Release of NUMARIS/3 VB31D 0

Purpose 0

To update all MAGNETOM systems to software NUMARIS/3 VB31D.

Effective July 3rd, 1998, this software version is released for all MAGNETOM Open, Open
viva, Impact, Expert and Vision systems including their plus-variants.
This update was developed to correct problems regarding DICOM transfers and
decreased image quality viewed via the MAXICAM VCR output. Trouble Reset has been
improved, too.
Since DICOM is not used for image transfers at all sites and also the MAXICAM VCR out-
put is not used very often the 3VB31D needs to be installed just as required!

Deinstalling NUMARIS/3 VB31D 0

Since it is not absolutely clear that the 3VB31D (especially the DICOM - implementation)
will satisfy every customer also a deinstallation procedure is provided with the CD-ROM.
Furthermore, the 3VB31D needs to be deinstalled temporarily for performing host
upgrades.

To deinstall the 3VB31D insert the 3VB31D-CDROM in to the drive and proceed as fol-
lows:

Host upgrade (Turbosparc) 0

For host upgrades the 3VB31D needs to be deinstalled temporarily according "Deinstall-
ing NUMARIS/3 VB31D".
Perform the host upgrade according the appropriate hardware upgrade documents and
the chapter "Installing the 3VB31C software patch" of the software manual.
Install the 3VB31D again after checking the system for proper function under 3VB31C
with the new host.
Draw a new dynamical safe set.

A MIP-series transfered to the Prominence will get the name of the original series MIP has
been performed with. An image containing graphics will not be transfered correctly. In the
resulting image multiple interfering images of the original MR-image are superimposed by
horizontal patterns.
At the Prominence some tranfered data are not displayed in general, respectively cannot
be found in any platform. Missing are among others:
Weight, Maiden Name, Ref. Phys., Adm. Diagn., Comments, Pat. Pos, View Dir., all data
from Patient Extension, Reg. Date.

Study names are transfered incorrectly (e.g. with MIP, StuModify, Dyn.Anal.). The name of
the original study is used instead.

DICOM- Transfer 3VB1D->35VA11A

Studies with the same ’patient move time’ can be processed at the ’source system’ with-
out problems, that means the slice graphics is displayed without any warnings. At the des-
tination system , however, a warning regarding ’wrong patient move time’ comes up. The
warning needs to be acknowledged before the slice graphics is displayed.
This warning also comes up if the Scout is out of the selected study (e.g. display a Scout
and select the same Scout-Seq. for Stu/Dis).
An analog problem occurs when patient images, measured at a 35VA11A system, are
sent to a 3VB31D system and back to the 35VA11A system again.

With DICOM- transfers the time stamp entry in the data base differs by one hour.
This affects some functions how they display data, e. g. the browser (register-, image-
date), the viewer (register-, image-date) and study display (Warning: Image has a different
patient move time from localizer).
Possibly this applies also for other functions accessing the time stamp entry in the data
base.

DICOM-Transfer
The function Patient/Modify does NOT create unique DICOM-UIDs. Some of the created
UIDs are identical to those of the former patient. A possible result of this problem could be
this: All patient images are sent from the source to a destination system; at the destination
system name, weight and comment are modified (e.g.) and the images sent back to the
source system again. This way a new patient is created at the source system.
If, however, just the comment of one image is modified at the destination system and all
images are sent back to the source system, there the images of all studies are duplicated.

DICOM-Transfer 3B31D <--> Prominence

Study/Display does not work anymore, if patient images measured with 3VB31D are sent
to a Prominence and back to the source again.
Error message: ’unable to decode arguments’!
