Vectors can be written in ijk notation using their x, y, z components rather than magnitude and direction. To convert a vector to ijk notation, its magnitude is written as the x-component times the sine of the angle from the x-axis plus the y-component times the cosine of the angle. Vectors can then be easily combined by adding their corresponding i, j, k components, and converted back by taking the square root of the sum of squares of the components to get the magnitude, and using trigonometry to get the direction angle.
