Phonics Feedback

This document is an observation feedback form for a trainee teacher named Shaikha. The observer, Ms. Sarah-Jane Pattison, rated and provided comments on Shaikha's performance based on several teaching competencies. Overall, Shaikha performed well in having her resources prepared and setting a clear objective, but her activities could have been more imaginative. Shaikha controlled the class well but needed to provide more examples and interaction to check student understanding. There is room for Shaikha to improve her activity planning and make them more hands-on.

Course Code:
Trainee Name: Shaikha School: Ajman Academy
MCT/MST Name: Ms Sarah-Jane Pattison Date:
The MCT and MST will use this form to formally observe the trainee’s performance and to give feedback
based on the selected teaching competencies.
NOTE: Refer to the course-specific, teaching competencies-based rubric included in section D of the TP Booklet

Commitment to the Profession F D C B A

Comments:
Shaikha had her resources prepared and had a clear objective for the Phonics
lesson she did. The set sounds v and y were revised well verbally and Shaikha
used the RWI strategies
Planning for Learning F D C B A
Comments:
Shaikha’s planning for this activity was good, however the activities themselves were a little boring and
could have been more imaginative and interactive for children. The children did the activities very
quickly and I am not sure how much they truly linked to the phonic sounds.

Managing Learning F D C B A
Comments:
During this lesson Shaikha was able to control the children on the carpet and had a good rapport with
the children – getting them to repeat the sounds well.
Implementing Learning F D C B A
Comments:
She implemented the phonics activities well, however when describing what to do for the activities
Shaikha could have benefited from having an example already done for the children to have a reference,
or she could have sat down and shown the children. Once again there was not much interaction with the
children so learning was not gauged verbally by Shaikha

Assessment F D C B A
Comments:
Shaikha did do a reflection of the sounds to see who understood them.
Reflection on Practice F D C B A
Comments:
In general, Shaikha’s teaching practise is good however there is room for improvement in some areas as
mentioned above. Shaikha needs to ‘stretch’ herself when it comes to creating activities and try and
research activities that are more hands on and related to inquiry as her activities were quite mundane
and worksheet based
