ABSTRACT
Trading in the Indian stock market takes place on its two exchanges namely BSE (Bombay
Stock Exchange), which came into existence in 1875 & NSE (National Stock Exchange) which
was founded in 1992 and started their trading operations from 1994. The entire mechanism of
trading in both the exchanges is order driven, i.e. there are no markets specialists for the trading
process, which means the market orders placed by the investors are automatically matched with
the best limit orders. The advantage of this is it brings more transparency, by displaying the
buy and sell orders in the trading system. The two prominent indexes in the Indian market are
Sensex and NIFTY50. Sensex is the oldest market index and includes the shares of 30
companies listed on the BSE and NIFTY50 includes the shares of 50 companies listed on the
NSE.
Analysis of the stock markets aids the investors in decision making as to which stocks to trade
on and when to buy and sell the shares. It helps them in understanding the market dynamics,
the players in the market and the market trends. The stock market analysis can be done in the
following ways:
a) Technical analysis:
Technical analysis facilitates faster investing decisions, as it is the study of the historic
market data and past performance to predict the future performance in the stock market.
b) Fundamental analysis:
Fundamental analysis is a long term investing decision. It depends on the intrinsic value
which is not looked at in the technical analysis. In fundamental analysis the balance
sheet of the company, the profit and loss account and the cash flow statements of the
company is analyzed to predict the future performance of the company in the stock
market.
For this study the stocks of four sectors are analyzed, which are Banking Sector, FMCG Sector,
and Automobile Sector & IT Sector and under each sector three companies are chosen for the
purpose of analysis. The tools used to analyze are Technical and Fundamental analysis. The
main aim of stock analysis is to aid the investor in making financially sound decisions and
anticipate their future price movements to make better decisions on whether to buy, sell or hold
the stocks.

Every investor is advised to have enough knowledge about the stock market before making any
investment decision. To analyze the stock market the most commonly used tools are Technical
analysis and Fundamental analysis. Technical analysis is apt for short term investors whereas
fundamental analysis is apt for long term investors. Technical analysis is based on historic
prices and aims to analyze the past prices and volume of the shares and fundamental analysis
involves a detail study of the economy, the industry and the financial statements of the
company. In this study we have studied four sectors namely, Banking Sector, Automobile
Sector, FMCG Sector and IT sector. As per the intrinsic values the shares of Banking Sector,
Automobile Sector and IT Sector are undervalued and it is better to buy the shares of those
sectors as the prices may rise in the near future. Whereas the shares of the FMCG Sector are
overvalued and it is better to sell their shares as their prices may fall in the near future. Analysis
of the stock market will help in better investing decisions and predicting the future of the stock
in the market. The main aim of stock analysis is to aid the investor in making financially sound
decisions and anticipate their future price movements to make better decisions on whether to
buy, sell or hold the stock.
