    Why is teamwork important?

    In order to truly understand the word teamwork in the engineering process, we must first
    separate this compound word into two parts “team” and “work”. One will see when the
    words are combined forms the framework of how engineering projects get completed.
    At the beginning of any project, the architect and the owner forms a team for the
    purpose of determining the overall understanding and function required by the owner of
    the project. The architect assists the owner by developing conceptual plans and
    concepts, which allows the visualization of the goals and objectives of the project.
    In order to transform the conceptual plans into construction plans, the architect partners
    with the correct team of design professionals. There are multiple engineering
    disciplines such as civil, mechanical, and electrical that are needed to perform each
    unique part of the design from preliminary plans to final design documents. Upon
    completion of the construction drawings, the contractor compiles a team of workers and
    equipment capable of transforming the design drawings into finished projects.
    Once the highly qualified team is put together, the work effort can begin. The ACE
    mentors always emphasizes that any great project starts with excessive planning and
    proper execution. The work elements of the design process are the scope, schedule,
    budget, and quality of the work.
    Therefore, it is not a coincidence that teamwork is a compound word in the architect,
    engineer, and contractor world. One cannot have the words separated because
    teamwork is the underlining factor of any successful project.
