Review of Related Literature

According to (Direct Mail Proportions Fast Food

Companies,2018) that many children are patronizing fast food

chains, and fast food brands constantly create new ways to

promote their restaurants to youngsters. Children spend their

time on playing computers, surfing the web, listening to music

and playing games. Fast food restaurants such as McDonald's,

Burger King and others designed "advergames," which are online

games children can play while there are advertisement popping in

their computers from different companies. In that way it helps

the food businesses to have many young customers.

The fast food chain must always consider the affordability

of their products and put consideration of the consumers

capability in buying their products and services. According to

Pilon (2014) , that 32% of people choose a place to eat where it

is cheap and 31% of people eat in a fast food chain for

convenience. There are students who have high allowance which in

the study of Dumlao (2014), it was mentioned that the students

with higher daily allowance have the possibility of choosing

other place to eat other than their school canteen.

According to Mc Neill (2017), that different grade level of

students are always on the move due to their busy schedules, so

many of them make fast food the way to go. With many fast food

restaurants located in the area, fast food tends to be the


simplest and most convenient way to get food. According to Das

(2015), there is a decrease in percentage of energy intake from

foods consumed at home, whereas the proportion of energy intake

from restaurant food and fast food increased over time .Grade

level students spend most of the time away from home by

attending tuition classes after school hours. Grade level

students take breakfast at home and fast food in school or

outside school. A positive correlation of increased fast food

consumption and increased body mass index was found among

adolescents. Socio economic status is an important factor

related to fast food consumption. Grade level students from high

socio-economic status prefer fast foods to traditional foods

despite their better nutritional knowledge.

In this research, the effect of gender on fast-food

consumption has been studied to determine fast-food consumption

habits with a survey given to 900 people including Tekirdag city

centre high school students and Namik Kemal University students.

Also, the relationship between fast-food consumption and

overweight, and whether the students have trust for hygiene

applications of fast food producing and service enterprises has

been studied. 900 people in total were involved in this research

(459 females and 441 males). According to the results of the

survey, a significant relationship between gender and fast-food

choice type, portion size, consumption frequency, trust for


complying hygiene rules, the need of being informed about food

security, being affected by commercials, food poisoning and the

reaction to it, and not consuming fast-food has been found. Many

Turkish adolescents are becoming increasingly more westernized

and have greater convenience when they eat out. Fast-food type

nutrition which is popular among children and teenagers contains

deficient or excess nutrients. High schools and universities are

appropriate establishments for students to gain correct

nutritional habits. This research has been planned to determine

fast-food preferences of different gender.

According to Song (2016), rates of overweight and obesity

are high, and the prevalence of obesity has continued to rise

over the past few decades. Excessive consumption of fast food

has been one of the multiple contributing factors driving the

Overweight and obese epidemic. This literature review summarizes

the disadvantages of fast food on people's health, reveals

common people's average fast food consumption. Based on this

background, the paper is to explore factors why some people

choose not to consume fast food, as well as factors why some

people choose to consume fast food, and to summarize some

recommendations that can help reduce the consumption of fast

food from the studies that have already been done.

Religion plays an important roles in food choices, its

because everyone have their on culture for some eating both


chicken and pork is prohibited the reason is its hot considered

as clean, and some believe in saying that “you are you eat”.

That’s why it comes to food that they serve. The relationship

between food and religion is a lived activity by involving food

(Zeller, 2012).
