5. Q 24 – Q 26 are of 5 mark each.

1. When a lamp is connected to an alternative voltage supply, it light with same brightness as when
connected to a 12 V D.C battery .What is the peak value of alternative voltage source?
2. Draw graph to show variation in resistivity of copper with temperature.
3. Find resistance of a carbon resistor marked with red, black, brown and golden colour bands.
4. What is the phase difference between the voltage across an inductor and a capacitor in an AC
circuit?

5. A rectangular loop and a circular loop are moving out of a MF to a field free region with a
constant velocity. It is given that the field is normal to the plane of both the loops. In which case
induced EMF expected to be constant?

6. Derive relation for energy density in a capacitor.

7. The figure is a hemisphere with a flat face and curved surface both of radius R.

A charge Q is situated just above the centre of the flat face. Find the electric flux by Gauss law (i) through
the curved surface (ii) through the flat face?

8. A wire is stretched to increase its length by 30%. Find percentage change in its resistance.
OR

I  V characteristics of a copper wire of length l and area A is as shown. Will the slope increase or
decrease when

(i) length of the wire is increased.

(ii) area of the wire is increased.


9. An aircraft with a wingspan of 30 m flies with a speed of 720 km/h horizontally. The horizontal
component of earth’s magnetic field is 2 x 10-4 T and dip angle is 45o. Find the EMF induced
across the wings.
10. Justify the statement that EP is constant throughout the volume of a charged conductor and has
the same value on its surface as inside it.

11. Write the expression for force acting on a charge particle of charge q moving with velocity v in a
uniform magnetic filed B. Show that in the presence of this force:
i) the kinetic energy of the particle does not change.
ii) the instantaneous power is zero.

12. What are eddy currents? How they can be minimized? Write its two applications.
13. Figure below shows the circular path of two particles that travel at the same speed in a uniform
magnetic field B which is directed into the plane of the paper. One proton and the other is an
electron (which is less massive)

(a) Which particle follows the smaller circle


(b)In which sense will an electron travel along the circular path?
(c) Give reasons for your answer in each case.
14. Electromagnetic waves with wavelength
(i) λ1 are used to treat muscular strain

(ii) λ2 are used by FM radio station for broadcasting

(iii) λ3 are used to detect fracture in bones

(iv) λ4 are absorbed by the ozone layer of the atmosphere


a) Identify and name the part of the electromagnetic spectrum to which these radiation belong.
b) Arrange these wavelengths in decreasing order of magnitude.

15. The capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor is 50pF and the distance between the plates is 4mm. It is
charged to 200V and then the charging battery is removed. Now a dielectric slab (K = 4) of thickness 2mm
is placed. Determine (i) final charge on each plate 9ii) final PD between the plates (iii) final energy in the
capacitor and (iv) energy loss.
16. A chargeable cell of EMF 4V and internal resistance 1 ohm is being charged by a supply of
20V through a series resistance of 31ohm. Draw the circuit diagram and find terminal potential
difference across cell of 4 volt.

17. A rectangular loop of sides 25 cm and 10 cm carrying a current of 15 A is placed with


its longer side parallel to a long straight conductor 2 cm away from it as shown. What is the
net force on loop?

18. The susceptibility of a magnetic material is -0.5853.


(a) Identify the type of magnetic material.
(b) Draw the modification of field pattern on placing this material in a uniform field.
(c) How will the answer to part b change if the susceptibility of the material is- 1?
OR
Bars A, B and C, made from there different types of materials, are put one by one, in a non
Uniform magnetic field. While bars B and C tend to move from the weak to the strong field region,
bar A tends to move from the strong to the weak field region. The effect, observed in bar C is much
stronger, that observed in bar B. Identify the class of materials to which, the three belong.
Show, with the help of diagrams, the behavior of field lines due to external uniform magnetic field
near bars A, B and C
19. State Gauss’s theorem in electrostatics and express it mathematically. Using it, derive an
expression for electric field at a point near a thin infinite plane sheet of electric charge.
20 Find the expression for EMF induced across the ends of a rod rotating in magnetic field, pivoted
at its one end.
21.A storage battery of emf 8.0 V and internal resistance 0.5 Ω is being charged by a 120 V dc supply
using a series resistor of 15.5 Ω. What is the terminal voltage of the battery during charging? What is
the purpose of having a series resistor in the charging circuit?

22. An inductor “L” of reactance XL is connected in series with a bulb “B” to an A.C Source as shown
in the figure.

Briefly explain how does the brightness of the bulb change, when
i. Number of turns of the inductor is reduced and
ii. A capacitor of reactance XC= XL is included in the same circuit.
iii. If increase driving frequency f in the circuit, does the current amplitude I increase or stay the same?
(Assume that other factor remain in each case)
23. Ram was playing a cricket with his friends, when ball hit is friend Shyam on his left leg Shyam
screamed with pain. Ram rushed towards him and comforted him and asked him not to move his leg.
He quickly took out his cell phone and called up Shyam’s parents and briefed them about the incident.
In 10 minutes Shyam was taken to the nearby hospital and was examine by the doctor who advised
for X-ray test which conformed a hairline fracture.

a) How are X-ray produced?

b) Mention one more application of X-rays

c) Mention two values displayed by the Ram in the above situation.

24. (i) Define the term electric dipole moment.


(ii) Derive an expression for the total work done in rotating the dipole through an angle Ø in a
uniform electric filed.
(iii) A dipole is aligned parallel to the field. Calculate the work done in rotating it through 180°
Or
(i) A parallel plate capacitor has two identical plates of area A, separated by a distance D. The space
between the plates is filled with a dielectric medium. Derive an expression for the capacitance of
the capacitor.

(ii) A slab of material of dielectric constant K has the same area as the plates of a parallel plate
capacitor but has a thickness (3/4)d, where d is the separation between the plates. How is the
capacitance changed when the slab is inserted between the plates?

25 Discuss the principle and working of a cyclotron. Derive relation for radius, frequency and
time period of circular path. Write its limitations

Or
(i) Discuss the principle and working of a moving coil galvanometer.
(ii) The current sensitivity of a galvanometer is increased by 20%, when its resistance is doubled.
Calculate by what factor voltage sensitivity will change?
26. An A.C Voltage v =V0 sin wt is applied across a pure inductor. Obtain the expression for the
current flowing in the circuit. Hence write the expression for the instantaneous power supplied by
the voltage source to the inductor. Show that the average power, supplied over a complete cycle, is
zero.

Or

Find the inductance of the inductor in series with bulb of resistance 10 ohm connected to an A.C.
source of 80V, 50 Hz if the power factor of the circuit is 0.5. Also calculate the power dissipation in the
circuit.
