Update Cable T-CODE PC Computer
The update for your T-Code is carried out through the use of a Windows based computer with
Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and a Com Port.
1) Connect the 9-Pin Serial port connector to your Com Port on your
Windows based computer. If you do not have an available Com Port on your computer, you will
have to use a computer that has one available.
A Com Port is a 9 pin port connection on the back of your computer. The Com Port is also known
as a Serial Port. The Com Port has 2 rows of pins, not 3. If you see a Port on the back of your
computer with 3 rows of pins - that is a monitor port, not a Com Port.
3) Connect the 25-Pin connector to your T-Code unit and enter your password to get you to the
main menu. Do not touch any buttons on the T-Code while it is updating.
Sorry, we cannot offer technical assistance on how to use your computer. If you are unable to update your T-Code
yourself, we can do it for you for a service fee of $35 plus shipping.

AUDI - VOLKSWAGEN WARNING
Some cases of internal damage to the T-CODE have been traced to a radio wiring fault
on Audi / Volkswagen vehicles.
Audi / Volkswagen cars from 1997 onwards have the ability to code/fault code read the
radio and therefore the diagnostic wire or K line that is used to connect all of the control
units on the car (including the immobiliser) goes to the radio. If an aftermarket radio has
been fitted, it is possible that this “K” line may have inadvertently been shorted to 12volt
by the after-market adapter harness. This will not cause any running faults etc with the
vehicle, but when you come along and plug in your T-CODE it will fail to communicate
and can end up permanently damaged.
To test for this problem on vehicles later than 1996, either use a multimeter carry out the
following:
Measure the voltage on pin 7 relative to Ground with the ignition and radio on, if it’s be-
low 9 volts then you are OK to connect the T-CODE, if it is 12 volts you will need to wire
a bulb up between Ground and pin 7. If the bulb does not illuminate it is OK to proceed
with the T-CODE, however if it illuminates then you have a wiring fault to the radio DO
NOT CONNECT THE T-CODE!!!

An important note to remember is that Audi - VW models in the U.S. need a PIN Code to
complete key programming. The PIN Code is derived from the Immobilizer Serial Number
contained in the ECU and the VIN.
T-CODE will display the Immobilizer Serial Number (ISN for short ) and then it will be
up to you to get the PIN Code from the dealer. It is a good idea to have a working
relationship with your local dealer in order to obtain the PIN Codes when necessary for
key programming. Some dealers are more friendly than others.

PIN CODE EXPLANATION PAGE
Audi - VW models in the U.S. need a 4 number PIN Code to complete key programming.
The PIN Code is derived from the Immobilizer Serial Number contained in the ECU.
The Immobilizer Serial Number (ISN for short) can be retrieved with a T-CODE machine
easily. Simply connect the machine to the OBD2 port to retrive the ISN. Then it will be up
to you to get the PIN Code from the dealer.
It is a good idea to have a working relationship with your local dealer in order to obtain
the PIN Codes when necessary for key programming. Some dealers are more friendly
than others.
On March 11, 2002, Audi & Volkswagen dealerships were locked out of their old way
to produce 4-Digit PIN codes for key programming. The factory has changed to a new
system which now requires the entry of a 7-Digit PIN code and a WSC (Work Shop Code)
number.
This new system has forced dealerships and third party repair shops to update their soft-
ware and/or equipment. The vehicles will still accept the 4-Digit PIN code, the system to
obtain the PIN code has changed not the car.
T-CODE Owners can call Tech Support for a conversion or request the software to con-
vert their own. T-CODE Technical Support (650-616-1941), You will need the following
when you call Tech Support: 1) 7-Digit PIN, 2) Dealer Code (aka: Work Shop Code),
3)Date the PIN was retrieved by the dealer.

KEYPASS CODE
The key code required to program new keys is shown below. The code is located behind
a small scratch off label, similar to a prize scratchcard. Once scratched off it should
reveal a 4 digit pin code required to code new keys.
On the latest vehicles the 4 digit code is not supplied with the vehicle and the dealers
use a 7 digit code which has the 4 digit hidden within it. This means that a conversion is
required which the VW dealers will not help with. New software now allows the code to
be read from the vehicles memory (on certain models), and overcomes some of these
problems.
ENGINE IDENTIFICATION
To ensure the correct car pass has been supplied, the ECU identification or the 14 digit
code is displayed when first connected. This should be cross checked against the code
supplied with the key passcode.

Cadillac Catera
The 1997-2001 Cadillac Catera is a modified version of the European made Opel.
An important note to remember is that the Catera model in the USA will need a 4 digit
PIN Code to complete key programming. The PIN Code is usually obtained through GM
dealers or Cadillac Roadside. It will display as the VATS code, when in reality it is the PIN
code.
If the wrong password is entered, the process is interupted. After 3 attempts the ECU will
lock and becomes blocked for 10 minutes, you must leave the key ON during this period.
It is a good idea to have a working relationship with your local dealer in order to obtain the
PIN Codes when necessary for key programming. Some dealers are more friendly than
others.

• Fault Codes is a way for the vehicle to report problems it has with hardware on it.
• A problem with the fuel pump would be a hardware problem. The fault code would have ID and a short description of
the problem.
• Transponder keys and parts that make up the transponder system have fault codes associated with them.
• If everything is working fine there should be no fault codes.

• There are specific differences on the Chrysler CAN version for the
2004 Durango. Please read those instruction on the next pages.
• A second PIN code is needed from T-CODE Tech Support after you
have connected your T-CODE to the vehicle. The reason for this is
that Chrysler has added internal security for communicating with the
transponder system on the new CAN system.
Tech Support can supply the second PIN code, however this not a
24 hour service. You must plan your jobs accordingly. Tech Support
can assist you between the hours of 9am to 5pm, Mon - Fri, Pacific
Time Zone.
Tech Support is working on a bypass for the second PIN code but can
give no release date for this bypass.

Special Note for
Important Notice:
Models that use the “HEC”, “ICM”, “VIC” systems will require All keys
present for key programming or they will be erased during the 10
minute wait period.
To program the keys after the 10 minute wait simply cycle all the keys
in the ignition to the ON position for about 3 to 4 seconds each when
prompted to do so with your T-CODE USA.
When you have finished programming keys on one these vehicles you
may find the vehicle does not start and the “Theft” light on the dash
does not light up.
To fix this you must re-connect your T-CODE and turn the key to the
“Run” position as if you were going to program the key again.
Select Ford from the Main Menu and then select “PCM”.
Disconnect the T-CODE and remove the key from the ignition.

Special Note for
Important Notice:
• Most Ford, Lincoln, Mercury & Mazda (Ford based) models are equipped with a fea-
ture called ANTI-SCAN.
• ANTI-SCAN models include vehicles that use PATS 2, HEC, ICM, VIC, PCM & CAN.
This can sometimes be the main cause for a Ford product not starting after program-
ming of new keys or Clear/Erase of keys.
Follow this procedure if the vehicle will not start and the you have cycled your keys
after Clear/Erase has finished:
2) Wait 2 minutes.
3) Turn the first key to ON (Do not try to start) - the Theft light should stay on for 3 sec-
onds and then go out.
4) Repeat this for the Second Key. If the Theft light stays on for 3 seconds and then
goes out, you are not in ANTI-SCAN mode and the vehicle should now start.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• You will not be able to start the vehicle with a un-programmed key and even an origi-
nal key if you have not waited 70 seconds after removing the un-programmed key.
• In some cases you may need to leave the programmed key in the RUN position for 2
minutes and then turn the key OFF and back ON to start the vehicle.
You must cut all keys you want to program into the vehicle.
Do Not tape a mechanical key next to a transponder key for the purpose
key programming. This also applies to “holding” the transponder key next
to the mechanical key. Where this method may work in some cases, it will
eventually cause you to call Tech Support with a programming key prob-
lem. Tech Support for this “situation” is not supported, at all.
The Transponder Induction Wave is not always the same and does not
extend out very far. The Wave cannot pick up keys out of it’s area.

Special Note for
The Theft (Security) light on a Ford product contains many clue’s when
programming keys into the system. The key must be turned ON.
A solid lit THEFT light for 3 seconds and then goes out completely will
indicate the vehicle recognizes a programmed key.
A solid lit THEFT light that stays ON and does not blink or go out in-
dicates that vehicle is in Learn Mode and is waiting for a second key
to be programmed, simply insert another key to be programmed and
turned ON.

- Important Info -
There can be a lot of confusion concerning which is the right key to use and what is
the purpose of the different after-market Acura/Honda transponder keys.
It’s all in the part number and type of transponder chip. Cloning transponder keys
have a chip in them that are made to be have the transponder ID read and also written
too. Cloning transponder keys require a machine like the STRATTEC “Quick-Code”, JET
“Smart Clone”, JET “ETD-1”, ILCO “RW2” to read the chip value, which is usually 32 digits
long. The cloning machines read the value of the original chip key and than can write that
value onto a after-market cloning chip key.
Here’s one of the problems with cloning transponder keys. They all come with a
“Zero” value. Meaning the 32-digit value is all zero’s. During programming of a new key
into the car’s memory the car’s immobilizer computer is looking for a unique value to the
chip and will not accept a value of all zeros. The car’s immobilizer computer see’s this as
an error and in turn causes a fault to be registered in the PCM (Powertrain Control Mod-
ule) computer. To avoid doing this and creating more problems pay close attention to the
part numbers that aftermarket manufacturers use.
> STRATTEC Key Example: Clone Type - “RW” (Means Read Write = Clone)
> JET Key Example: Clone Type - HD106-N-PHT (The “N” means ‘No Value’)
> ILCO Key Example: Clone Type - HD106-PT5 (The “5” on the end = Clone)
You cannot use the above keys for programming unless they are cloned
from an original first or you must use an original factory key. ‘03+ Accord
& TSX models - you must use factory key, new chip.
Some factory keys you buy at the dealer are stamped with a “T5”
on the blade, these keys were meant for cloning, they have a
“Zero” value in them and cannot be used unless they are cloned
first. Make sure they do not have a “T5” anywhere on them.

On a Acura/Honda Type 1 System you must have an existing Black and Red key to
add more keys. If the customer only has a Red or a Black key, but not both, you must
replace the Immobilizer computer as pictured above and program the new unit in with
the T-CODE USA. This is only for TYPE 1 cars, no others require this.
If the customer has no keys you must replace the Immobilizer computer as pictured
above and program the new unit in with the T-CODE USA.
The new Immobilizer Unit includes a matching Master key, a matching Red “Learning”
key and a Immobilizer Control Unit. The keys are matched to the new Control Unit and
cannot be substituted. This is only for TYPE 1 cars, no others require this.

otherwise the Immobilizer will need to be re-programmed again.

Special Note for Type 2 Honda vehicles -
We have found slight differences in a few models that use the Type 2 sys-
tems.
In some cases the key will not program when using the T-CODE USA Honda
adapter. You should always use the Honda adapter first and then if you are
having difficultly successfully programming the key, try it without the Honda
adapter.

2003-2004 CAMRY
2003-2004 Toyota Camry models use various keys depending on engine size and
where and when the car was produced. It also makes a difference if the vehicle was
made for California or not for California.
The first thing to determine is where the car was manufactured. If the vehicle was
made in America it will have a “1” or “4” as the first digit in the VIN. If the vehicle was
made in Japan it will have a “J” as the first digit in the VIN.
Next is the date of production. The production sticker is located on either the Drivers
door or Drivers door opening frame.
Camry’s made for the California market have a “California” Emissions sticker.
Camry’s made for other states have a “Federal” Emissions sticker. The Emissions
sticker is located on the hood or near the engine.

General Information
♦ In 1998 Mazda introduced their version of an immobilizer system. It was used on the
626 in 1998 and then expanded to the MPV van and the Miata sports car starting in 2000.
This system is unique to Mazda and is completely different than the Ford style system used
on the Tribute and
B-Series pick-ups.
♦ It is important to make note of the fact that when you are programming keys into the
626, Miata & MPV that you use a dealer only key and have the right one since there are 2
different types depending on the model year. The two different keys look identical on the
outside, what’s different is the chip inside.
1998 - 1999 626 models use the Mazda part number GE4T-76-2GX.
2000 - 2004 626, Miata & MPV models use Mazda part number BJYV-76-2GX.
♦ The “Immobilizer Control Unit” can hold up to 8 registered (recognized) keys. If a new
key has to be prorammed in to the car’s Immobilizer system, all other keys will be erased.
Therefor, all available keys will need to be present for programming. The Immobilizer
Unit and PCM (Power Control Module) cannot be taken off and used on other cars and
visa-versa. If there are less than 2 pre-programmed transponder keys, a password will be
needed to open the Immobilizer Unit’s programming mode.

General Information
♦ For cars without the Immobilizer system, the ignition face will have the large words
“LOCK”, “ACC”, “ON”, “START” stamped (molded) into the metal gray face, as with other
Mazda products.
♦ For cars with the Immobilizer system, the ignition face will look much smaller and the
words “LOCK”, “ACC”, “ON”, “START” will be stamped (molded) into the black induction
coil itself.

As with all Mazda’s the immobilizer control box is easy to get to.
The immobilizer control box is located on the right side of the steering column behind
the lower trim panel.
Remove the 2 lower trim screws and then the lower dash trim panel can be moved out
of the way.
The immobilizer control box is in easy reach once the trim is removed. The immobilizer
control box label will be opposite of your direction.

The top section of the trim panel
below the steering column should
snap apart from the dash.
The Mazda 626 is similar with the other Mazda models using this unique system.
For this car we picked a 2001 model year. This car is real popular with some of
the rental car agencies.
You can tell by looking at the ignition lock cylinder. If the writing on the lock
housing such as; LOCK, ACC, ON & START are molded into the plastic face
than the vehicle has an active transponder system. If the writing is molded into
the metal face of the lock than there is no active transponder system.
There are 2
fasteners at the
bottom of the trim
panel, below the
steering column
that must be
removed.

The next step is to open the side panel and
remove the 2 Phillips head screws that secure
the side of the lower trim panel.
PROCEDURE FOR WHEN THERE ARE NO KEYS OR ONLY 1 PREPROGRAMMED KEY AND
YOU NEED TO PROGRAM MORE KEYS:
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST USE A FACTORY KEY TO PROGRAM, YOU CANNOT USE
AFTERMARKETS KEYS FOR THIS PROCEDURE. (NO JET, NO ILCO, NO SILCA, NO CURTIS)
2. Insert the first key and turn the ignition to the ON position and then back to the LOCK position, five
times. You cannot leave the key in the ON or LOCK position for more than one second.
3. Turn the key back to the ON position and watch the flashing security light on the dash. The light
should flash rapidly, 300 milliseconds on and 300 milliseconds off.
4. Within 20 seconds, turn the key to the LOCK position for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes the security light
should decrease in flashing to 1.2 seconds between flashes.
5. Within 20 seconds, enter the CODEWORD (password). (See “How to enter the CODEWORD”, NEXT
PAGE.)
6. When you have entered the CODEWORD, the security light should stay on and not flash.
7. The car should now start. Start the car and the security light should stay lit for between 1 to 2 seconds.
8. Within 20 seconds, remove the first key and insert the second key and start the car. The security light
should stay lit for between 1 to 2 seconds.
© 2004 - MICHAEL HYDE - ASP, INC., TCODE USA USERS MANUAL WEB DOWNLOAD - SEPT 28, 2004
HOW TO ENTER THE CODEWORD (PASSWORD):
The CODEWORD can be obtained by retrieving the serial number off the Immobilizer Unit and contacting
the Mazda National Hotline through the dealer. The CODEWORD has eight numbers.
1. Before you start the security light on the dash should be flashing on and off for 1.2 seconds each.
3. Turn the ignition key to the ON position while the security light is not illuminated. Count the illumination
flashes two times and while the light is not illuminated turn the key to the LOCK position.
4. Within 30 seconds of turning the key to the LOCK position, turn the ignition key to the ON position while
the security light is not illuminated. Count the illumination flashes three times and while the light is not
illuminated turn the key to the LOCK position.
6. If you have entered the CODEWORD correctly, the security light will stop flashing and stay illuminated. If
you make a mistake just wait 45 seconds and start over.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
A. The ignition key should not be turned ON twice within one non-illumination cycle.
C. The ignition key should not be turned to LOCK twice within one non-illumination cycle.
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST USE A FACTORY KEY TO PROGRAM, YOU CANNOT USE
AFTERMARKETS KEYS FOR THIS PROCEDURE. (NO JET, NO ILCO, NO SILCA, NO CURTIS)
2. Insert the first pre-programmed key and turn the ignition to the ON position and then back to the LOCK
position, five times. You cannot leave the key in the ON or LOCK position for more than one second.
3. Turn the first pre-programmed key back to the ON position, the security light should stay illuminated.
4. Turn the first pre-programmed key back to the LOCK position, the security light should not be
illuminated.
5. Insert the second pre-programmed key and start the car. The security light should illuminate for 1 to 2
seconds. Turn the key to the LOCK position and remove.
6. Insert the first pre-programmed key and start the car. The security light should illuminate for 1 to 2
seconds. Turn the key to the LOCK position and remove.
7. Insert the next pre-programmed key or a new un-programmed key and start the car. The security light
should illuminate for 1 to 2 seconds. Turn the key to the LOCK position and remove. Repeat the step for
any additional keys, not to exceed 8 keys.

Special Note for
Mitsubishi Keys
There was a change in transponder chips being used in Mitsubishi built vehicles in
2001.
The change affected all Mitsubishi products across the board. The newer chip can
be identified on Eclipse & Galant by the letter “N” stamped on the upper portion of
the blade.
Transponder Keys for Eclipse & Galant with the letter “R” stamped on them have
proven to be unreliable for programming.
Transponder keys with the letter “N” will work in place (supersede) of the earlier let-
ter “R” keys.
2004 Galant keys should have an “A” stamped on the blade and use Strattec
692020.
Diamante, Montero & Montero Sport have a “Dot” stamped into the blade if they
have the newer chip.
Important Notice:
All keys must be present for key programming or they will be erased
during the programming procedure.
© 2004 - MICHAEL HYDE - ASP, INC., TCODE USA USERS MANUAL WEB DOWNLOAD - SEPT 28, 2004
Special Note for
You must cut all keys you want to program into the vehicle.
Communication Errors
A few Mitsubishi models have been found to have irregularities in the way
the T-CODE communicates with the Immobilizer system.
ADC 129
© 2004 - MICHAEL HYDE - ASP, INC., TCODE USA USERS MANUAL WEB DOWNLOAD - SEPT 28, 2004
Most Mitsubishi OBD2 connectors are located directly next
to the center console underneath the dash, to the right of the
steering column. In may involve using a flashlight to locate it.
Special Note -
On some models it may be necessary to insert the transponder key
into the ignition and turn to the RUN position before connecting the
T-CODE USA to the car or truck for key programming.

In the past there have been problems programming keys on 2000 Nissan
Altima cars. The problem involves an attempt to program keys resulting in
a damaged electronic module of the car, requiring repair of the car by the
dealer.
We have not heard of any other Nissan models or other years of Nissan
Altima having a similar problem.

that PIN Code for the vehicle it never changes.

A PIN code is needed for Infiniti-Nissan models using a System 4 in the U.S. through
2002. This PIN code is the same (5523) on all current models through 2002.
Some new models now use a random PIN code. This is done by converting the BCM
(Body Control Module) identification number to a PIN. The BCM is located next to the
fuse panel. The dealer uses a software program called “ASSIST” to convert the BCM
code. This new random PIN code may also be incorporated into new models as they
come out.
Infiniti-Nissan models using a System 4 in the U.S. will use the standard OBD2 cable and
no adapter.
Important Note: You must have all existing keys present, if you want them to continue to

2003 M45 & Q45 PIN CODES
