Coffee is made from coffee beans, which come from coffee plants grown in tropical regions around the world. The two main types of coffee beans are Arabica and Robusta. Arabica beans have a lower caffeine content and are grown predominantly in Latin America, while Robusta beans have a higher caffeine content and are grown mainly in Africa and Asia. SPX offers advanced technology for coffee extraction, drying, and processing that helps coffee producers increase yields and quality while reducing costs. Their equipment and services benefit global coffee producers.

COFFEE
 FOREIGN BRAND: Nescafe
 RAW MATERIALS: Coffee beans and water are the basic ingredients used to make
coffee, but there are as many ways to make coffee as there are coffee drinkers. You can
use more or less water, use semi skimmed milk, you can make it frothy, add sprinkling
cocoa powder or cinnamon. All NESCAFE coffees are made with 100% pure coffee beans.
Including their ready-made coffee mixes and mixtures. They also contain other
ingredients such as whitener and sugar, which are commonly added to coffee.
 Where does your coffee come from?
Commercial coffee is grown in an area between the Tropics of Cancer and.
Capricorn affectionately known as the “bean belt.” Coffee is made from coffee beans. Coffee
beans come from the coffee plant, a large shrub or bush. Beans are found in the center of
coffee cherries, the fruit that grows on coffee plants. Coffee plants grow all over the world,
particularly in Central/South America, Africa, and Asia.

 COFFEE BEANS:
ROBUSTA-- is grown exclusively in the Eastern Hemisphere, primarily in
Africa and Indonesia. The largest producer is Vietnam.
ARABICA --is also grown in Africa and Papua New Guinea, but it’s grown
dominantly in Latin America. Colombia only produces Arabica beans.
Some countries, like Brazil and India, produce both.
Coffee producing countries:

2. Vietnam
3. Colombia
4. Indonesia
5. Ethiopia
6. India
7. Honduras

9. What role does SPX play in the global coffee industry?
SPX offers advanced coffee extraction technology, various aroma recovery systems,
extract concentration and spray drying plants for instant coffee production. We are
also a leading global supplier of freeze drying technology to the coffee processing
industry.
In the production of instant coffee, coffee extract is produced by extracting the roast
and ground coffee with hot water in high-yield percolators. After the extraction
process, the aromas are recovered and the coffee extract is concentrated under gentle
conditions, followed by either spray drying into a powder or freeze drying into a
granule. When applied to the production of instant coffee, our extraction technology is
designed to achieve both, a very high yield and a superior extract quality from the
roast and ground coffee, which improves efficiencies and profit per ton.
We also provide modernization and retro-fitting services for existing coffee production
plants in an effort to help them not only enhance the quality of their instant coffee
products, but also to help them reduce water consumption and energy costs
associated with the production process.

How are SPX technologies beneficial to coffee producers?

SPX offers advanced extraction technologies to obtain high production yields

and premium coffee extract from the beans. This is important technology to the major
global producers in the instant coffee market. We are also recognized for delivering
well-engineered solutions for extract concentration and spray drying. Many of today’s
smaller instant coffee producers are looking for advanced extraction technology.
Where does it come from?
The words caffeine and coffee are both derived from the Arabic word qahweh (pronounced
“kahveh” in Turkish). The origins of the words reflect the spread of coffee into Europe via Arabia
and Turkey from northeast Africa, where coffee trees were cultivated in the sixth century. Coffee
began to be popular in Europe in the 17th century. By the 18th century, plantations had been
established in Indonesia and the West Indies, and by the 20th century coffee had become the
biggest cash crop on earth.
Caffeine was first isolated from coffee in 1819. It is also found in tea; in cacao pods, and hence in
cocoa and chocolate products; in kola nuts, used in the preparation of cola drinks; in the ilex plant,
from whose leaves the popular South American beverage yerba mate is prepared; and in guarana
seeds, an ingredient in some energy drinks.
The caffeine content of coffee beans varies according to the species of the coffee plant. Beans from
Coffea arabica, grown mostly in Central and South America, contain about 1.1 per cent caffeine.

Beans from Coffea robusta, grown mostly in Indonesia and Africa, contain about 2.2 per cent
caffeine.
