Turbo Generator
Overview - B.H.E.L

BHEL is the largest engineering

&manufacturing enterprise in India.

Established 40 years ago.

Earns profits continuously since 1971-72,&
paying dividends since 1976-77

GENRATOR
MW
Sailentfeature of TurboGenrator

Rated output : 588 MVA,500 MW

Terminal voltage : 21 KV

Rated stator current : 16 KA

Rated frequency : 50 Hz

Rated power factor : 0.85 Lag

Efficiency : 98.55%
TurboGenrator
 Turbo generator consists of following parts:

o STATOR
o ROTOR
o BEARINGS
o SHAFT BEARINGS

 Other additional auxiliaries:

o Excitation system
Stator
Stator frame
Stator core
Stator winding
End shields
Terminal bushing
Phase connector
Hydrozencooler
Statorframe

 Stator body is a totally enclosed gas tight fabricated

structure made up of high quality mild steel

 At top of the stator frame U-shape pipe is situated

which are used to flow of water for cooling .
Stator Core

 The laminated core made by cold rolled high quality

silicon steel

 It is stacked with lamination segments & Segments

are assembled in an interleaved manner from layer

to layer for uniform permeability.

Stator Winding

 The stator has a three phase, double layer, short

pitched and bar type of windings having two parallel
paths

 Each bar consist of hollow conductor with cooling

water passing through the latter.

 Bhelused to epoxy mica thermosetting insulation for

stator bars.
VaccumPressureImpregration

 In 1956 Dr. MEYER has brought this system.

 In this process preheating,impregration,postcuring&

electrical testing are done.

 It remove the penetrating air pockets in the winding.

Rotor

 Rotor shaft
 Rotor winding
 Rotor wedges
 Rotor retaining rings
 Field connections
 Fans
Rotor shaft

 Rotor shaft is a single piece solid forging

manufactured from a vacuum casting.

 Thelongnitudnalslots are distributed over

thecircumfrence
Rotor winding

 The rotor winding distributed symmetrical in the rotor

pole

 The winding itself is made up of many turns of

copper .

 All of the turns associated with a single slot are

called a coil.
RetaningRing
RetaningRing

 The overhang portion of the field winding is held by non-magnetic steel forging of retaining against centrifugal
forces.

 They are shrink fitted to the ends of the rotor body at one end.
 The other side of retaining ring does not make contact with the shaft .
 To reduce stray losses, the retaining rings are made of non-magnetic, austenitic steel and cold worked,
resulting in high mechanical strength.
Fans

 The generator cooling gas is circulated by two single

stage axial flow propeller type fans.
 The fans are shrink fitted on either side of rotor body.
 Fan hubs are made of alloy steel.
 Fan blades which are precision castings with special
alloy are machined in the tall portion.
