According to the American Counseling Association, counseling is defined as, "a

professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to

accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals." Counseling involves

helping people make needed changes in ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving, and

is a goal-based collaborative process, involving a non-judgmental, supportive

counselor who works with a client in telling his or her story, setting viable goals, and

developing strategies and plans necessary to accomplish these goals. For some people

this process takes a small amount of time, in some cases as little as one or two

sessions; for others, the process may last longer.

An extremely important part of counseling is confidentiality, which means that the

information discussed in session will be accessible only by you and your counselor,

with a few exceptions. (http://www.sfasu.edu/counselingservices/182.asp)

view a group of services, a field of study which we should be required to choose one

of the emphasized service would pre-dominate”. Guidance has different way on

For Traxler, “Guidance is a process of enabling each individual to understand

his abilities and interest to develop them as well as possible and to relate them to

life goals and finally to reach a state of complete and matured self-guidance as a

desirable human element of the social order.” Guidance helps every individual to

achieve a goal which is to have a positive outlook in life.

According to Dunsmoor and Miller, “Guidance is a means of helping

individuals to understand and use wisely the educational, vocational and personal

opportunities they have or can develop and as a form of systematic assistance

whereby students are aided in achieving satisfactory adjustment to school and in

life”. Guidance is the way on helping individuals to be contented.

student, helping him to understand himself, effecting changes in him and in his

environment which will help him to grow and develop as much as possible.”

Guidance helps individual to know himself more.
