What distinguishes these teachers is the commitment they show to the teaching. They
have used the programmes as their framework. They have taught at a pace, but kept
each stage within the grasp of the children. They fully deserve the appreciation parents
give them.
As authors and publisher, we have always seen ourselves in partnership with teachers,
providing both structure and flexibility, looking to teachers for creativity. Together this
enables us all to deliver for the next generation.

Teaching with Jolly Phonics begins with
learning the 42 letter sounds.
Getting As the programme progresses, the other 4 key
skills are taught. Once children have learnt the
Started letter sounds and some tricky words they can
then begin to use the Jolly Phonics decodable

vowels can be written.
Teach
The Phonics Handbook is the place to start. Lesson
guides are provided for teaching the 5 skills and all
42 letter sounds, with each letter sound introduced
through a story and action. Suitable words are
provided for dictation and blending activities, and
photocopiable sheets enable the teacher to give
each child activities to reinforce the lesson.
The Finger Phonics Books come in 2 series: Big Books for the teacher to
use with the whole-class and board books which children can use on
their own.
The Jolly Phonics Word Book and Jolly Phonics Cards can be used for further
blending and dictation, while the Jolly Phonics Letter Sound Strips, which
can be handed to each child, provide a useful reminder of the letter sounds
and alternative spellings of the vowels.
