    Explain “Without a free and independent media, true democracy is unattainable" by

    Warren Christopher.

    When we hear the word democracy, rule by the people is one of idea that may come into

    your mind. Also the word democracy is connected to freedom which cannot be described in

    simple words, because the word itself contains numerous deeper meanings. And for me the

    meaning of this is depends on the individual’s understanding, and each of us understands it in

    different ways. But how can I explain the quotation “Without a free and independent media, true

    democracy is unattainable" by Warren Christopher? Based on my understanding independent

    media is free of influence by the government, it is true democracy is unattainable because the

    media including televisions presents news about different issues happened here in our country.

    If the independent media doesn’t exist we don’t know what really happen here in the Philippines

    as well as in different countries. Maybe we cannot have the freedom to know things happen

    under the sun and also we cannot rule and get what we want as a member in society. So an

    independent media plays an important role in our everyday lives. It can update us and gives us

    information for our own sake. That’s why Warren Christopher quoted that for us to understand

    the connection between democracy and media.
