Company description
Provide background information about your company, such as its age and location. It’s also a
good idea to include your mission statement in this section, so that your reader will have a
better understanding of what your company does.

Teatime was founded 10 years ago by Greg and Joanna Johnson, a husband and wife team. It
is located in the center of Seattle, a ten- to fifteen-minute walk away from most schools,
businesses, and attractions in the area.

Mission statement: To provide high-quality organic food and beverages to our customers while
maintaining a comfortable, collaborative space where people of all ages can read and learn.

Products and services

Describe in detail what you sell or what service you offer.

There are cafes, and there are bookstores. Teatime is a combination of the two.

Our sandwiches, soups, and baked goods are made in-house with ingredients grown at Sweet
Willow Farm, located less than two hours outside of Seattle. Our coffee beans come directly
from Coffee Now!, a fair-trade collective in Argentina, which partners with independently-owned
coffee shops.

We also house over 600 used books, donated by local charities and libraries. Customers are
encouraged to take or leave books as they see fit.

Market research
Explain the industry in which your company operates. Who will be your main consumers? How
do your competitors operate, and what can you do to stand out?

Our business is a fusion between traditional bookstores and cafes.

Our customer base varies greatly—we appeal to students (high school through graduate school)
as well as book collectors, coffee aficionados, and older people looking to enjoy a great book
and a delicious meal.

Our main competitors are larger conglomerates that offer patrons both food and literature. We
stand out from the rest on two fronts:
● We serve a large variety of delicious home-cooked food.
● Our books are not for sale. Instead, customers are encouraged to borrow our offerings
indefinitely, or bring us their own used books.
Marketing and sales
Describe how you will attract customers to your business, and how you will sell your products.

We attract customers mainly through forms of social media. Our patrons can communicate
directly with us through these platforms, and through this medium we are able to quickly
respond to requests for books, questions about the food, or any problems.

Once a month, we hold a Literature Trivia Night. The winner gets one free meal and his or her
picture put up on the wall behind the cafe.
