (FLDs) have been proven to be
useful method for the assessment of forming severity, application of
the strain-based FLD is valid only for the cases of proportional loading
and dependent on the strain path.
• FLSD is independent of the strain path.

Influences of material properties on forming
limit stress diagram

(a) The forming limit stress increases with increase of R-value in both the tensile-compression and the biaxial tensile zone, (c) that increases with
increase of K-value.
(b) The limit stress is decreased with the relatively increasing the n-value in the region of positive minor stress while it shows opposite trend in the other
region, which has not significant meaning in tube hydroforming in view of bursting failure.

Note: Large n-value makes it easy to occur plastic instability; meanwhile, large R-value and K-value can delay
the onset of plastic instability.
