CURRENT STATUS OF PROJECT:

The state government has been allotted a grant of Rs215 crore for training of police
officials and commandos. "Out of Rs215 crore, Rs46 crore has been sanctioned for the
commando training centre," Mall added. The other funds will be used to upgrade training in
police academies across the state.

The centre will be headed by a deputy inspector general of police grade officer and three
posts of superintendent of police have also been created to take care of it. "Some of these
posts have already been sanctioned by the government, while the others are yet to be cleared
by the home department," Mall informed.

The Karai Police Academy has so far trained 347 commandos. Two batches of 154 and 193
commandos, each, have already passed out while a batch of 83 commandos is still under
training.

A team of commandos from the GPA had recently stood fourth at the 'All India Police
Commando Competition-2011' held at Tikanpur in Madhya Pradesh. Commandos from the
Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and police force of
different states had taken part in the competition
