Answer: D

Grade 9 Level (Average)

7.) Find the equation of a line that passes through the point (-2,3) and has a slope of 3.
 The slope is already given; m = 3. In this situation, we can use the Linear Equation: y =
mx + b.
 y = mx + b
 With point (-2,3) and m = 3, we get:
 3 = (3)(-2) + b
 Then solve:
 3 = -6 + b
 9=b
 With this, the equation of the line is y = 3x + 9

Answer: y = 3x + 9

8.) Triangle ABC is a right triangle at B. If m∠C = 45°, find the area of the triangle.
 Look at the figure at the left. Notice that the trianglem is a 45-45-90 Triangle. With this
we can solve the sides by using Pythagorean Theorem or, 1x-1x- x √2 sides of the
triangle.
 s^2 + s^2 = 10^2
 2s^2 = 100
 s^2 = 50
 s = 5√ 2
 Now, that we know the sides of the triangle, which is 5 √ 2 (they’re both equal), we can
use the formula to find the area of the triangle.

9.) x + 10, 4x + 5 and 5x + 13 turns out to be an Arithmetic Sequence. Find the numbers and
their common difference.
 In Arithmetic Sequence, we knew that SECOND TERM – FIRST TERM is equals to
THIRD TERM – SECOND TERM. We can use this pattern to solve for x. With these
information, we get:
 4x + 5 – (x + 10) = 5x + 13 – (4x + 5)
 4x + 5 – x – 10 = 5x + 13 – 4x – 5
 3x – 5 = x + 8
 2x = 13
 x = 13/2
 Then, substitute the value of x.
 (13/2) + 10 = 33/2 or 16.5
 4(13/2) + 5 = 31
 5(13/2) + 13 = 91/2 or 45.5
 Determine the common difference
 31 – 16.5 = 14.5
 45.5 – 31 = 14.5
 In coclusion, the numbers are 33/2 or 16.5, 31, 91/2 or 45.5, and their common difference
is 14.5.

 We know from the question that DE is the half of AB and EF is the half of BC. From
these, DF must be the half of AC beacuse the scale factor is ½ (of the bigger side).
 We can prove this by side/side then cross – multiplying:
 AB/BC = DE/EF -> 10/7 = 5/3.5 -> 35 = 35
 We can use this to find DF.
 AC/CB = DF/FE

0.
 We know that the roots of the equation x^2 + 6x + 9 = 0 is x = -3 and -3.
 “Half of the roots of the equation x^2 + 6x + 9 = 0”, meaning that we should multiply the
roots of the equation by ½.
 x = -3/2 and -3/2
 From these roots, we can get the equation being asked.
 x = -3/2, x = -3/2
 2x = -3. 2x = -3
 2x + 3 = 0, 2x + 3 = 0
 (2x + 3)(2x + 3) = 0
 (2x + 3)^2 = 0
 4x^2 + 12x + 9 = 0
 Therefore, the equation whose roots are half of the roots of the equation x^2 + 6x + 9 = 0
is 4x^2 + 12x + 9 = 0.

Answer: 4x^2 + 12x + 9 = 0

15.) Triangle ABC is a right triangle at C. If ∠A = 63° and a = 11 cm, find ∠B, b and

a x 2+ bx+ c=0

Answer: (Source: https://www.basic-mathematics.com/proof-of-the-quadratic-formula.html)

Divide both sides of the equation by a so you can complete the square

Subtract c/a from both sides

Complete the square:

The coefficient of the second term is b/a

Divide this coefficient by 2 and square the result to get (b/2a)2

Add (b/2a)2 to both sides:

Made by: Jose Miguel Lopez

Welcome to our 1st Quiz in Mathematics for Preparation for UPCAT

Since the left side of the equation right above is a perfect square, you can factor the left side
by using the coefficient of the first term (x) and the base of the last term(b/2a)

Add these two and raise everything to the second.

Get the same denominator on the right side:

Now, take the square root of each side:

Simplify the left side:

Rewrite the right side:

18.) Tomoya’s family is like a one big “Dango” family. Tomoya is the husband of
Nagisa, and their daughter is Ushio. Tomoya is older than Nagisa by 13 years, and his
wife is older than his daughter by 11 years. In 6 years, Tomoya’s age will be 4 times as
the original age of his daughter. Find the sum of their ages now and after 6 years.
 Notice that the question gives the clue to know the ages of Tomoya’s family.

Now (Original) After 6 years

Tomoya x x+6
Nagisa x – 13 x–7
Ushio x – 24 x - 18
 “In 6 years, Tomoya’s age will be 4 times as the original age of his daughter.”
 x + 6 = 4(x – 24)
 x + 6 = 4x – 96
 -3x = - 102
 x = 34
 Then substitute the value of x to the ages of Tomoya, Nagisa, Ushio.
 Now (Original):
 Tomoya = 34 years old
 Nagisa = (34 – 13) years old = 21 years old
 Ushio = (34 – 24) old = 10 years old
 After 6 years:
 Tomoya = 34 + 6 = 40 years
 Nagisa = 21 + 6 = 27 years
 Ushio = 10 + 6 = 16 years
 Sum of their ages:
 Now:
 34 + 21 + 10 = 65
 After 6 years:
 40 + 27 + 16 = 83

Answer: Now – 65, After 6 years – 83

question stated that “A McDo meal and a McDo Burger costs 270 pesos, and 9 McDo
Meals and 8 McDo Burger cost 2,365 pesos. Find the cost of 2 McDo Meals and 5 McDo
Burgers”. He found that the question given has 4 stars on it, indicating that the question is
difficult to solve. Now, as a friend of his, you will solve the problem. Answer the Math
exam question.
 Let x be the McDo meal and y be the McDo Burger.
 “A McDo meal and a McDo Burger costs 270 pesos.”
 x + y = 270 (eq. 1)
 “9 McDo Meals and 8 McDo Burger cost 2,365 pesos.”
 9x + 8y = 2,365 (eq. 2)
 Process of elimination:
 x + y = 270 : 9x + 8y = 2,365
 -8[x + y = 270] : 9x + 8y = 2,365
 -8x – 8y = -2160 : 9x + 8y = 2,365
 Add the two equation. Then, we get:
 x = 2,365 – 2160
 x = 205 (1 McDo Meal cost 205 pesos)
 Substitute to any equation you prefer.
 205 + y = 270
 y = 270 – 205
 y = 65 (1 McDo Burger cost 65 pesos)
 “Find the cost of 2 McDo Meals and 5 McDo Burgers”

 “The product of 2 consecutive odd integers is 195.”
 x(x + 2) = 195
 x^2 + 2x – 195 = 0
 By factoring:
 (x + 15)(x – 13) = 0
 x = - 15 and 13
 In this case, there are two answers. Substitute –15 to the representations, and also 13 in
the representations. So, the answers are 13 and 15, and -13 and -15.

Answer: 13 and 15, and -13 and -15

16.) Area of the Rectangle ABDF (1 pt.)

 = 6(5x + 7) cm^2
 = 30x + 42 cm^2

Answer: 30x + 42 cm^2

17.) Area of Triangle BIC (1 pt.)

 Triangle BIC is a special triangle with 45 - 45 – 90 angles.
 We knew that BC = 3 cm because BC = AG, which AG is also 3 cm.
 Also BC = IC because 2 sides of the triangle with 45 - 45 – 90 angles are equal.
 With these, we can now solve the area of the triangle BIC. BC is the height, and IC is the
base of the triangle.
 Area = (bh)/2
 Area = (3 • 3)/2
 Area = 9/2
 Therefore, the area of the Triangle BIC is 9/2 cm^2 or 4.5 cm^2.

Answer: 9/2 cm^2 or 4.5 cm^2

18.) ∠ AHE (.5 pt) and ∠ GEF (.5 pt)

 For ∠ AHE:
 We know that ∠AHG = 32° because Triangle AHG is a right triangle. Since the other
angle (besides 90°) is already given, which is 58°, the other angle is its complement
(since the other angle is 90°).
 We also know that angle ∠GHE = 55° because the Triangle GHE is an isoscles triangle.
∠E is 70°, and the other 2 angles is equal. With these, we can right the equation: 2x + 70
= 180. Solve the equation and we will arrive at the answer of 55°.
 ∠AHE = ∠AHG + ∠GHE = 32° + 55° = 87°

Answer: ∠AHE = 32° + 55° = 87°

 For ∠ GEF:
 We all know that straight angle = 180°
 ∠GEF, ∠GEH, and ∠HED forms a straight angle. ∠GEH = 70° and ∠HED = 40°. Let
∠GEF be x.
 x + 70 + 40 = 180
 x + 110 = 180
 x = 70°
 Therefore, ∠GEF = 70°

Answer: ∠GEF = 70°

19.) Area of Triangle ADF (1 pt.)

 The area of the triangle is only half of the whole Rectangle ABDF. Imaginary Line AD is
the Area Bisector of Rectangle ABDF (but it doesn’t bisect its angle.)
 The Area of the Rectangle ABDF is 30x + 42 cm^2 (see No. 16, Grade 11 Hard). We just
divide it by 2 to find its area.
 [(30x + 42)/2] cm^2 = 15x + 21 cm^2
 So, the area of Triangle ADF is 15x + 21 cm^2

Answer: 15x + 21 cm^2

20.) Area of Rectangle GCDF (1 pt.)

 3(5x + 7)
 =15x + 21
 The area of Rectangle GCDF is 15x + 21 cm^2

Answer: 15x + 21 cm^2

Bonus Question Answers:

1.) Yes. (see No. 19 and 20, Grade 11 Level Hard).

2.) Rene Descartes
3.) Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent (CPCTC).
4.) Yes. Since Equilateral Triangles have 3 equal sides, its interior angles are equal too,
which is 60°. Having all 3 60 degree angles in a triangle makes a Equiangular Triangle.
Therefore, Equilateral Triangles are Equiangular Triangles, and vice versa.
