Open the computer case. Locate a 5.25-inch drive bay (these are the bays that
usually would contain an item such as a CD-ROM drive). Slide the removable
hard drive bay (the outer portion of the complete unit) into the computer case
from the front side. Align the screw points on the
removable drive bay to the screw points on the
mounting rack inside the computer case. Use four
screws to secure the removable drive bay to the
mounting rack inside of the computer case.
Locate the options jumper block on the back of the hard drive. Set the jumpers
to Cable Select **. Locate the IDE connector on the back of the hard drive, and
the IDE cable inside of the removable hard drive rack. Align pin-1 on the IDE
cable (follow the red stripe) to pin-1 on the IDE connector. Plug the cable into
the connector ***.
Plug the IDE cable into the hard drive. Locate the
power lead inside the removable hard drive rack.
Plug the power lead into the hard drive. Set the
hard drive into the removable hard drive rack,
align the screw points on the drive to the mounting
points on the removable hard drive rack. Secure
the hard drive into the removable hard drive rack
with at least four screws.
Turn on the computer. The hard drive will be automatically recognized; however,
to enable hot swapping features†, some minor changes will need to be made
through the software.
Enter the BIOS‡ of the computer, and set the drive installed to the removable
hard drive tray to “AUTO-DETECT”. This will allow the computer system to
automatically detect the type and size of the hard drive. Exit the BIOS and save
the changes.
