    Magdalena Smith Villaruz

     Born in the year 1934


     Filipino inventor and entrepreneur in the Philippines but originally a rice farmer.
     She went on to transform agricultural technology by creating the turtle hand tractor and many other
    ground-breaking inventions.
     Magdalena now heads a large company that manufactures and markets the machine in many tropical
    countries. A prolific inventor, she is the holder of many patents for agricultural equipment. In addition,
    she is very active in inventor organisations in the Philippines, and was the first woman to win the
    Philippines Inventor of the Year Award (1986). Then in 1995 she was awarded the World Intellectual
    Property Organisation’s gold medal, in recognition of being the most outstanding woman inventor in the
    Philippines.

    Turtle Power Tiller

     A power tiller is basically a set of blades (called tines) that are mounted within a wheeled housing and
    are powered by either a gasoline engine or an electric motor. Each tine consists of four blades curving in
    alternately opposing directions. Blades one and three are curved pointing in toward the tiller; blades two
    and four are curved pointing away from the tiller. The inward-pointing tines keep the clods of soil and
    grass from accumulating on the blades, while the outward-pointing tines are the heavy cutters. They all
    work in conjunction with one another to dig into the soil aggressively, all the while moving soil away
    from the tines to avoid clogging them.

    Importance of the invention


     This is to help the farmers and make their work easier and be more productive than usual. Farm works
    will be faster because of this equipment or invention.

    Disadvantages
     Maintenance – Gas and some parts of the machine are expensive in case the machine breaks.
