Triumph of The City
Triumph of The City
Triumph of The City
*Cities are centres of innovation and ideas for both , the densities of cities and
their harnessing of propinquity that is critical
*The city may win but the citizens loose too often
*Mumbai, Kolkata, &Bangalore boost not only India’s economy but also its mood.
* 20th century America didn’t belong to the skyscraper’s it belonged to the Car.
*Ideas move from person to person in dense urban spaces, this exchange often
creates MIRACLES OF HUMAN CREATIVITY
NEW YORK
1.America’s Super-port: When America moved to hub and spoke shipping systems
NY became the natural hub
2. The cities position was only strengthened when canals made Manhattan the
end of a great water arc, that cut through the mid-west and all the way to new
Orleans
6. IDEA of producing ENTREPENEURS who can scour the earth in search of PROFIT
8. Cities are absence of physical space between the people and the companies
9.The success of a city depends upon the demand for physical connection
10. They are gateway between markets and culture, and a nation’s GENIUS is
expressed in them.
11. A city must create productivity advantage that offset the cost of living
12. Cities speed innovation by connecting their smart inhabitants to each other.
13. The City will lift 800,000 New Yorkers out of poverty or near poverty by
2025. We will do this by fighting to raise the minimum wage, and launching
high-impact initiatives to support education and job growth. We will seek to
reduce premature mortality by 25 percent by 2040 by ensuring that all New
Yorkers have access to physical and mental healthcare services and
addressing hazards in our homes.

MEXICO
Challenges:
Aging Infrastructure
Environmental Degradation
Rainfall Flooding
Water Insecurity
at all levels are key to building resilience, especially on priorities such as water
and integrated mobility management.
In the vision of this pillar, Megalopolis and the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of
Mexico (ZMVM) work together
In the case of extreme rainfall events, ponding and floods may affect City
operations, such as the mobility network.
The vision for this pillar is that water in the Mexico Basin is handled under the
Comprehensive Management of City Water Resources (GIRHU),
- The vision for this pillar is that CDMX citizens have equal access to urban
amenities, housing,
green areas, and public spaces, and that improvements in the environment and
improving mobility via an integrated, safe, and sustainable mobility system while
discouraging the use of cars.
AMMAN
1. As a city that has grown rapidly and adapted to accommodate large migrant
populations throughout its history, we are already familiar with the concept of
resilience
2. But as other pressures such as climate change, lack of economic diversity, and
resource constraints increase, they are now facing new challenges
3. The comprehensive five pillar strategy aims to address all aspects of life and the
needs of the city
The pillars:
*New approaches to energy generation are needed to help move to a safe and
sustainable low carbon economy and increase energy security.
*To accommodate increasing resource scarcity, climate change impacts, increasing
population, and poor economic development, the city must look to clean and
efficient energy resources and green solutions.
*Water scarcity is amongst Jordan's most critical issues. To control
water consumption, at present, water is delivered only once a week to citizens and
businesses. Demand is also intensifying due to the increasing needs of those
displaced by Syria’s civil war. The Red -Dead Canal is expected to be operational by
2022, helping to bridge the gap between our current water resource and demand.
We want to empower the home makers and working women and give them
incentives to participate in Amman's workforce.
build an inclusive and empowered youth community who are engaged in key
city issues, and involved in decision-making and governance to create the leaders of
tomorrow.
Bridge the gap between Amman's institutions and the citizens. Engage people in
decision-making through dialog, transparency, and equality for both genders
ATHENS
AN OPEN CITY
Data driven policy making is the only way to avoid duplication, maximize the use of
our resources, respond to our city's critical needs, know what to prioritize, keep
people connected, creative and satisfi ed with their work.
Athens will foster collaboration and engagement. The City of Athens has
managed to survive the recent socioeconomic crisis by forging collaborations among
the public, private and civic sectors. This is an increasingly important aspect of city
governance and it is absolutely crucial in forging city resilience.
A GREEN CITY
It needs a culture change to understand, support, and promote its green and blue
infrastructures.
The city has been struggling with, keeping its public spaces clean, free of "noise"
and pollution. This important "quality of life" issue is a crucial indicator of
effectiveness and accountability. Developing a forward looking and data driven
waste management plan is among the top most priorities of our city's resilience.
An "open city" is a city that listens to its people. Athens has been trying to create
structures of participatory governance, built on bottom-up informed policy making.
