Sometimes, organization refers to associational
groups. It includes corporations, armies, schools, and banks.
Society composes many of such organizations.
Organization is a state of being or a condition in
which various institutions in society are functioning by their recognized or implied purposes (Elliott and Merrill, 1950). SOCIAL ORGANIZATION Social organization is a concept that social scientists have developed for the scientific study of society, culture, and personality.
Social organization or social system
refers to the interdependence of parts in groups. These groups may differ in size and nature. SOCIAL ORGANIZATION Social organization is a process of bringing order and significance into human social life. It has its roots in social interaction. For example, when a boy and a girl get married, they communicate and interact frequently with each other, adjust their activities with each other, influence each other, and share common ideas. This social relationship becomes progressively more regulated, patterned, and orderly. SOCIAL STRUCTURE
-Refers to the independent network
of roles and the hierarchy of statuses which define the reciprocal expectations and the power arrangement of the members of the social unit guided by norms.(Sheriff and Sheriff 1969:150) SOCIAL STRUCTURE
-It is the patterned and recurrent
social relationships among persons in organized collectives as well as among the various parts. (Peruci, Knudsen, and Hamby 1977:39 SOCIAL FUNCTION
It is refers to the results of action
that occur in relation to a particular structure and includes the results of the activities of individuals occupying particular statuses (Schwartz 1968:181) SOCIAL FUNCTION The social activity of a given social structure has certain consequences which make the adaptation or adjustment.
The expected functions of the family
are to produce offspring, socialize them, and give security and protection to its members. At times the expected functions are not realized. Different Social Groups of Social Organization
Each community is made up of
smaller groups and associations that are built on social class, personal interest, or common goals. Different Social Groups of Social Organization 1. The power elite is run by a small group representing the wealthiest, most powerful, and most influential people in government, business, and the military. Example: A generous business person may make substantial contributions to a political candidate. Different Social Groups of Social Organization 2. Voluntary associations are groups that people choose to join, wherein members are united by the pursuit of a common goal. Example: a parent-teacher association at a particular school Different Social Groups of Social Organization 3. Formal organizations are secondary groups organized to achieve specific goals. Legal organizations tend to be larger and more impersonal than voluntary associations. Example: A corporation is usually a formal organization. The very specific goal of most companies is to increase profits. Different Social Groups of Social Organization 4. Bureaucracy is a type of formal organization in which a rational approach is used to handle large tasks. The bureaucratic organization is highly organized with a high degree of formality in the way it operates. Examples: colleges and universities Different Social Groups of Social Organization 4. Bureaucracy - a large group of people who are involved in running a government but who are not elected.
