I’m writing in reference to Kyleigh Phariss who I have supervised in my role as Head of School at Ruamrudee
International School over the last two years and has been at the school for the last four years. While I’m not directly
responsible for Kyleigh’s formal evaluations I have visited her classroom many times and been more directly
involved in her role as a Head of Department for our pre-kindergarten program where she has built a collaborative
and students centered approach for her team.
Kyleigh is an exemplary member of our team and naturally stepped into a leadership role. As a relatively new
program she has helped bring stability and reliability to an area of our school where we have anxious parents,
active students and an ever evolving curriculum based on students’ needs and interests. She communicates
wonderfully with parents to ensure they know what is happening both as a class and for individual
students/parents. This includes daily reports through our technology tools or after class interactions and much
more detailed profiles of learning and development presented to parents throughout the year.
Our Reggio Emilia approach supports Kyleigh’s efforts to empower the curiosity and natural learning exhibited by
students. She has directed the clarity of our vision of this approach through her own teaching, through her support
and development of other teachers and by attending extensive professional developments to support both of those
efforts. As we adjusted our curriculum review schedule to include the pre-kindergarten program Kyleigh embraced
the process to bring appropriate resources and other support to strengthen the program for the future.
I have visited Kyleigh’s class a number of times to read with students and love watching her gently direct students’
to other learning as I finish up my time with them. With a calm demeanor she transitions into a routine of reviewing
choices for the day and then helping each child make independent decisions about their learning explorations. She
creates a classroom of diverse choice within clearly planned structures and environments. Students have an
abundance of choice to explore and work freely within the many experiences created with care and intention for
learning purposes.
Outside of her essential work in the classroom Kyleigh has contributed to the school in our athletics program with
olders students and sits on our school-wide instructional leadership team. It’s wonderful to see how she transfers
the early childhood approaches she has mastered in appropriate ways to the consideration of all students in PK-12
school. I highly recommend her as a caring, responsible and collaborative professional. If you have any questions I
can answer that may help in consideration of a role for her in your community please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Daniel Smith
