Detailed Lesson Plan June 24, 2019

DLP No. 14 Learning Areas Level Quarter Duration
Earth & Life Grade 11 1st Quarter 1 hour
Science
Learning The learners: Code:
Competency/ies - Describe how rocks S11/12ES-Ib-11
undergo weathering
Key Concepts /  Weathering of rocks: the breaking down of materials of Earth’s
Understanding crust into smaller pieces
Developed  Agents of weathering are in the atmosphere, temperature
change, moisture and frost
 Chemical weathering ( decomposition of bed rocks by altering or
dissolving the component rock mineral)
 Biological weathering ( it involves living organisms like plant and
burrowing animals)
1. Objectives
KNOWLEDGE Describe how rocks undergo weathering.
SKILLS Classify the means of weathering in rocks: whether physical or chemical.
ATTITUDE Demonstrate critical thinking in describing how rocks undergo weathering.
VALUES Identify disaster-prone areas in your locality that undergoes weathering.
2. CONTENT
EXOGENIC PROCESSES
3. LEARNING  Video-clip
RESOURCES presentationhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17Tgv4Mj0-Y
 Earth & Life Science by James F. Petersen et al.

4. PROCEDURES
4.1 Introductory Activity Setting the mood:
(2 mins) - The teacher sets the mood by telling the class to prepare their
notebooks and writing pens to jot down important things from the
video-clip to be presented that will follow in a short while.
4.2 Activity / Strategy STRATEGY: Visual Presentation
(13mins.) The teacher will show a video-clip presentation in rock weathering.
The students will jot down notes on important points on the video-clip
being presented.

4.3 Analysis (5mins) - Teacher will ask relevant questions after the video-clip presentation.
Sample Questions
- How did you feel while the video clip was shown to you?
- What relevant information have you learned from it?
- Why is it important for you to know the facts about rock weathering?
Note : Teacher can also solicit from learners issues concepts that are
confusing to them
4.4 Abstraction The teacher will discuss concepts for emphasis by showing a concept
(5 mins) map to the students that contains the ff. important concepts: rock
weathering, physical weathering, chemical weathering, agents of
physical weathering, decomposition of bed rocks and biological
weathering.

4.5 Application (5 mins) Group reporting by Powerpoint presentation

- Teacher will ask the students to present their PPT’s on the areas
previously assigned to them showing rock weathering.
- Each group are given 2 minutes to present. (Only two groups)
4.6 Assessment Think Pair Share
Ask the students to get together in pairs and answer the following questions.
Have 2 or 3 pairs discuss their answers in front of the class.
1. List some everyday examples of weathering. Identify and explain whether
these everyday occurrences show physical or chemical weathering. (Possible
answers: Paint on walls gradually deteriorating, tree roots breaking concrete
or rock, bleach removing stains on clothes, rust on a car, barely legible
inscriptions in marble monuments, etc.)

4.7 Assignment for the learners :

- the group will prepare themselves on the topic the agents of erosion
- they should know the difference between weathering and erosion
for the teacher to prepare
- Pictures showing the agents of erosion to be used for tomorrow’s
lesson
4.8 Concluding Activity Feed backing on the group presentation through PPT.
5. Remarks  Teacher check multi-media tools if they are in good condition
 Play the video-clip before presenting it to the class to check its
audibility
Note: Sample remarks. This will be filled-up after the lesson has been
carried out.

6. Reflection - I find that the lesson went well because the students were well-motivated
and the video-clip shown was very informative and enjoyable.
Note: Sample reflection. This will be filled-up after the lesson has
been carried out.
