different private network to communicate with Storage Center iSCSI ports on a private network behind a
router that performs Network Address Translation (NAT). NAT port forwarding can be configured
independently for each iSCSI fault domain.
Data Compression
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 adds management support for Data Compression, which is available for
Storage Centers with SC8000 controllers running version 6.5 or later. To reduce the impact of compression
on read and write operations, a limited amount of data is eligible for compression. When tier 3 data is frozen
after a Replay and new data is written over it, it is eligible for compression. Data compression runs daily as
part of Data Progression.
Dell Compellent 2
Non-Disruptive Replication Type and Mode Changes
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 adds management support to change the replication type and synchronization
mode for existing replications with no service interruption.
The source and destination Storage Centers must be running version 6.5 or later.
When the mode for a synchronous replication is changed, the replication temporarily becomes
unsynchronized.
Disk Management
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 introduces management support for Storage Center disks, RAID, and Storage
Types.
IO Ports
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 introduces management support for Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and SAS IO ports.
Fault Domains
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 introduces management support for fault domains. Front‐end ports are
categorized into fault domains that identify allowed port movement when a controller reboots or a port
fails. Ports that belong to the same fault domain can fail over to each other because they have connectivity
to the same resources.
The iSCSI Multi‐VLAN Tagging and iSCSI NAT Port Forwarding features introduced by Storage Center
version 6.5 are managed at the fault domain level.
Dell Compellent 3
Directory Service Authentication Enhancements
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 introduces the following directory service authentication enhancements.
FluidFS Enhancements
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 introduces the following management features for FluidFS version 3.0 clusters.
Dell Compellent 4
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 also adds an Import to Lowest Tier option that can be used during data
migration. Migrating large amounts of data to the FluidFS cluster can cause Storage Center upper storage
tiers to fill up, reducing write performance for other applications. If you plan to migrate data from another
NAS product to the FluidFS cluster, enabling the Import to Lowest Tier option allows you to temporarily
configure the NAS volumes to write data to the lowest tier defined in the Storage Profile configured for the
NAS volumes without waiting for Data Progression to move the data.
Folder Browsing for CIFS Home Shares, NFS Exports, and Anti-Virus Scanning
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 expands folder browsing capabilities for FluidFS clusters. Enterprise Manager
2014 R2 adds the ability to browse the directory and select an existing folder or create a new folder to share
when creating CIFS home shares or modifying NFS exports. Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 also adds the
ability to browse the directory and select an existing folder to exclude from anti‐virus scanning for a CIFS
share.
Note: JRE 1.8 is not supported.
Database Support
Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 removes support for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and MySQL 5.0.
Dell Compellent 5

Known Issues
The following known issues are present in Enterprise Manager 2014 R2.
Issue Description
CQ00392570 Restarting a failed managed replication removes the Live Volume that manages it. The primary and
secondary volumes are not removed so data is not lost.
Workaround: Avoid this scenario by deleting and recreating the managed replication instead of
restarting it.
If the managed replication has been restarted and the Live Volume has been removed, recreate the Live
Volume.
1 Remove all mappings to the original secondary volume.
2 Create a replication between the original primary volume and the original secondary volume.
3 Convert the replication to a Live Volume. The restarted replication is automatically managed by the
Live Volume.
CQ00392019 When a Live Volume that manages a replication is restored using a remote Data Collector with the
Recover Live Volume option selected, the restore point for the managed replication incorrectly changes
state to No Source Volume.
Workaround: Bring the primary site back online, then use the primary Data Collector to save restore
points.
CQ00391791 For iSCSI fault domains in virtual port mode, a gateway IP address must be specified.
Workaround: For iSCSI networks that do not have a gateway, enter a fictional gateway IP address in a
network to which the Storage Center is not connected.
CQ00391414 The automated Replications report truncates the Source Volume field for volumes that have more than
23 continuous characters with no spaces or dashes.
Workaround: None.
CQ00391230 When creating multiple replications or Live Volumes simultaneously, correcting a configuration error
and resuming the process can create duplicate replications or Live Volumes.
Workaround: If a creation operation fails, do not use the wizard to correct the configuration error and
continue. Instead, exit and restart the wizard, then resume creating replications or Live Volumes from
the point of failure.
CQ00390832 If more than 32 Storage Center controllers are interconnected, when configuring a replication or Live
Volume, Enterprise Manager incorrectly prompts the user to configure iSCSI connectivity between
Storage Centers that already have connectivity. The resulting replication or Live Volume is non‐
functional.
Workaround: Reduce the number of interconnected Storage Center controllers to 32 or less.
CQ00390417 Activating DR simultaneously for multiple restore points fails if one of the corresponding volume names
is 64 characters or longer.
Workaround: Activate DR for the problematic restore point individually.
1 Right‐click the restore point and select Activate Disaster Recovery.
2 In the Name field, delete characters to shorten the name below the 64 character limit.
3 Modify the other settings as needed, then click OK.
CQ00386285 If the Client is connected to the Data Collector and left idle for a long period of time, the Client can lose
connectivity and display the message Error setting up connection: Unable to create StAX reader or
writer.
Workaround: Close the Client, then start the Client and reconnect to the Data Collector.
Dell Compellent 12

CQ00381559 Error retrieving certificate from the Data Collector.
Workaround: Download and install the hotfix provided by Microsoft at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2577795.
CQ00381417 The Client displays an error when the Windows Classic theme is applied on the host computer
Workaround: None.
CQ00371429 After a Storage Center goes down and comes back online, a primary or remote Data Collector fails to
reconnect to the Storage Center.
Workaround:
• Primary Data Collector: In the Client, select the Storage Center, then click Reconnect to Storage
Center.
• Remote Data Collector: On the remote Data Collector, use Data Collector Manager to restart the Data
Collector service.
CQ00367263 When Storage Center System Manager is started from the Enterprise Manager Client, System Manager
does not display attributes and Replay history for replicated volumes.
Workaround: Use a web browser to start System Manager by connecting to the Storage Center host
name or IP address.
CQ00365518 If a Storage Center is added to Enterprise Manager using IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, Enterprise Manager
displays duplicate entries for the Storage Center.
Workaround: None.
CQ00363307 Storage Center System Manager cannot be started from the Enterprise Manager Client when another
user is logged in to the same computer and using System Manager.
Workaround: Use a web browser to start System Manager by connecting to the Storage Center host
name or IP address.
CQ00362311 The Data Collector fails to start if TCP port 8085 is already in use on the host server. When the Data
Collector is running, other applications cannot use port 8085.
Workaround: Configure the Data Collector to use a different port.
1 Use Data Collector Manager to stop the Data Collector service.
2 Use a text editor to open the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Compellent Technologies\Compellent
Enterprise Manager\msaservice\conf\domain.xml.cml.
3 Search for the text <network‐listener port=ʺ8085ʺ and change 8085 to an unused port.
4 Save the text file, then use Data Collector Manager to start the Data Collector service.
CQ00358071 The Client incorrectly reports port speed for Emulex HBAs.
Workaround: None.
CQ00348648 Registering a VMware vCenter Server with Enterprise Manager fails intermittently.
Workaround: None.
Dell Compellent 13
Issue Description
CQ00342462 On 32‐bit Windows servers, attempting to upgrade a Server Agent from 6.1 or earlier to version 2014 R2
fails and displays an error.
Workaround: Uninstall the existing Server Agent before installing the 2014 R2 Server Agent.
CQ00338996 When a cluster volume is selected on the Servers view, under some circumstances the wrong Storage
Center volume is displayed.
Workaround: None.
CQ00334074 If the Data Collector is installed or upgraded to 2014 R2 before Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7 is
installed, logging on with the Client using Windows session credentials (Use Windows Credentials
check box) does not work.
Workaround:
1 Uninstall the Data Collector.
2 Install both the 32‐bit and 64‐bit versions of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.
3 Reinstall the Data Collector.
CQ00333016 When Enterprise Manager 6.4 or later manages a Storage Center running 6.3.10–6.4.x, the Storage Center
logs TYPE_MAPPINGHOSTCACHEGLOBAL errors intermittently. This error does not affect Storage
Center operations.
Workaround: None.
CQ00327971 The Client fails to display correctly on a 32‐bit version of Windows when an early version of JRE 1.6 is

Known Issues Related to SMI-S and Microsoft SCVMM 2012
The following issues have been reported for Enterprise Manager version 2014 R2 in relation to SMI‐S and
Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2012.
Issue Description
CQ00390707 If the Client Listener Port was changed from the default (TCP port 7342) during Enterprise Manager
installation, SCVMM 2012 fails to discover the Dell Compellent SMI‐S Provider.
Workaround: Contact Dell Technical Support Services for assistance.
CQ00372907 SMI‐S logs rapidly grow in size if every CIM_XML request is individually authenticated.
Workaround: Disable logging for SMI‐S on the Data Collector.
1 Stop the Data Collector service.
2 Use a text editor to open the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Compellent Technologies\Compellent
Enterprise Manager\msaservice\conf\cimserver_base.conf.
3 Change enableAuditLog=true to enableAuditLog=false.
4 Start the Data Collector service.
CQ00343869 When SMI‐S is enabled, upgrading the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from 1.6 to 1.7 or downgrading
from 1.7 to 1.6 creates an issue that prevents SCVMM 2012 from discovering the Dell Compellent SMI‐S
provider.
Workaround:
1 Stop the Data Collector service.
2 Delete the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Compellent Technologies\Compellent Enterprise
Manager\msaservice\Pegasus.
3 Start the Data Collector service.
4 Recreate the SMI‐S user.
5 If the Data Collector is configured to use HTTPS for SMI‐S connections, associate the SSL certificate
with the SMI‐S user.
CQ00292578 If the password for the SMI‐S user account is longer than 8 characters, SCVMM 2012 fails to discover the
Dell Compellent SMI‐S Provider.
Workaround: Create passwords that have 8 characters or less.
CQ00254350 Mapping volumes from Microsoft SCVMM 2012 to a cluster uses server mappings instead of cluster
mappings.
Workaround: After provisioning a cluster volume with SCVMM 2012, use Enterprise Manager to
promote the server mapping to a cluster mapping.
CQ00222093 When using scripted PowerShell cmdlets to perform management operations on large numbers of
objects, SCVMM errors might occur.
Workaround:
• Update Microsoft SCVMM 2012 by installing Update Rollup 1 for System Center 2012.

Known Issues Related to VMware vCenter SRM 5.x
The following issues have been reported for Enterprise Manager 2014 R2 in relation to VMware vCenter
Site Recovery Manager (SRM) 5.x.
Issue Description
CQ00391159 When aliases are defined for Storage Center Fibre Channel ports, testing or running a recovery plan
generates the error Found invalid WWN in discoverDevices response. Valid WWN contains 8 or 16
pairs of hexadecimal digits separated with colons. This error is cosmetic and does not interfere with
recovery.
Workaround: Remove aliases from Storage Center Fibre Channel ports.
CQ00266544 If the protected site has Storage Centers running version 6 or later and the recovery site has Storage
Centers running version 5.5 or earlier, ESX hosts at the recovery site fail to mount VMFS5 datastores and
log the error Host does not support ATS or ATS initialization has failed in the local
vmkernel.log file.
Workaround: Disable HardwareAcceleratedLocking (ATS) for each ESX host at both sites as described
in VMware Knowledge Base article 2006858, then recreate the replications.
CQ00201044 SRM 5.0 crashes during the Change Recovery Site Storage to Writeable step during failback.
Workaround: Upgrade SRM to version 5.1 or later.
CQ00198375 SRM 5.0 process crashes when creating a recovery plan on a recovery site after a protected site disaster.
Workaround: Upgrade SRM to version 5.1 or later.
CQ00198020 Storage Center version 5.5.4 or earlier: When a reprotect is not performed promptly after recovering
from a planned migration with VMware SRM 5.0, hosts running VMware ESX 4.1 Update 1 attempt to
write to LUNs that are read‐only, causing /var/log on the hosts to begin filling up. Eventually the hosts
become unresponsive and disconnect from VMware vCenter.
Workaround: Upgrade Storage Center to version 5.5.6 or later.
If you cannot upgrade your Storage Center:
1 Run reprotect as soon as possible after running recovery. The reprotect fails to complete.
2 If the ESX host disconnects from vCenter, perform the following steps:
a Check /var/log partition space and delete unneeded vmkernel logs if necessary.
b Reconnect to the ESX host with vCenter.
3 Run the reprotect again with force clean‐up selected.
4 Restore placeholders for the ESX 4.1 update 1 host virtual machines.
5 Delete the *‐tmp placeholders from the new recovery site.

Upgrading to Enterprise Manager 2014 R2
Upgrade the Data Collector, Clients, and Server Agents to version 2014 R2.
Note: Dell Compellent recommends upgrading the Server Agents. However, previous versions of
the Server Agent continue to work with the new version of the Data Collector.
Prerequisites
The Data Collector being upgraded must be running version 5.4 or later.
The server that hosts the Data Collector must be running a 64‐bit operating system. If the Data Collector is
installed on a 32‐bit server, see Migrating a Data Collector from 32‐bit to 64‐bit on page 20.
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7 Update 45 or later must be installed on the server that hosts the Data
Collector and the computer(s) that host the Client. JRE 1.8 is not supported.
Note: If the Data Collector is running version 6.3.4 or earlier, the host server must have JRE 1.7
Update 20 (or earlier) installed. When JRE 1.7 Update 21 (or later) is installed, the Data Collector
cannot be stopped, started, uninstalled, or upgraded. Upgrade the Data Collector to 2014 R1
before installing JRE 1.7 Update 45, then upgrade to 2014 R2.
For each managed Storage Center, the Storage Center certificate must contain the host name or
management IP address used to add the Storage Center to Enterprise Manager. For instructions on
regenerating an SSL certificate, see the Storage Center Administrator’s Guide.
If you are upgrading from version 5.x, all reports that you want to retain must be exported to PDF and
saved externally. Reports generated by version 5.x are not viewable in the Client after upgrading to version
6.x or later.
Steps
1 Download the latest Enterprise Manager Data Collector software.
a Go to support.dell.com/compellent.
b Log on to the customer or partner portal.
c Click Knowledge Center, then download the Enterprise Manager Data Collector Setup file.
2 Upgrade the primary Enterprise Manager Data Collector.
a Unzip the Enterprise Manager Data Collector Setup file.
b Run the Enterprise Manager Data Collector Setup file to upgrade the Data Collector.

c If you upgraded from a 5.x version, delete the old Data Collector Manager desktop icon and Start
Menu item that were left behind by the upgrade.
3 If you are using a remote Data Collector, repeat Step 2 on the server that hosts the remote Data Collector.
4 Upgrade all Enterprise Manager Clients on Windows workstations.
a Use the Enterprise Manager Client to connect to the upgraded Data Collector.
b When you are prompted, download and install the new Enterprise Manager Client.
c If you upgraded from a 5.x version, delete the old Client desktop icon and Start Menu item that were
left behind by the upgrade.
Note: If Remember Password is selected when you start the updated Client, clear the Password
field and re‐enter the correct password before you connect to the Data Collector.
Dell Compellent 19
5 Upgrade the Enterprise Manager Server Agents on all Windows servers.
a Download the updated Server Agent Installer from the Data Collector website. Do not use the
CHECK FOR UPGRADE option in the Server Agent Manager to perform the upgrade.
b Run the Server Agent Installer to install the updated version.
Note: If you upgrade a Server Agent from version 5.x, the host server is rebooted. To prevent
a reboot, uninstall the Server Agent before installing Enterprise Manager 2014 R2.
c If you upgraded from a 5.x version, delete the old Server Agent desktop icon and Start Menu item
that were left behind by the upgrade.
