Concrete Cement Pavement rehabilitation, detentions of old concrete slabs anti-cracking solution and
milling concrete solution, pavement asphalt works. Rehabilitation of 20 bridges, 100 culverts, drainage
works, third lanes, consolidation works drilled micro piles, retaining walls. Financed By EBRD; FIDIC
1999 Conditions of Contract. Value of works: 50 Mil €
Position Held: Materials Engineer and Q.A. Engineer
Activities performed: Responsible for all approvals of materials used in permanent works, asphalt,
concrete mix design, cement stabilized ballast, ballast, earthworks, guardrails, gutters, precast and pre-
stressed elements, consolidation works, drilling, caps, materials for bridges, waterproofing, kerbs,
expansion joints, steel, and handrail. Technical agreements in accordance with Technical
Specifications. Supervision for new solution of detention concrete slabs pavement and anti-cracking
layer (Drop Hammer solution). Verification of laboratory, audits, Concrete and Asphalt Plant calibration.
Quality test reports.
Basic Components of Concrete Cement Pavements verification used:
- soil subgrade.
- drainage layer.
- sub-base course generally constructed using lean cement concrete or ‘dry lean concrete’
- Separation membrane laid on top of base course.
- CC pavement slabs Using quality Concrete
- Construction of different types of joints in CC pavements.
Equipment’s required for the different phases of concrete road construction has been approved:
Three wheeled or vibratory roller for compaction purpose, Shovels, spades and Sieving screens,
Concrete mixer for mixing of concrete, Formwork and iron stakes, Watering devices - Water Lorries,
water carriers, Wooden hand tampers for concrete compaction, Cycle pump/pneumatic air blower for
cleaning of joint, modified rubberized bitumen joint sealing, Mild steel sections and blocks for making
joint grooves for finishing purpose. Executed and maintenance of Longitudinal joints (parallel to traffic
flow), Transverse joints (perpendicular to traffic flow), Contraction joints, Expansion joints, construction
joints. During initial period of curing, shrinkage cracks usually develop in concrete pavements, when
length or width of the slabs exceeds 4.5 to 5 m width or more. Longitudinal joints are provided whose
spacing depends on width of traffic lane. Prevent the formation of irregular cracks due to restraint in free
contraction of concrete. Expansion joints relieving compressive stresses due to expansion of concrete
slabs and preventing any tendency towards distortion and buckling. Due to the fact that the Concrete
pavement have been used to replace the damaged cracked slabs has been observed the full depth
reconstruction of the foundation required and re-evaluate alternative solution has been applied Drop
hammer detention slabs and anti-cracking granular layer has been used
