Welcome to sixth-grade Language Arts. I am so excited to have you in my class this year! We are
going to have a lot of fun improving our reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills! Please read
this information so that you are aware of your responsibilities and informed on how our class will
function.

Classroom Expectations:
In our classroom, we will base our expectations on being a CHAMP.

If students don’t meet these expectations, they will get a warning, a teacher talk, an email or
phone call home, or a visit with the vice principal.

Punch Cards/House Points/Rewards

Students in my class will have the opportunity to earn rewards individually, as well as with assigned
grouping.
Individual
● Each student is given a punch card.
● Through positive behavior and hard work, they will check off squares on their card.
● When the card is filled, they will earn an individual prize/reward
Students will also use their punch cards to buy pencils, get a drink, use the restroom, and use the class
headphones. Students will need to be responsible for keeping track of their own punch card.

Group
● Each student will be assigned to a Hogwart House. They are expected to follow the classroom
expectations, as well as be a contributing member to their group. They will participate in a
House Cup competition within their class period that will allow them to earn prizes.

There are many ways that students can earn both stamps on their cards, as well as House Points, for
instance: daily attendance, reading a book, completing assignments well, good behavior, etc.

Supplies:
The only thing that students need to bring to school is a package of lined paper. Otherwise,
students should keep plenty of pencils/pens in their backpack, a set of headphones (while I do
have a class set that students can use, it really is nice to have your own set), and possibly a
homework/notes binder or folder.

Homework:
Daily homework: Read 30 minutes, 5 days a week for a total of 150 minutes a week. Weekly
reading logs will be sent home on Monday’s to be turned in the following Monday.

Academic Grading Standard:

All final grades are weighted in language arts: 70% of students grades are based on tests and
quizzes while 30% of the grades will be based on their classwork/homework. It is extremely
important that a student ask for any missing work if they are absent for any reason. Students will
have as much time as they need to make up any missing or late work; however, the longer it
takes to turn in work, the easier it is for students to forget about it. I encourage students to
turning in missing or late work as soon as possible.

Library
Students will be able to check books out from both the school library and our classroom library.
Library books have a limit of two weeks for a book to be checked out. After that, a fine of five
cents a day will be assigned to the student. Classroom books do not have a time limit. For both
sets of books, please be respectful; if a book gets damaged, students will need to pay to have
them replaced.

Chromebooks
We will frequently use Chromebooks in Language Arts (really almost all of your classes).
Students will need to use these appropriately. If there is ever a time that a Chromebooks, is used
in any other way than a Language Arts purpose, students could lose privileges and parents will
be contacted.

Cell Phones
You will not need your phone or any other electronic device in our classes. You will be asked to
place your cell phone in an appropriate place as you arrive to class. If a student is caught using
their any device in class, the teacher will take it for the remainder of the class or day. Parents
can call the school if they need to get in touch with you during class. It is best and safest to leave
all other devices at home.
Keep the first page for your records, and return this page to Mrs. Goodwin by
