1.1. INTRODUCTION
The LisaScan EM is an 8-channel Micro well plate reader for Quantitative,
Qualitative and Semi Quantitative (mixture of both) determination of wide range of
analytes in body fluids.
Unique features of the analyzer are:
It is a 96 well micro plate reader with a large built-in graphic LCD display
and Thermal Printer.
Operation is through a non-tactile keyboard with quick shift from one
function to another without going through complex sequential operations.
It is provided with memory of 100 programmable tests and 480 well’s (5
plates) results.
The analyzer is provided with a 320x240 dots backlight liquid crystal display
with alphanumeric and graphic capabilities.
User can take a Printout of Collated Report by Date wise or ID wise or both
by Date & ID wise or Test wise or Plate ID wise or by both Plate ID & Date
wise and ID wise with Demographic.
The software is complete with the device diagnostics self-test function capable of
providing timely flag / error messages related to Test results or analyzer

2. SAFETY
This section provides safety information about analyzer. Use this product properly
and safely to prevent injuries and or damage to property. User must read these
safety precautions before installation/use and follow the directions.
Only qualified personnel should use the analyzer.
While operating, maintaining, servicing or repairing the analyzer, follow all
the procedures described in this manual.
Always ensure that mains switch is OFF while connecting or removing or
servicing the analyzer.
Observe all WARNINGS and CAUTIONS posted on the system or
described in this manual.
Avoid contact with all electrical circuits of analyzer; observe CAUTIONS
posted on the analyzer.
Never use substitute parts on the analyzer or modify it in any way.
Keep the analyzer out of the rain and any other water splash. Pay attention
to inclination, vibration, shock etc.
During the operation photometric lamp becomes extremely hot. DO NOT
look directly into the light path of the lamp when it is ON. DO NOT touch the
lamp when it is ON.
If the lamp needs to be changed, always switch off the lamp by switching off
the analyzer and then wait for minimum 10-minutes, until lamp has cooled
down.
Avoid using dangerous flammable material around the analyzer. Fire or
explosion may be caused by ignition.
Avoid areas that are adversely affected by atmospheric pressure,
temperature, humidity, ventilation, sunlight, dust and air containing salt,
sulfur, etc.
Operator is responsible for taking all necessary precautions against hazards
associated with the use of clinical laboratory chemicals. Specific
recommendations for each reagent used with the analyzer are normally
found on the manufacturer’s package inserts or on product information
sheets for each chemical. Wipe up any reagent spillage on the analyzer
immediately.
Pay attention not to exceed time and volume necessary for diagnosis. Keep
monitoring the behavior of whole system in order to detect any malfunction.
Take immediate corrective measures including shutdown of operation when
any malfunction is detected in the analyzer.

entering a number seen on the key and up to three
alphabets in upper and lower case .E.g. The numeric key
<1> is used to enter/select an alphabet or the number in
the following sequence 1, A, B, C, a, b, c following each
press.
Decimal point is used to enter the concentration and

5. BLOCK DIAGRAM
The major blocks of the analyzer consist of Main board, thermal printer,
photometer, Keypad, liquid crystal display (LCD) and DB9 serial connector for PC
communication. Keypad and thermal printer is interfaced to main board using a
junction PCB. There are two stepper motors; one is for Filter wheel (Unidirectional)
& other one for Tray (Bidirectional) Movement. Three OPTO each for Filter wheel,
Tray Home & Tray interfaced to main board using a junction PCB.
The LCD is a 320x240 dots backlight display with alphanumeric and graphic
capabilities with backlight feature which enables the user to read in case of less
ambient light. This is most sensitive device to get damaged, which require careful
handling.
DB9 serial connector is to transmit data/Result from Analyzer to PC. It is Serial to
USB convertor.
Photometer is a device to measure the intensity or power of a beam of light. Light
from the lamp passes through the sample kept in the flowcell. Some amount of
light is absorbed by the sample while the rest is transmitted. The photometer
measures this transmitted light and provides the digital measurement to the
microcontroller. Based on this, the microcontroller performs set of calculation to

derive the result. The analyzer can serve 4 different filters (wavelengths), with the
option of adding 2 more additional filters.
Main board as the name suggests is the heart of the analyzer, which controls all
the hardware/software functions of the analyzer. Refer the details of main board in
chapter 6.

e. Observe the Light circles through Fiber Optics using butter/tracing
paper. Observation should be at the height of Detector PCB Mount.
Transmission Lens should be considered as a reference for further
alignment of plate and Detector Lens.
f. All circles should be of same diameter & same intensity.
g. There should not be dark spots in the circle or any other light spots
around the circle. Make it dust free or any finger impression free by
cleaning the lens with lint free cloth.
h. Now go to plate movement in step mode. Keep the plate at poison no 1.
i. Center of Light circle & center of well should match. If it does not match
Do the tray OPTO adjustment & bring light circle at the center of well.
j. Now check for all other 11 positions.
k. Ensure light circle should not be greater than well’s bottom diameter.
l. Prepare plate with 200µl water in all 96 wells and repeat steps 9, 10 and
11 to confirm proper fitting of Lamp, Mirror, Heat Filter, Filter wheel
Assembly & Fiber Optics.
m. Fix the Detector Lens Holder and check the beam diameter w.r.t
transmission lens with help of butter/tracing paper. If optical beam is not
in line with circles of butter/tracing paper, align the detector lens holder
to make the optical beam in axis w.r.t to transmission lens. Ensure that
the photodiodes are dust free or any finger impression free by cleaning
the photodiodes with lint free cloth. Now fit the Photometer PCB and
Photometer cover.
