The MST (Mentor School Teacher) will use this form to formally observe the trainee’s performance and to give feedback based on the
selected teaching competencies.
Managing Learning
Comments:
- The lesson was started very assertively – great!
- The students are extremely well behaved during the learning activity (they even encourage each
other to whisper when they speak!!!)
- Maryam reminds students that they have 2 minutes left to complete the worksheet.
- Maryam effectively uses many strategies to manage behaviour (not sure about encouraging them
with promise of chocolate though! – It’s a strategy, but not one that should be used too often!!)
- “Class class” ; “Yes yes” – works great!
- Students listen to Maryam and immediately adhere to her requests.
- Plants/cups are well managed: Maryam asks students to place them in specifics spots.
- Maryam STOPS the lesson (good!) and corrects behaviour of a few students who are being loud.
Maryam does a very good job regaining order 😊
Implementing Learning
Comment:
- “What did you learn from the video?”, asks Maryam.
She receives many good responses. Well done.
- Maryam repeats the key brainstormed information and sends students back to their groups.
- Make sure you get the students SPEAKING as much as possible (every time there is an opportunity for
them to speak in English).
- Maryam gives clear, concise and well sequenced instructions.
- Students are given a worksheet to do. Maryam says “if you have a question, raise your hand and ask
me”. Great.
See back
- The worksheets seem to be level appropriate: not too easy and not too challenging either. The
pictures displayed on the screen (at the front of the class) are a great help 😊😊😊
- Repeat instructions more than once, and also ask students to repeat them.
- Hands on learning activity: students are super happy and excited to be planting seeds.
- 2nd worksheet was lacking some teaching. There was a learning opportunity to be exploited there - an
opportunity for higher order questioning and higher order thinking. The concept of prediction could
have been better exploited.
- Try to PUSH the students more!! Ask high order questions. Introduce challenging concepts (like
‘prediction’) and support students to make sense of these concepts.
- No plenary????
Assessment
Comments:
- Maryam says she will adequately assess students according to the worksheets
Reflection on Practice
Comments:
- Maryam was able to reflect on the challenges experienced during her lesson. We decided that she
would try to ‘push’ (or stretch) the students a bit more whenever there is an opportunity to do so.
