The forest and peatland fires and smog, billed the worst in Indonesian history, still dominated media headlines this week,

Forestry and Environment Ministry to stop issuing new permits for peatland cultivation for monoculture, restore damage

and deep peat or any peat area into monoculture plantations, such as acacia for pulp and oil palm plantations.
Recent research by forest scientists at the Bogor, West Java-based Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR)
found that peat swamps in their natural state are resistant to fire because they are wet underground, but they can be highly
flammable when they dry out and are degraded.

The Jakarta-based Human Rights Working Group (HRWG) hopes the upcoming meeting between the Indonesian
government and a United Nations committee on migrant workers will provide momentum for the country to revise its
regulations, it is the protection of migrant workers’ rights.

private recruitment agencies and lacked tight standards in the recruitment process, he said.
The UN committee will hold a dialogue for the first time with Indonesia on September 4 to 6 in Geneva, Switzerland,
regarding the government’s progress in implementing the multilateral convention on migrant worker protection. In April,
