Critique by: Rhom Lloyd Oduyan

Introduction

The Gulliver's travels was first released on December 25, 2010. It is a fantasy comedy movie,

starring Jack Black, that was meant to entertain it’s audience on christmas day. The movie was

directed by Robert Letterman, an American film director known for his works like Monster vs

Aliens, Shark Tale, and Goosebumps. With Jack Black having the leading role , the movie had

succeed in portraying it’s humorous content. The advancement of technologies have also helped

the movie to improve its visual effects. Making Jack Black 12 times bigger than lilliputians and

blefuscians, the whirlpool, and the bouncing of balls in Gulliver’s belly was really good. The

effects was good and made the movie feels like it’s real. The movie didn’t follow the story of the

novel which was written by Jonathan Swift. This may disappoint the audience that have red the

novel and they will not be satisfied with the film because there are characters and places that were

not included in the film.

their god, warrior, savior and protector. In lilliput, Gulliver has people looking up to him.
Critical Evaluation

The film Gulliver’s travels failed to portray the characters on the novel written by Jonathan Swift.

There are missing places, stories, and characters in the film. The horse people and the yahoos were

not mentioned in the film. Because of this, the film also failed to show the message that the author

of the novel wants to tell. However, the director of the film was able to show life lessons like

believing in yourself and being honest about yourself.

The movie was rated PG because of the rude humors and mild language that were used in the film.

The film was able to entertain the old and the kids. The film wasn’t really exciting to watch. The

story of the film was really boring. But because of the visual effects of the movie, the film was fun

enough to entertain it’s audience on Christmas day.
