    SCIENCE QUIZ BEE

    1. The contest shall follow the “chalk & board” method during the entire quiz proper. The materials will be provided by
    each team.

    2. Each team is made up of three (3) members and one (1) substitute member (no gender preference). Each team will be
    accompanied by a designated facilitator to confirm whether or not the team got the correct answer.

    3. Each question will be read twice (2). After the second reading, the quiz master shall signal “GO”. This is the only time
    when the timer starts counting down. The time allotted for each respective question is listed below:
    Round Time allotment (sec)
    Easy 10
    Average 20
    Difficult 30
    Clincher 15

    4. Each team may start discussing the answer to a particular question even if the quiz master is not yet done on reading
    it. However, all teams must raise the board with their answer as soon as the “TIME’S UP” is said by the quiz master.

    5. The quiz master shall reveal the correct answer after all the teams raised their boards containing the official answers.
    Only the team/s with the correct answer will be mentioned by the quiz master. The following will be considered as
    incorrect answers if the:
    a) answer is not written on its simplest form.
    b) correct answer is written with the wrong unit.
    c) answer is misspelled.
    d) answer is illegibly written.
    e) failure of the team to raise the board with answers at the given time.

    6. The questions for the entire quiz is divided into three rounds: Easy, Average and Difficult. Each round is made up of
    five (5) questions. If available, the questions will be flashed in a screen while the quiz master is reading it. Before reading
    the question, the quiz master will announce the type of question (round) & the category where it belongs.
    The categories are:
    a) Fundamentals of Biological Sciences;
    b) General Chemistry:
    c) General Physics:
    d) Food Science & Nutrition.

    7. Answer to the questions will be scored on the following manner:


    Round Score
    Easy 3
    Average 6
    Difficult 9

    8. Only the teacher-in-charge of the team is allowed to contest and/or protest the current question, verify and/or appeal
    the answer of the team after the answer is revealed by the quiz master and before reading the next question. After the
    said conditions, verification or protest to the contested question or answer won’t be honored anymore.

    9. The official decision of the head of the board of judges is final & irrevocable. In case that only a member of the board
    of judges addressed the query, the statement will be made official only after the head of the board of judges
    acknowledges what his/her member said.

    10. The scores of the team will be announced by the quiz master at the end of the quiz bee. Only the scores officially
    tallied by the board of judges shall be used as basis for reading and/or announcing the official scores of each team.

    11. The team which will accumulate the highest number of points will be declared the Champion, followed by the First
    and Second Runner Up respectively.

    12. Clincher question/s will be given in case there is a tie between teams. The team who correctly answers first wins.
