I will always
ask for others to stay calm during times like these for it won’t do us any good
if we keep on acting based on our emotions and not being able to think
rationally. Second is road accidents. The most common road accident
nowadays are motorcycle accidents. I will always remind every person riding
a motorcycle without any helmet on to use a helmet for their lives are at
stake and I believe that life is too precious to waste on accidents. Third,
since there is a water scarcity now in the Philippines, I will help by
minimizing my consumption in water daily so that there would be left to use
in the future months before the government declares the rainy season.
2. Empowerment and participation are two of the most valuable tools being
used by community development and social work practitioners in achieving
development. They are inseparably linked, they are different but they
depend on each other to give meaning and purpose. Participation represents
action, or being part of an action such as a decision-making process.
Empowerment represents sharing control, the entitlement and the ability to
participate, to influence decisions, as on the allocation of resources. Both of
these tools are complementary as there would be no participation without
empowerment and vice versa. Power is considered to be the force that is
behind empowerment. Without the concept of power, empowerment would
not emerge. Power has its own set of definitions, sources, forms and kinds
which can be used for the welfare of the people in the society.
3. According to designingbuildings.co.uk., development management is the
process of pro-actively managing development in a local area to achieve the
local planning vision and objectives. I am going to apply development
management in my community by applying management principles and
practices to the context of social development.
4. Community members should learn how to participate so they can take
part in improving their communities and take actions toward these
improvements. We should do collective reflection, social participation, and
political discussions, as well as outcomes such as having obtained adequate
resources for improving community well-being and social justice. Collective
reflection means that community members get together and jointly examine
the issues that have mattered to them over time. Social participation and
political discussions are ways in which these communities can take the
actions needed to empower themselves.
5. 1. Volunteering connects you to others
2. It is good for our mind and body
3. It brings fun and fulfillment to your life
6.
1. Use volunteer time as an opportunity to explore career options, gain
training and professional development. Volunteering is a great way to
experience first-hand what a potential position in a particular career field
could be like.
2. Think outside the box! Research the causes or issues that are important to
you. Look for a group that deals with issues about which you feel strongly.
3. Utilize your skills. Whatever you are good at – computers, working with
youth, environmental work – can be put to good use with nonprofits and local
agencies. Similarly, you may want to think about your specific personality
and how your organization skills or communication style might fit with
different organizations or activities.
4. Commit to a project, but don’t over-commit yourself. Make sure you come
through as a dependable volunteer. Find the volunteer activity that fits your
schedule.
5. Meet new people! Volunteering provides a great atmosphere to meet
people with similar interests.
6. Ask your friends to help. Studies show that the number one reason that
people volunteer is because they were asked. So go ask someone to
volunteer with you and make a difference together.
7. Serve with your campus clubs, fraternities, sororities, community groups,
dorm-mates, or church. If there is nothing planned yet, it may be fun to
organize an activity or fundraiser together.
