INDUSTRIAL COLLABORATION

Industrial visits and Industrial training are undertaken as a part of effective implementation
of the curriculum. Students are encouraged to take internship program during their semester
break. Faculty members give their guidelines, suggestions and contact details of an
internship. They also help the students by interacting with the industrial experts, provide the
students recommendation letters and other necessary supports.

To develop interest in becoming a part of core industry of instrumentation sector, we

promote the industry visits/internships in small groups. This is also to see that students gather

BEST PRACTICES

 Graduate Assistantship: M. Tech. graduates who wish to assist lab in UG programs

are selected based on an interview and are assigned with the relevant labs with
stipend.
 Professional Association (ISOI) activities: Open interaction during the chapter
meeting with senior executives of major industries like FACT, HOCL, BPCL, TCC,
Cochin Shipyard, faculty of many academic institutions and students of RSET.
Annual student competitions and seminars jointly organized by department of AEI
are conducted regularly. Association chapter often conducts invited talks in the latest
trends in Industrial Automation.
 Major and mini project EXPOs for students: All the projects done by students
were exhibited and evaluated appropriately by experts from academia/ industries and
feedbacks were given to them. This was a motivation for the students to showcase
their projects and its performance. This opportunity was also used to ignite the minds
of junior students.

APPLIED ELECTRONICS & INSTRUMENTATION

 Exhibition from industries: Major industries like HOCL, Graphene Automation

exhibited their instrument system for the benefit of all students in AEI department
and demonstrated its functioning.
 Remedial classes/Mentoring system: Weak students are identified on their basis of
their class evaluations/tests and through proper mentoring process. The outcomes are
also achieved through peer mentoring, where a team is formed involving students of
higher capabilities.
 Industrial visits by faculty members: To be aware of the practices in industry, we
often conduct Industrial visits to nearby industries during our semester break. This
will be an additional input to the faculty members to be delivered to the students for
their career development.
 Industrial training for students: As part of curriculum students are expected to have
training in various industries relevant to instrumentation. Over and above certain
students do undertake industrial training whenever they come across opportunities
due to our interaction with industry experts/professional bodies
 Industrial visits/internships for students in small groups: To develop interest in
becoming a part of core industry of instrumentation sector, we promote the industry
visits/internships in small groups. This is also to see that students gather more
information out of their curiosity which is possible in small groups. Faculties also
accompany the students during such occasion and get benefited.
 Industry oriented projects: This is an opportunity to work in industrial atmosphere,
thereby have first-hand information about the activities in the industry too.
 Research Groups and activities: We have three research groups mainly Process
control, Instrumentation Design & Development and Biomedical Instrumentation &
Signal Processing. Faculty members are part of each of these groups and they do have
discussion to bring out list of probable projects to be conducted by the students.
Students are assigned projects on this basis so that every member of a particular
group can guide the students. We have also interdisciplinary Research Areas
including Bio Instruments Research and Development Society (BIRDS) and Speech
& Accoustics, Image Processing. It is a forum for professionals in the fields of
